When Trump burst on the political scene, his smashmouth style was, shall we say, off-putting. Dan Bongino, also from Queens, told us this was just the normal style of speech in that area. And many of us voted for the Donald, knowing that the alternative was simply intolerable. We weren’t sure what he would do, but his opponent was guaranteed to do bad things. For four years, in the face of relentless false attacks, Donald Trump got things done. Lots of things. But he didn’t drain the swamp.

The supporters of former President Trump are absolutely correct about one thing. If every single Republican pledged their allegiance to him and fell in line he’d win the nomination easily. But he’d also lose the general election, again. He does not receive enough support from outside the traditional Republican and MAGA base to win in 2024.
Hillary Clinton beat Trump by roughly 3 million in the popular vote in 2016. While Trump indeed did win the election by taking the required 270 electoral votes, just a few thousand votes in each of the key swing states would have changed that outcome into a Hillary Clinton landslide victory in 2016.

Ten years ago, back in the halcyon days when we simpletons believed the Republicans were at least some of the time an opposition party, and that Willard Mitt Romney was a man of probity and character, I wrote the following in the pages of National Review Online about the election that was about to take place. The piece was entitled "Crush Them."

Too often, it has been because of oppression — governments only caring about some of the people and riding roughshod over the rest. They paper over the tyranny with the appearance of legality, deepening the oppression by requiring mental and spiritual enslavement to the this caricature as if it were legitimate.
But even well-conceived nations can err. Constitutionalists know that even the best systems of law will miscarry. Juries get it wrong, sometimes wrongly convicting innocent people, sometimes failing to convict real criminals.

The Stasi were part of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Washington- Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has repeatedly said he is “fine” since he froze up midsentence during a press conference on Wednesday. And now his office is trying to tamp down speculation that he might not fill out his term as leader because of his health.
In a statement, his office said McConnell appreciates the continued support of his colleagues and “plans to serve his full term in the job they overwhelmingly elected him to do.”
The statement, first reported by Politico, comes after McConnell, 81, has suffered health problems in recent months. At his weekly press conference, he froze and stared vacantly for about 20 seconds before

Barack Obama was “heartbroken” over the drowning of his chef Tafari Campbell, but has said nary a word about him since he drowned on Sunday. Sasha and Malia Obama flew off to California on Tuesday and Michelle, appropriately dressed in black, played tennis on Wednesday “but only for an hour.” (snip) There has been no obituary for Tafari in any paper, no notification of a funeral -- not even in his hometown paper of Dumfries, VA. (snip) Edgartown, MA police still have not identified the 911 caller, but one story revealed that it was a female.

Surprised that a featured piece like this has not yet been posted. Or maybe not surprised. Hardcore Trump supporters are not going to like some of Noel's assertions. I support Trump and said as much in response to Alicia Colon's recent fiery defense of DJT in a column published in AT. I'm posting this despite the likelihood of blowback because it's important to know why people who share your values think differently than you.
