I floated an idea about the relative value of having Ron DeSantis in the GOP presidential race in a Facebook post a little over a week ago, and for whatever reason it was one of the few things I’ve put on that platform that hasn’t been suppressed in the past several months. [Snip] Bear in mind, I’m not suggesting that you have to vote for DeSantis. I’m simply advocating for the positive properties of having DeSantis around as at least a second option in this presidential race on the Republican side.
And I’m a Vivek Ramaswamy fan. I’ve loved most of what Ramaswamy has said on the campaign trail.

OK. We get it, Scott.. We neeed to have a backup plan. I’d say that DeSantis is messing up that with his inept campaign and personal failure to connect with the voters. Those who have been close to him say he is aloof. That just doesn’t work in politics. And your wife can’t bridge that gap for you.

I'm not sure that a back up plan is what is needed. The Dims are criminally assaulting the republic.
If they succeed, do we say, well OK, I guess you're right, Trump was Orange Man Bad, are you OK with Desantis? Will you let him be president if he wins the election? Can you be more specific as to what he is allowed to do and say to keep from being impeached or going to jail too?
I am wondering if the Dims' threats of violence and civil war have kept the Republicans petrified for years. After all, the Dims have started one civil war, why not two?

To those who insist the dems would rather face Trump, please explain their hard push to jail him before the election.

As a broken-glass Trump voter, I heartily agree with McKay's position! In other news, I've just begun to read DeSantis' recent book "The Courage to Be Free" and I'm most immediately struck by how much he 'gets it'!
I recommend the book to all voters. And I continue to be cognizant of just how difficult it usually is to find a fabulous campaigner and a fabulous president in the same person....

Right now I’m thinking of all of the candidates running with Trump. Which one would have the best chance of beating any democrat, if Trump wasn’t available. Maybe none of them, but DeSantis has proven what he is capable of, if you consider how well the state of Florida is doing. He would certainly be my choice because I think he can ignore all of the lefty nonsense and get the job done.

To #3's point: some of the rabid haters think Smith will nail Trump and want him to die in prison; others concede that a Trump conviction is likely to be overturned by SCOTUS. The point is, Dem power brokers appear to believe that the relentless pursuit of Trump is increasing the base's fealty to him, resulting in his nomination. And they also believe, rightly or wrongly, that keeping Trump, the presumptive/actual nominee, under siege for the next fifteen months will mean independents will decide they don't want this going on for four more years.
To put it simply, the more Trump is attacked, the more Garland and Smith pile on, the more likely Trump wins the nomination, which may be exactly what they want. I'm posing this scenario as a possibility not a prediction. Trump is so incredibly force and energetic that the doubters will begin to listen to what he's saying and reject the Dems' machinations.
But we still need a backup plan.

Thank you for posting.
I agree DeSantis is the most viable after PDJT. My dad always told me to have a backup plan(s) and that advice has served me well.
However, it’s still early in the game. It’s a long time between now and tomorrow.

Not another Club for Growth, GOPe…
My vote would be beautiful, smart Melania, or let President Trump choose as VP a sharp, smart member of Congress, maybe Jim Jordon or Matt Goetz.

1. DeSaintis is taking himself out of the race and quite frankly, he has done immeasurable damage to himself. I consider him untrustworthy.
2. Of course democrats are trying to take President Trump out because they know he can win and realize something is very wrong with the democrat party as they watch them do anything necessary to take him out. There is a faction of the democrat party that is extremely radical, but without their voting theft, they cannot win because people experience everyday the consequences of this party’s radical and extreme anti-American agenda. Without their massive voter fraud, they know they cannot win and quite frankly they fear that they cannot manufacture enough votes to overcome every dissatisfied American.
The problem President Trump is having are the radical Republicans who also will do anything to prevent President Trump from winning. They are as nasty and vicious as democrats because they know he is determined to come in and stop the corruption that is rampant in the system. Imagine the difference if the GOPe would support PDT. They won’t, he is their worst nightmare because he is going to expose them as self-serving traitors who when push comes to shove only care how they can use government to benefit themselves. The key to this election is a massive turnout from our side. I pray that every single voter has been so red pilled that they will do their part to save this country. We cannot sustain another democrat administration.

We can count on the democrats signaling what they are up to by what they accuse their opposition of doing. We just had a stereotypical MAGA guy shot down for planning an attempt on Biden's miserable life.
We had better have a rock solid plan "B."

My opinion:
DeSantis is a deep state plant. Probably CIA, look at his background. It is perfect for that.
If he is the nominee it is the deep state regaining their absolute control over the government after briefly losing some to the MAGA movement.
This has required a biological warfare attack killing millions around the globe. Rape of the 1st amendment. An administrative coup and the murder and imprisonment of those who point it out.

I’ve been so impressed with what DeSantis has done as governor of Florida. I think he’s a good Republican and as conservative as he can afford to be. This is politics people and what a politician has to do to get where he wants to go is astounding. I’m not a child, I realize under the table deals are part of life and sometimes you have to give your enemies something. I just wish he hadn’t listened to his advisors so intently and thrown his cap into the ring this particular time. He’s always been my choice if the dems manage to destroy our President Trump. Again.

A couple of thoughts - why not let President Trump go ahead and complete his second term. And let America grow and flourish again. Then everyone among the hate-Trump crowd can quit hyper-ventilating about him.
However, a more serious thought - having a backup plan in case something happens to Trump has merit in the sense that Trump remains in grave danger. I worry about his personal safety every day. As we know, chronic hate does strange things to people, and it would only take one nut case to try something. Recall the ongoing mental health crisis in America. Yes, perhaps DeSantis is the backup plan. But if not, who? Who else other than Trump would be able to draw an insane number of votes sufficient to overcome the expected Great Election Fraud of 2024 regardless if the backup person is a rino or not.
Always remember - Obie, the dims, deep state, rinos, msm, globalists, Klaus, and the chicoms are playing for keeps and they intend to complete the transformation of Amerika and preserve the new world order at any cost.

Sanctimonious is off my chart...absolutely...I'm nervous about Vivek because it's been said...he was aligned with soros...years ago...that makes me nervous.... as for a backup ..I don't need it...I will vote for President Trump no matter what prison they put him in....and if they manage to squeeze him off the ballot...I'll vote for Bobby Kennedy...but I don't see President Trump giving up the DOJ/FBI battle...what are they so desperately looking for...Obama's birth certificate?

DeSantis and Vivek are excellent choices. All this DeSantis trouble is spin. He knows his stuff and has a track record better than the others. Yes he should be Trumps VP so we get 12 years of fixit. But if Trump becomes no viable…

Look at the pictures of run working the bbq at the Iowa Fair or other pictures, he looked totally disinterested and did not engage...He is not likable, that said, yes a backup plan is necessary but he is not going to fire up the electorate.

For those who are all in for Trump, this is NOT a piece pushing DeSantis. The subtitle says it all: "You'd better have a backup plan." So I ask, as McKay does, what happens if it all goes south for Trump, and it could happen given the effort to take him down? There absolutely must be a viable candidate to replace him, and he's the only one with a record of success to run on. Clap with glee if you want if he goes down in flames, but please consider that whether they're right or wrong, Dems would rather face Trump.
