USC, UCLA moving to Big Ten creates a
big problem no one is talking about

Original Article

Stanford plays a football game Saturday against one of the Pac-12 renegades: If things go according to the landscape-shattering plan, the game at Stanford Stadium will be the second-to-last time the Trojans ever travel to the Bay Area as a member of the Pac-12. UCLA, also a defector, will make its penultimate football trip in November to play Cal. So many things are troubling about the Southern California schools’ plan to become part of the Big Ten in 2024. [snip] And here’s another disconcerting issue: the environmental consequences of such a move. More travel means a larger carbon footprint and the devouring of more resources.

Comments:

Indeed, odd that no one in green California is making this argument but it wouldn't go anywhere, regardless - way too much money to be made by fleeing the Pac 12. Really hate to see this. Imagine either of these teams representing the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl (not that it's ever going to happen).

We in the Big Ten don’t want either of them! Who in the heck wants to travel to a football game in California! Crime, high costs, just to improve their lousy useless fan base and increase their revenue in a loser state! Plus the taxes they would place on revenue gained in that hell hole ! Stay out west - be gone!

Carbon, schmarbon. What about California’s state travel ban? The big 10 includes schools in Ohio, Indiana and Iowa, right? And CA has banned state funded travel to these states for various and sundry deviations from wokeism. UCLA is a state school. If they have to play any of these teams in their home states, they must stay home and forfeit the games to comply.

Let the NCAA put any game between teams more than 50 miles apart put the teams in their own locker rooms and stream video of them 'playing' the game on Madden. Voila! No more evil emissions. At least not of the fuel-combustion variety; different measures might be needed to eliminate evil emissions of the digestive kind...

Honestly, I really couldn't care less about this. When the college players started emulating their pro player "heroes" and kneeling during the National Anthem, college football went the way of the NFL at our house. The final "nail" in the college football "coffin" for me was when about half the players on my former favorite team, UT in Austin, decided to threaten to not play if the school didn't change their 100+ year old school song, "The Eyes of Texas". Even the uber-lie-beral administration of UT knew that was going too far, and the players kept playing. Personally, I would have pulled all of their scholarships and told them to hit the road for a more "woke" university if I had any say in it!!! Thank God for high school football!!!

So what about the Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, Rams, Chargers, Kings, Galaxy, and all other professional sports teams crisscrossing the continent throughout the year? Should we be worried about their footprints as well? Global climate fanatics are a very strange religion.

simple answer to this crisis, I guess, USC and UCLA won't have to play any Big 10 teams in the Rose Bowl although I don't even know if they still have the Rose Bowl any more, I don't follow any of the main stream sports for fear of damaging my TV screen from projectiles being thrown from across the room

As a BYU fan, the only good thing I see in USC and UCLA leaving the PAC is its impact on the U of Utah, whose fans have been throwing their “PAC-ness” in BYU’s face for the last decade. Utah’s invite to the PAC was the collegiate-sports analogue to Barack Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009–an award granted more to slight the recipient’s rival than for any real merit.

Joe Manchin cast the deciding vote for the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, and it may end up costing him his political career if a new poll is to be believed. Manchin, who had originally pledged not to sign on to any new spending bill during the country’s current inflationary boom, suddenly switched his position at the end of July. The bill he negotiated, which cost nearly a trillion dollars, was full of wasteful green energy subsidies and payouts to special interests. It also represented a stabbing in the back of Republican senators who had trusted him to keep his word about reconciliation after voting for the CHIPS Act.
