By now, everyone in the entire world heard about a New York federal jury’s award of $83 million dollars to E. Jean Carroll against Donald J. Trump for what she claims was a sexual assault in a Bergdorf’s dressing room. The verdict itself consists of $18.3 million dollars in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive damages. What virtually no one reports is these damage awards are grossly excessive. The overwhelming likelihood is Donald Trump won’t have to pay anywhere near this amount of money, even if his efforts to reverse the verdict altogether fail. Let’s take a closer look at the reasons why.

In 1925, John Scopes was put on trial for teaching evolution. He lost. It was called the trial of the century and captured the nation’s attention. For Americans, assaults on free speech are intolerable. Speech is the lifeblood of freedom. It is the hill we will die on because, instinctively, we know that without it, it would also mean death. At least, we used to know.
Last week, the 21st century’s trial of the century came to a similarly ignoble end, but nearly without coverage, without interest, without outrage. Polymath Mark Steyn, appearing pro se, lost a defamation suit (ironically) defending against Michael Mann

The global and domestic landscape is one of turmoil and indecision. Everywhere one looks there is chaos and potential disaster, whether in the financial, economic, political, or military sphere. Since the beginning of the post-World War II era there has been one constant that has been the stabilizing force in the world: the stature, power, and influence of the United States. The twelve years of Barack Obama and his ventriloquist dummy, Joe Biden, have overwhelmingly eroded America and dramatically accelerated the demise of western civilization.

New York, New York – A manhunt is underway for a teenage migrant shoplifter from Colombia who shot and gravely wounded a tourist before aiming at law enforcement.
ABC News reported that at around 7:15 P.M. Thursday, three individuals entered JD Sports and started stealing items on the second floor. Two of the three suspects, including a teen who lives at a nearby migrant shelter, were later confronted by a female security guard in the lobby.
Police say the security guard yanked a bag of stolen merchandise from one of the suspects who was wearing all white at the time.

In theory, or at least in cocktail lore, there’s still one last Japanese soldier in a cave somewhere who hasn’t heard that World War II is over—and, as the Emperor of Japan announced on the radio, that it was concluded “not entirely to Japan’s advantage.”
That last soldier may also be the only person who doesn’t realize that the various lawsuits filed against Donald Trump have nothing whatsoever to do with the stated substance of the suits but are designed and brought solely to interfere with the coming presidential election, which, polls currently tell us, Trump may win.

Wicked people.
The Biden regime is still using the FBI to round up, indict, harass, threaten, and ruin patriotic Americans who attended the Stop the Steal rally in Washington DC on January 6, 2021.
The Biden DOJ is now arresting Americans who stood outside the building, committed no crimes, but were standing in the unidentified “restricted ground” around the US Capitol that day. Thousands of Trump supporters gathered in this area by the US Capitol because there were several Stop the Steal protests planned in this area. The rally organizers all had permits for their events.

Thomas Lifson recently wrote about In-N-Out Burger and Denny’s fleeing Oakland, California. Crime became so constant and blatant it was too dangerous for employees and customers. At the In-N-Out, criminals were going from car to car in the drive-up lane, robbing customers as they waited for their orders. This kind of wanton, and unrestrained criminality isn’t limited to California. It’s everywhere Democrats/socialist/communists rule, places across the country like Boston:
Walgreens was accused of "racial discrimination" by a Democratic lawmaker in Massachusetts after the pharmacy giant closed another location in Boston.

It’s election season and the talking heads are all singing the “this will be the most important election of our lifetime” chorus -- for real this time. While this year’s election will certainly be important, I’d argue that 2008 was the most important election in our lifetime. That’s the year in which we were offered a fork in the road, and we chose the “fundamentally transform America” left turn. We’ve just been looking for the “transform it back” off-ramp ever since. However, I am willing to say that 2024 is likely to be the most dangerous election in our lifetime.

Iranian-backed militias have attacked American installations and forces in Syria, Iraq, and Jordan some 170 times.
Ostensibly, these terrorist groups claim they are hitting U.S. forces to coerce America into dropping its support of Israel and demanding a cease-fire in the Gaza war. In reality, these satellite terrorists are being directed in a larger effort by Iran to pry the U.S. out of the Middle East, in the manner of the 1983 Marine barracks bombing.
That way, Iran will be free to fulfill its old dream of becoming a nuclear shield for a new Shiite/Persian terrorist axis

My guess is that Bob Seeger did not have migrants in mind when he recorded "Get Out Of Denver" but don't be surprised if the local Democrats make it their new song.
According to news reports, Denver is overwhelmed:
Colorado’s capital has joined the evergrowing list of cities that have become overwhelmed by the influx of migrants — with over 38,000 asylum seekers arriving in Denver in the past year.
The Mile-High City has struggled to accommodate the new arrivals who have inundated city shelters and hospitals, prompting state officials to enact a limit on how long migrants can stay in state-funded rooms starting Feb. 5.

The Academy Awards used to be a cultural phenomenon. The Oscars ceremony was the pinnacle of the entertainment world, with glamorous stars jockeying for statuettes. For generations, the most deserving actors, actresses, and films usually won — though not always, and I wrote a series a few years ago about the most undeserving winners. What is it about the Oscars that has traditionally captivated America? It’s largely because Hollywood has dominated the cultural landscape for so long.

As the NFL bread and circuses brigade marches blindly toward Super Bowl Sunday, the league finally tipped its hand when it streamed one of its wildcard playoff games between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins. Perhaps you were one of the 23 million who flew over that paywall by subscribing to Peacock for the privilege.
Welcome to the future of NFL broadcasting, as network television will soon be washed away by the stream. As cable continues to bleed subscribers, streaming will fill the gap. Perhaps lost on the scramble for the almighty dollar is how the NFL’s success
