New reports shed light on nearly $1 billion in land purchases by a mysterious company near a California Air Force base that raised national security concerns. Since 2018, a group called “Flannery Associates” invested more than $800 million on almost 54,000 acres of agriculture-zoned land surrounding the Travis Air Force base in Solano County, California, public records show. [snip] Now, reports from The New York Times and San Francisco Chronicle reveal Flannery is comprised of a group of ultra-wealthy Silicon Valley investors acquiring vast parcels of land northeast of San Francisco with the mission to build a new California city “from scratch.”

It’s probably people who want to be close to Napa wine country. Lovely vineyards there and further North!
President Trump bought a lovely vineyard below Charlottesville VA,13,000 acres. Lovely tasting room and vineyards to visit. I seem to recall that Eric is in charge there.

I agree with OP. Why would tech industry giants develop a new city on three sides of an existing Air Force Base, and have to strong-arm existing farmers to sell their land? Since location is the key to all real estate deals and the tech industry is heavily tied to China, the obvious answer is it would make spying so much easier. Any objections by Solano County residents will be smothered, despite the required use of the state’s initiative system. If the Silicon Valley oligarchs want this project, they'll get the votes they need.
OP correctly points out what happened at NAS Los Alamitos. Eventually the same will happen with this new Chinese-Silcon Valley Cyber-Spy Planned Community of Tomorrow. By the time the second generation owners are living in the homes, the value of its spy location will be exhausted and the residents will put pressure on the military to close or restrict the use of the base. Who knows by then, we could all be Ukrainians!

If they make the same mistake of letting democrats run it, they are wasting their time. The people who will live there will be subjected to the full unrestricted power of military planes taking off at all hours, which will provide constant noise and complaints. Travis is the place from where I embarked across the Pacific on my first tour of duty. Fun times.

FTA: 'Now, reports from The New York Times and San Francisco Chronicle reveal Flannery is comprised of a group of ultra-wealthy Silicon Valley investors acquiring vast parcels of land northeast of San Francisco with the mission to build a new California city “from scratch.” ' So that's their story. I wonder, is there a penalty for being straw buyers for an enemy's military?

They will buy up the land around the base and then want it closed because of the noise.

Don't let them change the zoning. The land needs to be left to grow food by American farmers.

They will have major EIR reports and I'm sure some sort of bug, toad, or sage brush will be impacted that will affect the use of this land.
If they wanted to really put their money where they mouth (liberal progressive democrat votes) is, they should build a massive low-income housing enclave, which would also include a massive facility to treat the addicted persons in California.
Would certainly clean up the streets and provide opportunity for them to get help.

The government should confiscate all titles to land bought by foreigners, mainly the Chicoms, in the interest of national security.

Travis is refueling and cargo transport aircraft...plus it has a 250 bed hospital, 3 11,000ft heavy runways, and a shorter one for smaller craft. Bet they plan to have a "dual use" designation already in the hands of local Dem congresscritters, and eventual base closure as their "City" gets built up. Notice that they are incorporated in Delaware, for the Tax breaks from California high rates, and the "No disclosure" dark money benefits.
They had farmers that didn't want to sell...so they "Made them an offer they couldn't refuse" part of which was paying WAY more than market rates...and are now suing them to claw back that difference.
I'd like to see the calcs of just how MUCH money will be removed from SF/Silicon valley tax rolls, how many current offices/plants will be shuttered/sold/abandoned, how many millionms of construction costs will be coming from State/Federal grants and offsets.

Fairly typical ChiCom approach to taking over... Take up an adjacent position, then just sort of lean / push, en masse. Aggregate bulk can be as irresistible as gravity.
Harmonizes nicely with their approach of making islands in disputed waters and declaring ownership of surrounding waters. Sneaky bast'ds.

the intent is, to turn Travis into a "civilian" airport and make is accessible to only the “Flannery Associates” and subsidiaries ... nice move, if the Chicoms were not involved

I've read about this new city of fhe future they want to build there My question is this: once this new city is built, how will they keep out the homeless drug addicts and therir street tents? How long will it take for it to turn into just another California open-air sewer? Will they build a wall around it and screen people as they enter? Will it have a police force? A jail? Will it be diverse, equitable, and inclusive, and if so, will the screen people as they move there? "Sorry, we already have our quota of Peruvian ancestry residents."
If you're gonna build a New City, you better be prepared to deal with Americans who don't like to be controlled. Good luck with that.

Not unlike the way Disney bought up farmland in Florida to build its (in)famous parks. Seemingly separate companies buying out farmers and finally sold to Disney.

Okay, so it's officially not the ChiComs buying up the land. But what restrictions will there be on Chinese tech companies who may want to rent facilities to be built there? Besides, if you build a city around an air base it soon becomes forced to move operations elsewhere. Case in point: NAS Los Alamitos, which became choked by suburban encroachment to the point where only a few National Guard helos are now based there.
