Forecast updates provide a mix of good and bad news. [National Hurricane Center] On the good side, Idalia looks like she will be fast in forward movement as she arrives in Florida. On the bad side of the updates Idalia will be bigger, stronger, and the faster forward movement means the hurricane will be felt further inland potentially into southern Georgia. All advance preparations should be moved to completion within the next 48 hours. Remember, you are in control. There is no need for panic or dark imaginings. Calm, prudent preparations should be taken if you are in the zone of uncertainty.

Topped our gas, and we'll fill the tub and stash pails of water around for flushing toilets. But we may go hungry since Kenya Obama, China Joe, and the Marxicrats have nixed stocking up on food. What a pathetic nation they're making. FJB, Clearwater, FL.

It was reported yesterday that some sort of mix up occurred at several gas stations in the Tampa area where diesel fuel was mixed in with regular gas at several gas stations. That quick trip out of town to avoid the hurricane might not happen if you got fueled up at one of those gas stations.

I live in NEFL. I am currently at Costco picking up prescriptions. It is packed here and people are losing their minds!! It is a tropical storm watch here and people are stocking up like it is the first ever storm to hit Florida!! We got through Ian last fall with just a few fallen leaves. I doubt this one will be any worse.

#6 I was told my insurance (in Carrabelle, FL) doesn't apply if the damage is caused by a named storm. Now they are naming winter storms (ie polar vortexes). I am seriously considering going self-insured.

Paging Ron DeSantis. Paging Ron DeSantis. Governor, please return to your home state ASAP. You will show you care about your state and that your constituents come first. Tell you mega donors, to FO. That you are going back home to do your day job, the job for which the taxpayers of Florida are paying you. God bless the people of Florida and the southeast.

I have family in central Florida. We'll be watching this closely. Texted to one yesterday, doing basic prep. Checking out generator, fresh gas for generator, extra water jugs in the freezer to help hold the cold if power goes out. Food that doesn't require cooking....they have an electric stove. The house has been through dozens of these, literally, since 1880s, and will be fine, no doubt, as long as a tree doesn't fall on it. Most of the nearby trees, are unlikely to do it.

To the DeSantis haters, if Trump can campaign while being in court all day next year, I think DeSantis can handle what’s going on in Florida while being in Iowa. I saw his press conference today, and he was excellent. Hypocrisy anyone?

A woman has filed a lawsuit against a Virginia school district alleging its clandestine support of her daughter’s decision to change her gender identity resulted in her being threatened, bullied, and ultimately trafficked by sexual predators. Michele Blair, biological grandmother and adoptive mother of 16-year-old Sage Blair, alleges in the lawsuit (pdf) filed in August that staff at the Appomattox County High School directed Sage—who has a history of mental health issues and early childhood trauma—to change her name and pronouns and to use the boys' bathroom, all the while keeping it a secret from Mrs. Blair.

Between Establishment Reaganism and Insurgent Trumpism

It's not hard to understand why so many Republicans admire Ronald Reagan. "The Great Communicator" sparked a conservative revival that fractured the remnants of the left-wing New Deal coalition. As president, he helped end the Soviet Union, winning the Cold War. Forty-three years after the Reagan Revolution, and eight years after former President Donald J. Trump changed the game again, none of the Republicans who convened for the first presidential primary debate on Aug. 23 repudiated President Reagan. Even President Trump cited a move by President Reagan as precedent for his decision to skip the debate.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has defended a Soros scholarship he accepted, claiming it came at a time when he “didn’t have the money” to pay for Yale Law School. But there is one problem with that argument. According to reports, the entrepreneur was already a multi-millionaire when he took it. "There was a separate scholarship that I won at the age of 24-25, when I was going to law school in my mid-20s, in my early 20s, when I didn't have the money and it was a merit scholarship that hundreds of kids win, that was partially funded, not by George Soros, but by Paul Soros a relative,

In August 1966, communist leader Mao Zedong commenced “Red August,” a campaign amidst the wider Cultural Revolution to wipe away the “Four Olds” of Chinese society: old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits. He infamously used university students, and other younger children, as foot soldiers to carry out mass beatings and destroy important cultural and historical institutions. The outsized rule of juveniles and young adults in the subsequent massacres perpetrated by the Red Guards was not at all unique. (snip)The American Left has ensured that children occupy an increasingly active role in our country’s political and culture wars. Childhood no longer exists outside the realm of conflicts between adults.

As flames tore through a West Maui neighborhood, car after car of fleeing residents headed for the only paved road out of town in a desperate race for safety. And car after car was turned back toward the rapidly spreading wildfire by a barricade blocking access to Highway 30. One family swerved around the barricade and was safe in a nearby town 48 minutes later, another drove their four-wheel-drive car down a dirt road to escape. One man took a dirt road uphill, climbing above the fire and watching as Lahaina burned. He later picked his way through the flames, smoke and rubble to pull survivors to safety.

Not one prosecutor donated to a Republican, the analysis revealed. The partisan donations come as many within the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office appear to have deep ties to the Bidens.

The White House asserted executive privilege over 200 records housed at the National Archives (NARA) concerning Hunter Biden’s business interactions with the Office of the Vice President during the Obama administration, according to America First Legal (AFL) on Wednesday. America First Legal launched a lawsuit to obtain records from NARA encompassing communications between January 2011 and December 2013 with the name of Hunter Biden’s company, “Rosemont Seneca.” In response to AFL’s records request, NARA refused to release the records, admitting the disclosure would reveal “confidential advice” between then-Vice President Joe Biden and White House advisers. NARA did provide 861 records that apparently did not fall under executive privilege.

It also made no difference to me that the idea of diversity in culture was even necessary.
