The swamp sends up a weather balloon about
bringing back the military draft

With military recruitment numbers down, it was probably only a matter of time before someone from the Washington swamp bruited the idea of restoring the military draft. Joe Plenzler, whose biography here suggests he's more than a little familiar with the swamp, wrote an op-ed for Military.com, via Tom Knighton, calling for this: Which, no matter how seemingly palatable the modified proposal, is still a restoration of the military draft and all its unpopular aspects, done to boost military recruitment numbers.

Well, as far as I can see, many of those jobs that were filled easily by draftees--motor pool, laundry, mess, garrison supply, cleaning--are mostly contracted out to civilians at higher pay than draftees ever got. Now, if you want to be trained as a mechanic, you're better off financially hooking up with a contracting firm. Then again, they've changed the uniform several times since I served.

As long as women are included, I’m OK with it! You have to hand it to these lib/progressive/commies, they stick to their guns right or wrong, mostly wrong. God forbid, they change course when things don’t work out. So draft women with men to make your numbers. And no exemptions! That Christine Wormuth is a woke idiot. Where do they find these people?

Actually I think our society would be in a much better state now if there was compulsory national service at age eighteen or after high school graduation. Military or some other form of service--for men and women--no carve outs or exemptions.

I think a huge sticking point was the 'vaccine' they were mandated to take. I'm an old great grandmother but I think maybe women can be included in this to a degree. Can't see them fighting in foxholes, if that is still a thing, but there are lots of other things they can do to serve their country and learn a little discipline.

I went through Air Force basic training, arguably the easiest basic out there, in 1981. It was still not easy. Some guys didnt make it and it was a huge wake up call for a lot of us. The psychological battering was endless. I doubt I could do it now. A draft would probably improve the quality of the recruits, because they would be getting guys in who have other options. We should keep in mind that it wouldnt even be a topic of discussion if they hadn't turned the military into a San Francisco bath house or a Black Panther rally.

Personally, I think it would be a great idea! My Husband and Brother were Both Drafted during the Viet Nam war. They didn't like it, but tough! You have to go. I think if we had a Draft now, we wouldn't have hundreds of young Boys running into Stores and stealing everything there! These Boys would be learning to be men! We're not at war at the moment, but it could happen if China wants to take advantage of our less than Stellar Military at this moment. Drag those "Boys" off the Streets and make them march! Force them to take orders without flipping off their Sargent! and No, I don't think women should be drafted. I think that is when our military started to fall apart! I do think there should be "no exceptions" for drafting. Trump got out for having flat feet or something like that. So did a lot of other Rich Boys! If their daddy knew someone high up, they could call them and get them excused. Shouldn't happen! and No, Homosexuals shouldn't be excused, but they should be "men" while serving!

Remember it was the liberal Democrats who did not want their draft dodger offspring to go to Vietnam who finally ended the draft in 1973. I don’t believe that with only a small percentage of American youth considering enlisting in the military that such a proposed draft could be implemented unless North America is invaded militarily in the future. It’s more likely that the leftist Democrats and cheap labor loving wimpy Republicans would offer unlimited numbers of foreign migrants (illegal aliens) to qualify to enlist in the U.S. military in return for an immediate grant of US citizenship. Especially of the leftist Democrats believe that they could transform as many of those migrants (illegal aliens) into becoming future leftist or socialist Democrat supporters and voters, as is the real leftist and socialist Democrats long-term objective with all foreign migrants (illegal aliens).

Fitch’s rating on the U.S. now stands at “AA+”, or one notch below the top “AAA” grade. After he was indicted for the third time, Donald Trump reacted with his now-standard, twin-pronged approach: first, expressing outrage and denying the charges, and second, asking his many loyal supporters for money. But the former US president, who faces four charges over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, also found defenders among rightwing media in America which has often fervently defended him, sometimes flying in the face of reality to do so. In the minutes after the Trump indictment was filed in federal district court in Washington, conservative commentators rapidly scrambled to his defense. Rightwing pundits lined up to compare the charges to “criminalizing thoughts”

Bumped from Sunday: The current heat wave is being relentlessly blamed on increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but there is a much more plausible explanation, one that is virtually endorsed by two of the world's leading scientific organizations. It turns out that levels of water vapor in the atmosphere have dramatically increased over the last year and a half, and water vapor is well recognized as a greenhouse gas, whose heightened presence leads to higher temperatures, a mechanism that dwarfs any effect CO2 may have. So why has atmospheric water vapor increased so dramatically?

So a Democratic Party operative has once again indicted Donald Trump on transparently foolish grounds. The result of the Democrats’ seeming obsession with Trump is that he continues to dominate headlines and suck up oxygen nearly three years after he lost the presidential race in 2020. This is truly extraordinary. Did Jimmy Carter dominate headlines in 1983, years after he was thrashed by Ronald Reagan? Was Walter Mondale a fixture in the press in 1987, after being clobbered by Reagan in 1984? Were the papers full of commentary on Michael Dukakis in 1991, three years after he was obliterated by George H.W. Bush? How about John McCain and Mitt Romney?

Now that Donald Trump has been indicted for using lies about the 2020 presidential election to seek to overturn its results, it’s become a matter of grave national concern that big majorities of Republicans apparently don’t think he was lying at all. A new CNN survey shows that 69 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents do not believe “Joe Biden legitimately won enough votes to win the presidency” in 2020. It’s worth asking what if anything might have convinced them to believe Biden’s win was legitimate, if only to establish what could happen differently in 2024 to avoid another contested Democratic win — if not an attack on the Capitol.
