Former NFL quarterback Colin Kapernick accused his adoptive parents of "perpetuating racism" in an interview that aired Thursday. Kaepernick talked about coming to terms with his racial identity while growing up in a White family in his new graphic novel, "Change the Game." The former football player recalled disagreements with his parents that he attributed to racism, calling his upbringing "problematic." "I know my parents loved me. But there were still very problematic things that I went through," the biracial quarterback said to CBS News. "I think it was important to show that, no, this can happen in your own home, and how we move forward collectively while addressing the racism

Comments:

Cry me a river, Colin! Maybe your birth parents wouldn’t have talked about your hairstyle, but what else did they do for you? Your adoptive parents chose to raise you and gave you an amazing home and upbringing. Count your blessings!

In my opinion, ingratitude is the worst of sins, involving the First and Fifth Commandments. None of us had perfect parents. But our parents were totally dedicated to us, and would not have tolerated outsiders putting idiotic ideas into their children's lives. Growing up, I was never taught to hate others on the basis of appearance. Now in my seventh decade of life, I still believe the same. 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” Wisdom for the ages.

My three younger brothers were teen-agers in the early 70's. One of them ran away from home when my parents told him to get a haircut. Another one came home with about an inch cut off and when my parents started yelling at him he told them the barber said it was 'unhealthy' to cut too much off at once and they believed him. When my mom told me that several years later I started laughing so hard she got really angry at me and I thought she was about to throw something at me. So, have your poor pity party Colin, while everyone is laughing at you.

"I know my parents loved me. But there were still very problematic things that I went through," That sentence begins and ends with “I”. Just a guess from an old white lady, who was once a teenager many years ago, that appears to be much more “problematic” than any racism by his white parent. Racism is not a skin problem. It’s a heart problem. (Matthew 15:17-19) He acknowledges that his parents always loved him. But, considering everything Colin’s name brings to mind since it first became known publicly, it’s easy to see that Colin was probably a perfect child who never caused a moment’s problem for his flawed & ignorant, albeit loving, parents.

Post-decency politics: House Democrats

“At long last, have you left no sense of decency?” Those words were first asked by lawyer Joseph Welch in his confrontation with Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis.) during the Senate’s infamous Army-McCarthy hearings. This week, nearly 70 years later, Welch’s words seem more relevant than ever after House Democrats savaged two journalists who attempted to explain a government effort to censor citizens. It was only the latest of a series of hearings in which FBI agents and other whistleblowers, experts and journalists have been personally attacked for raising free-speech concerns. This week’s hearing showed definitively that we live in a post-decency era.

George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley on Saturday appeared on FOX News to react to the Twitter Files hearing in the House. Turley said the hearing was like a Soviet show trial because Democrats were outraged when Republicans allowed witnesses to respond to allegations made by the Democrats. "You had Democrats who accused former members of Congress of being Putin lovers and conspiracy theorists," Turley said. "All they were doing was raising free-speech concerns but what really was shocking in the last hearing is the Democrats have now severed their connection to the free press and the values underlying the free press."

Friday’s biggest headline-grabbing news was the bust of Silicon Valley Bank following a run on its deposits. The collapse was the second-largest bank failure in the nation’s history and fears of a domino effect rattled stock markets. Seen from the long run, however, that was probably not the most important event of the day. The honor goes to the announcement that Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic relations. Given their long proxy war in Yemen and fierce sectarian hatred, the sudden agreement (right) was stunning. Even more so because China brokered it.

America’s top medical schools, worried they have too few minority students, are doing something about it. They are lowering academic standards for admission and trying to hide the evidence. Columbia, Harvard, the University of Chicago, Stanford, Mount Sinai, and the University of Pennsylvania have already done so. The list already tops forty, and more are sure to follow. Of course, the universities won’t admit what they are doing – and certainly not why. All they will say is that their new standards add “equity” and “lived experience.” Unfortunately, adding those factors inevitably lessens the weight given to others.

Seizing an opening in their long war against Fox News, mainstream news outlets are blasting out reports that some of the network’s leading stars appear to have knowingly lied about the 2020 election. In blanket coverage that echoes reporting on the invasion of Normandy, they are hammering Fox with one-sided court documents that suggest they deceived their audience by pretending Trump might have won when they knew he had lost. The charge that this episode proves Fox is not a legitimate news outlet is overkill, but if the emails and texts released so far are not just cherry-picked tidbits, the actions of some of its hosts were indefensible.
