A California lawmaker has proposed an ambitious plan to raise the minimum wage to $50 per hour. Democratic Representative Barbara Lee argued that, due to the affordability crisis in the San Francisco Bay Area, a family of four needs at least $127,000 to survive. Lee's proposal means that minimum wage workers would earn more than $100,000 per year. She made these comments while debating with Reps Adam Schiff (D-CA), Katie Porter (D-CA) and Republican Steve Garvey. Schiff and Porter have both called for the minimum wage to be increased to at least $20 an hour. However, Garvey has resisted raising

I have worked for a few BIG businesses, and started and run several smaller ones.
When discussing earning potential with an employee I planned to keep I always tell them..."I expect you to make me as much as I pay you, Not dollar for dollar, that would be merely breaking even, I expect you to EARN me as much in Profit as what I pay you, IE: Double your Pay.
If you want to double what you currently Make? Make ME twice as much, and I'll gladly do it.
My stepmothers third Husband quit his job as a bank VP...went to work at a Mcdonalds.
Because at that time the only way to qualify for a McDonald's franchise was to 1st work at one...he jumped through those hoops, became an "Owner", eventually owned 12 McDonalds and another 10 similar franchise restaurants. "Earned" $Millions/year, left his kids a dynasty.

Proposals like this confirm my observation that Democrats are born without the Math gene. Vote accordingly.

The proposal would also dictate that there be no unintended consequences, like prices for all services being doubled and tens of thousands of unskilled employees being laid off, or hundreds of thousands coming in to California looking for a $50/hour job and not finding it and ending up in the world's largest homeless encampment.

Let's cut to the chase. Everyone should just have the same amount of money. Anything else would be unfair.
And if we all have the same money then there's really no point to money.
So, let's just have everyone do whatever work they feel like and take from others whatever they want.
I'm sure that'll work out just great!

The reason there is an affordability crisis in the San Francisco area and the rest of California, is because stupid proposals like the $50 minimum wage become laws. Barbara Lee and the rest of the Democrat Senate candidates have all been in Washington DC for too long blindly spending other people's money to understand the consequences of a $minimum wage.

Just raise it to $1,000,000 an hour. That way, people can work two or three hours and retire. Of course, bread will cost $2,000 a loaf and gas will skyrocket to $10,000 a gallon, but who cares? They'll feel so good knowing they're 'helping' people.

Remember when they wanted the “top wage earners” to pay more in taxes? They defined top wage as $ X. Then a little while later, it was < $ X.
If these idiots in Calyfornia [sic] think $100k will buy that room with a view, wait til they pay taxes on their new-found wealth and end up where they are now. Or less.

Like pumping gas and self checkouts, soon we will be cooking and bagging our own Big Macs and fries. Funning thing, yesterday I saw an ad for Steve Garvey except at the end I find out it was paid for those against him. The ad listed all the reasons I will vote for him but was paid for the anti-democratic party types thinking they were all bad things.

This is just another way for the government to grab more money. That $100 an hour puts the worker at the 37% bracket for Federal taxes and depending on the state another 12%. Then of course everything else will quadruple in price and nobody has gained anything and the federales who will throw all their loot at pay increases for them and at the cause de jour

Newsom may have good hair but he is a moron when it comes to governing and politics. He should have been out there already denouncing this incredibly idiotic idea but his own schemes of reparations and free healthcare to everybody in the state who has a heartbeat means he would go along with this scheme as well to further kill his economy. No need to wonder why the U-Hauls keep loading up and leaving California. It's already dead.
