Where has THIS Ron DeSantis been?

Original Article

Posted By: sagman, 8/5/2023 6:06:23 PM

At a town hall in New Hampshire, Ron DeSantis was asked how he will respond when Trump starts belittling him and name-calling in personal attacks on the debate stage. His answer was a glimmer that the Ron DeSantis we’ve been waiting to show up on the campaign trail is still there. Is he finally waking up? The question now is whether or not it is too late to make a difference. DeSantis pointed out what many Republican voters think – the way Trump speaks is not presidential. [Snip] A majority of voters don’t want a Trump-Biden re-match.

Comments:

Following up on an earlier post that DeSantis is toast: another view.

Seriously, Karen? Trump doesn't sound presidential? That all you got? Frankly, that's why his supports keep growing. We're tired of the double talk lies from RINO's. They talk pretty but are lying out of both sides of their mouths. I'll take Trump and his stupid remarks. You're right, they aren't presidential. That's why we need him. He fights back.

"DeSantis pointed out what many Republican voters think – the way Trump speaks is not presidential. " Maybe, Ron. But your answer in New Hampshire to questions about dealing with deep state -- that you will begin slitting throats on day one -- isn't exactly presidential, either. Good grief.

"A majority of voters don’t want a Trump-Biden re-match" Says who? Maybe that includes most Democrats because they know Trump will beat the pants off Biden in a fair election. They will have to cheat bigly (again) to drag Biden across the finish line (again).. DeSantis is a forlorn hope for the anti-Trump Republicans. See the chart at this link for one reason why.. https://www.axios.com/2023/07/26/republican-primary-2024-small-dollar-donors

It looks like Hot Air is starting to sound more like Red State everyday. Bonchie has started with the "I support Ron" mantra, and while I wish DeSantis no I'll will, he needs (in my OPINION) to wait for 28. Join the Trump administration team and pick up experience and good will. Then in 2028, stay away from the "Republican" elite and he is an easy winner.

I support both President Trump and Governor DeSantis. I don't know for whom I'll vote when the California primary rolls around, Trump was a good president, not great since he didn't unite us, had minimal legislative success and, worst of all, didn't exceed the margin of cheat in the 2020 election. Trump attracts me on an emotional level and getting him back in the White House would restore justice. DeSantis speaks more clearly, obviously would work to get Congress to pass good legislation and clearly would chose better personnel than Trump did. His response to the Covid hysteria, this century's biggest test, was miles away better than Trump's. He is a bit of a bore. I have no emotional attachment to him, The criticism, highlighted in this article, was entirely correct. Trump is running as if it is 2015 and it is true that many of the promises he made then were not kept. So far Trump has made no attempt to attract the voters he needs to win in 2024. His constant recitation of his grievances appeal only to his base and are a turn off to potential voters. Despite what the Trump pom pom squad says, his support outside the base is not growing. Does he have time to get serious? I don't know but I wish he would.

Think about it. He is a very popular governor of a solidly Republican state. He has an attractive wife. He has a state legislature that will pass pretty much any legislation he truly wants. Even the media in his state is pretty supportive of him. He says all the right things. Sadly, the "he" I was describing was George W. Bush. He was elected president, and suddenly discovered just how hard it is to lead when you have a very hostile opposition party, and way too many members of your own party, in Congress that do everything they can to keep you in your place. I honestly don't see a lot of differences between Bush back then and DeSantis today.

Faced with a historically unpopular president overseeing a weak economy and promoting left-wing “Bidenomics,” Republicans have a golden opportunity in 2024. The election couldn’t be more winnable. And the only thing that should matter for Republicans is actually winning it. While there is a sense that Donald Trump has become a frontrunner in the Republican primaries, there is just as much of a sense that he can’t win a general election—not anymore. Here's the hard truth: If Trump secures the Republican nomination, Joe Biden will be re-elected. But, if Ron DeSantis becomes the nominee, then the Democrats have little to no chance.

The supporters of former President Trump are absolutely correct about one thing. If every single Republican pledged their allegiance to him and fell in line he’d win the nomination easily. But he’d also lose the general election, again. He does not receive enough support from outside the traditional Republican and MAGA base to win in 2024. Hillary Clinton beat Trump by roughly 3 million in the popular vote in 2016. While Trump indeed did win the election by taking the required 270 electoral votes, just a few thousand votes in each of the key swing states would have changed that outcome into a Hillary Clinton landslide victory in 2016.

When Trump burst on the political scene, his smashmouth style was, shall we say, off-putting. Dan Bongino, also from Queens, told us this was just the normal style of speech in that area. And many of us voted for the Donald, knowing that the alternative was simply intolerable. We weren’t sure what he would do, but his opponent was guaranteed to do bad things. For four years, in the face of relentless false attacks, Donald Trump got things done. Lots of things. But he didn’t drain the swamp.

The Bible holds that “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise…” (Proverbs 17:28.) In the modern era, with attribution to Mark Twain, Abraham Lincoln, or others, that’s been reworked as “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.” Former Attorney General Bill Barr’s latest embittered statements about the documents the FBI stole from Mar-a-Lago place him squarely within that quotation. In the government, where it’s almost impossible to get fired, those who stick around long enough become respected, even revered. That’s especially true for attorneys who work in the Department of Justice.

he cancer of early voting tightened its deadly grip on the American body politic in last week’s midterm elections. This is yet another destructive outcome of Nov. 8. The mad rush toward early voting accelerated thanks to another disease: COVID-19. Like so many things wrong in America today, COVID lurks just beneath the surface. Because voting in person was “too dangerous,” opportunistic Democrat lawyers sued like ambulance chasers in 2020 to widen and deepen early voting beyond its earlier, lower profile. This year, with COVID in the rear-view mirror, 2020’s “emergency” measure has become the new normal. The Democrats’ ever-leftward ratchet mechanism always works this way.

The piece was entitled "Crush Them." Conservatives have a rare opportunity [today] to do something they signally failed to do in the landslide elections of 1972 and 1984: finish the job.

As I write, on January 6, 2022, I’m reminded that sometimes government doesn’t go right. Too often, it has been because of oppression — governments only caring about some of the people and riding roughshod over the rest. They paper over the tyranny with the appearance of legality, deepening the oppression by requiring mental and spiritual enslavement to the this caricature as if it were legitimate. But even well-conceived nations can err. Constitutionalists know that even the best systems of law will miscarry. Juries get it wrong, sometimes wrongly convicting innocent people, sometimes failing to convict real criminals.
