Faced with a historically unpopular president overseeing a weak economy and promoting left-wing “Bidenomics,” Republicans have a golden opportunity in 2024. The election couldn’t be more winnable.
And the only thing that should matter for Republicans is actually winning it. While there is a sense that Donald Trump has become a frontrunner in the Republican primaries, there is just as much of a sense that he can’t win a general election—not anymore. Here's the hard truth: If Trump secures the Republican nomination, Joe Biden will be re-elected. But, if Ron DeSantis becomes the nominee, then the Democrats have little to no chance.

Question for Dan the man Backer? If DeSantis is the nominee, who is gonna vote for him in order for him to win? Ronnie boy is gonna have trouble just staying in the race....
And actually, joey boy will not be the candidate. He will either resign or just plain die.

Very possible to have kafab between Trump and DeSantis. Polls have always been used to push a political agenda on us. President Trump keeps taking the arrows for us and fighting back. The whole system is corrupt and he keeps exposing it. He promised to take out the swamp. He won 2020 bigger than 2016. He will win 2024 by even larger numbers (without cheating). He will take the whole stinking swamp down in the process!!

Oh, I don’t doubt that, Dan. But, not because DeSantis is the better candidate or more electable, but because if he is the nominee the GOPe might not go along with the vote fraud this time.

I like DeSantis, he's my governor. But, even though he's a good one, and would be a good President, I don't think he'd have what it will take to completely INUNDATE the swamp, TOTALLY clean house in the DOJ and FBI, and reign in the unmanageable (and UnAmerican) bureaucracy. Only TRUMP has the experience and the resolve to do those necessary things to save America!

Trump is a joke. He cant win. If he's the nominee we are all doomed.
We have heard this all before and it was wrong then, too. The GOPe is hated almost as much as Biden. Whoever they pick will once again be the lesser of two evils at best. They are every bit as corrupt as the dems, just not as good at it.
If we dont do something different, we will always get what we get. How about the GOPe stop the voter fraud and oppose the malicious prosecutions? That would be a start.

My main quibble about PT is his age. He's mid 70s. No matter how brilliant you are if you live long enough your brain will turn into mush. All I have is one vote which will go to the GOP nominee if I make it to Nov 2024.

The article's right on. As for DeSantis and the GOPe, there's no evidence for the false narrative he's not his own man. Shouldn't be hard to find: he's on record with detailed positions and plans to lead with them. He's also focused on each state's election system and is prepared to fight and win -- on those terms. Every time Trump says the word RINO, he's rejecting anyone not in lockstep with him, while apparently believing he won't even need the swing states. His supporters are intense and sincere, but intensity and sincerity don't diminish the widespread passion of his opponents, or match the number of their votes. And polling today is irrelevant. It's still summer. Most people are focused on enjoying it.

Trump handily beat Biden in 2020. Hell do it again. But Biden will be declared the winner. Unless something VERY significant changes in term of election integrity, the fix is already in. Why would they not get away with it again? The deep state rigs elections all over the world. Especially here.

misspelled his name...it is Ron Backer.(or might as well be)
It's still Trumps to lose...A year from now.
During that time, my guess is that a whooooole lot will get worse for America, here and abroad.
Comparing THAT to the actual, factual numbers and circumstances of when Trump was in office will look REAL good.
No other candidate has a proven track record on that kind of National and International level, the fact that it will only be a 4 year commitment, not eight, will seem a plus to many voters, including many that still don't consider themselves "Republican".

I read carefully. Out of extreme deference to OP.
The author may be correct: there is a Trump fatigue in some people — even family and members of my church.
My gut feeling says even if Trump wins, the cake is baking to thwart him, and his administration will be a repeat, in spades, of his last term.
If DeSantis wins, he may be too compromised by Deep State backers to make the changes we need.
I think the communists have finally found the formula that is going to bring us down, and they are going full speed ahead with implementation. No matter who eins.
But interesting read. Thank you for posting.

Here’s the thing guys. I will vote for Trump again but the baggage and lies they have hung him with may preclude him winning. The vicious multiple witless charges against Trump will give independents the reason to vote against him. Here’s how I see it (har and I have been wrong before). They have to dump The Cackler. She is not a viable candidate . She will resign in a few mounts to “spend more time with her family” aftter a couple billion out. Thease leaves joe to appoint the VP to fill the slot,,,,probably Gavin Newsome who wii head the ticket into the 2024. He’s a handsome guy who screwed his best friend’s wife for the fun of it. He is is a despicable person but that’s ok with the Democrat Party

Ron DeSantis is being manipulated by the Bush cabal and given all those who loathe the Bush dynasty, do we really want them in the Oval Office controlling the future of this nation? Another thing that bothers me, and I didn't realize it until Trump ran in 2016, but Trump was the only one who treated the voters with respect as he treated his campaign as a non-stop job interview. Hence the ties and suit. He never appeared at an event without a proper tie, unlike RDS who dresses like a slob. You want to be president Ron? Start treating this campaign like a job interview and put on a tie and show some respect. The same could be said to all the candidates who refuse to show respect for voters and put on a tie.

Why write such nonsense. When you even approach the 2024 as though it in any way resembles a poll n predict election based on messaging and rational strategy, you are just wasting everyone's time.
1. There will be no 2024 "election" if USPS voting is allowed.
2. No repub candidate can win the swinger Arizona and several others.
3. The last republican POTUS had his term stolen from him by a 2 party deep state that tied him to a tree and beat him w a russiagate tire iron. Our country is not even close to recoverd from that. We can NOT move on.
4. Joe Biden did not get 81 million votes. It Wont Matter Who You Run, Stupidos, if it isn't the man they've exposed their deep state curruption to take out.
Wise Up.

I honestly believe that Donald Trump is the only person in this country that can save our republic. He is super rich, so he doesn't have to sell his soul to special interests to run. He doesn't give a damn what anybody thinks about him, so he can't be shamed.
Plus President Trump has a huge base of loyal supporters. They see Ron DeSantis as a backstabbing traitor, and while some might hold their noses and vote for him in the 2024 election, others will just say "I'm done" and sit home. DeSantis will be too indebted to special interests that will fund his run to be able to save us from the disaster that Senile Joe bidet and the Demon-Rats in Congress will leave of this nation. Only Donald Trump can do that, and he has my vote!!!!!

If most posters here think there are enough people in the couñtry to elect Trump, you are sadly mistaken. He doesn’t appear to try to win independents, and he keeps insulting Rinos, so
are enough votes out there to elect him. And I haven’t even mentioned the ways the democrats manage to get “votes.” Probably none of our candidates can win, but some of them might be fed up enough to vote for someone else. Remember the red wave that didn’t happen?

I may get blasted but I can handle it. I will vote for Donald Trump IF he is the nominee but getting there isn't an easy one. Yes, I know Trump can be crass but I think Joe Biden is cantankerous, crusty, grouchy, grumpy, ornery, awkward, irritable, fiery, irascible, peevish, petulant, snappish, cranky, cross, irascible, irritable, testy, fiery, and fractious.
With that said, I think Washington DC and politics have become aloof, detached, distant, haughty, indifferent, standoffish, and unresponsive. Immature if I might add one more character flaw. They ALL are in positions of leadership and act like babies. People have to live their lives every day to the best of their potential while dealing with the problems and hardships that come along with it. We have Washington DC leadership who actually are part of those problems and hardships because of ineffective leadership.
What holds me back with Donald Trump? He only has four years and I am tired of his immaturity when it comes to other Republican candidates.
Okay, okay, I like looking up synonyms!

Trump leads republicans by a huge margin, and Desantis trails by a similar margin. Anyone who points out the numerous fallacies and of polling mechanisms and their very poor record of “getting it right,” but then doubles down on “anyone but Trump” in the face of his continuous overwhelming support from the citizens of this country… is part of the problem he described. Pollsters and media hacks will never get it right. As Dan Backer said, “you need only look at social media to see that Trump is a clear favorite.”
Dan Backer is just another media a hack, telling us what he wants to believe while ignoring facts.

I have to hand it to the anti-trumpers, they never give up. The media narrative for some time has been that only DeSantis can win in the general. I'm amazed how many people fall for the MSN narrative and don't even realize it. Only DeSantis can win, then why is he 30 40 points behind Trump if he can't win the base he cannot win the general election. DeSantis has been an excellent governor, but he has been a horrible National candidate. I would suggest some of the anti-trumpers check out DeSantis donors list, they're not G o p e? The anti-trumpers are much like Democrats, yes Trump has many flaws the anti-Trumpers like Democrats refused to see his accomplishments he has done more than any president since Reagan. I never knew conservatives had as many Pearl clutchers in its mist as we do. God help us.

I didn't read the entire article. I don't agree that DeSantis is a guaranteed win over Biteme. There is a good chance Biteme will not be on the ballot in 2024. Trump is the defacto nominee. DeSantis is for the future and a backup candidate if necessary next year. Like 2016 there is a large segment of voters who don't like Biteme or Trump. Right now, they dislike Trump more than they dislike Biteme but their position on the key issues is more favorable to Republicans. This tells me that Trump can change this by convincing this group of voters that they really dislike Biteme more than they dislike him. After all, he's a master in making a deal and closing the sale.
