Rioters have started fires and pelted cars with bricks in Brussels following Belgium's shock 2-0 loss to Morocco at the World Cup. Police had to seal off parts of the city centre, deployed water cannons and fired tear gas to disperse crowds as violence broke out following the match. [snip] The victory was celebrated by Moroccan immigrants in Belgium this afternoon, where more than 11.5 million people, including around 500,000 from Morocco, are of foreign origin.

Comments:

No, it wasn't Belgians, angry over their loss to the s-hole country of Morocco. It was "Belgians", celebrating the victory by torching the country that took them in when they emigrated from the s-hole country of Morocco. Similar celebrations in Rotterdam.

I see where the American "journalism" technique of using code words to describe violent offenders has been taken up by the Europeans. You know, all our "teens," and "youths" and "men" (as in "Chicago man", Atlanta man," etc.) who our journalists refuse to identify by skin color or ethnicity can now be known as "Belgians."

I lived in Brussels 40 years ago and they were already starting to have problems with Muslims, mostly Turks, who had been allowed into the country to work in the fields. I was also there when Italy won in 1982 and lived on the edge of an Italian neighborhood. The celebrations were noisy, drunken and lasted all night, but no one was hurt and no damage was done to the area. I’m glad that I’m old.

I was born without the herding gene and often thought it was a handicap, but maybe not. I am completely apathetic about sports or any other group/team endeavor. I've always seen those who do care as kind of silly. If everyone else is doing it, count me out. If they are excited about doing it, count me way out. Stories like this make me think that handicap is a blessing.

Yoni Barrios, 32, approached the group of women on the famous Las Vegas Strip on Thursday and said he was a chef, local news station KTNV reported. Holding what police described as a "large knife with a long blade," he asked the women if they would pose for a photograph with him – then began attacking when they rebuffed him, the outlet reported.

Stanford plays a football game Saturday against one of the Pac-12 renegades: If things go according to the landscape-shattering plan, the game at Stanford Stadium will be the second-to-last time the Trojans ever travel to the Bay Area as a member of the Pac-12. UCLA, also a defector, will make its penultimate football trip in November to play Cal. So many things are troubling about the Southern California schools’ plan to become part of the Big Ten in 2024.
