Why Diversity

Original Article

Posted By: Toledo, 8/31/2023 6:50:18 AM

Our world in 2023 is filled with different cultures, and we are familiar with the individuals from these diverse nations. This is a wonderful connection and one of the reasons I loved growing up in Manhattan and being exposed to so many people from other countries. As a woman of color who had grown up in the 1950s, my exposure to what constituted American culture was exclusively White although at the time it wasn’t labeled as such. It also made no difference to me that the idea of diversity in culture was even necessary.

If diversity occurs naturally, it's fine. There are competent and intelligent people in all races. If government imposed, we know how that's going.

The forced busing and open housing fiascos should show us that diversity is NOT the natural order of things. One other thing.....when minorities moved into white neighborhoods, it was applauded by the left....when whites move into a minority neighborhood and fix up the homes they buy, it is called "gentrification" and is looked down on.

Funny how all the intelligent people espousing their thoughts on "diversity" seem to simply accept some unwritten definition in which "diversity" means differences in pigmentation or racial makeup. I'd start by asking diversity in what? What really matters is values. People who have no interest in following the same set of rules as others in a society cannot live in harmony with them without the use of coercion to establish order. If you value individual liberty you had better stick with others who also wish to live free of coercion and you had better agree on core values. We have sacrificed harmony, and association based on common values on the alter of diversity in what should be entirely irrelevant characteristics. When you're in the business of selling your services to control the lives of others, getting people to mix who have no desire to play by the same set of rules creates a demand for the control you're pushing.

The word diversity is not in the Constitution . . . or the Declaration of Independence . . . or the Gettysburg Address. Because diversity is not a unifying value. It is a condition. A valueless condition.

Diversity is neither good nor bad. But a deliberate misuse of coercive state power to impose diversity as a public policy (in order) to further the goals of a specific ideology is the real evil. Especially if that furtherance is being sought because the voters have rejected it at the polls.

Diversity certainly isn't mentioned anywhere in the Left's twisted interpretation (y'all come on in - no limits) of the Lazarus poem The New Colossus on the Statue of Liberty. Shove all the commercials featuring black and bi-racial couples in our faces and it means those are items I will have not and will not be buying. I do love it when white conservative pundits are interviewing someone like Larry Elder and the white pundit keeps saying African-Americans and Larry keeps saying black Americans.

The author touches on a pet peeve of mine. If you come here learn our language! We should not have two languages on any of our government forms. This is the United States, learn English. It offends me when I have to press 1 for English. I consider it a matter of respect. If you want to live here and access all the benefits, speak the language. Another thing, if you speak Spanish there is no need during a completely American sounding conversation with no accent to suddenly revert to Spanish when a word or name that is Spanish comes up. We get it. You are Spanish but there is no need to reinforce it. I don’t spring into an Irish brogue or Scottish accent when I am speaking. I am an American and I speak English. Are we all going to start wearing some silly thing on our clothing that will indicate our heritage? So let’s just stop all this and identify as Americans. E Pluribus Unum.

Here's the problem. In the civil rights 60s Boomers like moi were taught to see NO color. The idea was if everyone was a Person of NO Color we would all be seen as equal. It seemed to be an effective strategy. But then, one day Oprah announced, "If you don't see color, you don't see ME." Oops. Game change. Everyone pivoted and now those of us who used to see color and were taught NOT to see color suddenly were told to see color again. Just make up your mind what you want and let us know so we can make you happy and end this divisive hostility toward each other. Or maybe that's not the point?

“To do a debate would be great. But that’s like saying pro wrestling is a show about athletic competition. … You have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably,” - Jon Stewart to the hosts of CNN’s Crossfire, October 15, 2004. I was busy walking my dog several weeks ago, on my lunchtime Thursday break, preoccupied with the piece I was trying to write in my head. The phone rang and a frantic booker was on the line. Would I be able to get to New York tomorrow to do an interview with Jon Stewart on race? I literally laughed out loud.

No one likes to be called a moron, an imbecile or just plain stupid but if you're a conservative, as I am, you will eventually regard that appellation as a badge of honor for speaking the truth. In 2016, Hillary Clinton called me deplorable for daring to vote for Donald Trump and consequently that word's meaning has changed from a negative to a positive as it now means someone who disagrees with the left. I did not vote for Bill Clinton, Barack Obama or Joe Biden but when they won, I certainly didn't fall apart like the Hillary supporters after Donald Trump won in 2016.

The Democrats are taking their stand on the coronavirus crisis in an untenable position. It is like building a defensive redoubt in a valley surrounded by hills in the hands of the enemy (like the French at Dien Bien Phu in 1955, as President Eisenhower warned them). Whether this is tactical stupidity by the president’s enemies or strategic genius by the president or — more likely — a bit of both, is not clear except to insiders. Readers will recall that the Democrats charged out of the gate on the issue of taking science seriously and reacting comprehensively; the president picked up the gauntlet

It looks like the next round of congressional battles over restarting the economy will involve Federal aid to cities and states. While Speaker Pelosi and the Senate Majority leader, Mitch McConnell, battle over money for the states, Mayor de Blasio is pleading for $7.4 billion. This is by no means the first time the Big Apple has asked for a Federal bailout. The fiscal collapse of 1975 is the occasion that most commonly comes to mind. It turns out, though, just over a century ago, a now-forgotten New York crisis ended up establishing a remarkable precedent in American finance

There is simply no other way to state this. Nearly everything we’ve been told about models, rates of infection, deaths, and recoveries was inaccurate. Cuomo announced that antibody testing in New York state, which only began four days previous, was already demonstrating that at minimum 13.9% of New Yorkers, had COVID-19 late stage antibodies.
