Trump, Haley to battle for spotlight at CPAC

Original Article

Former President Trump and his ex-United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley are set to give dueling addresses at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) next week, putting a sharp focus on the ongoing tug-of-war within the GOP. It’ll be the first time since Haley launched her presidential bid last week that the two declared major Republican 2024 contenders will pitch their candidacies at the same event. And while few Republicans expect Trump and Haley to go after each other directly, they say that it could offer one of the clearest examples yet of the simmering tensions within the party.

Even if you don't like Trump, he is a great public speaker. Probably the best the Republicans have had since Ronald Reagon. Since the first "C" in CPAC stands for "conservative", he will get that place so fired up like he does every time he speaks. Haley will get a polite response for her milk-toast speech. But if you are keeping score, it won't even be close. Conservatives love Donald Trump!!!!! RINO Nikki Haley -- not so much...

How about you both address the enemy, FJB, and leave each other alone for now? There is plenty of time to address your differences as the campaign season progresses. Remind us of the mess FJB has made and what you will do to get us back on track to recapture the spirit of America.

What The Hill dramatically labels ‘simmering tensions’ is simply more than one person running in the nomination. There will be more.

March can’t come soon enough for ratings-challenged CNN. The long-struggling network is on pace to finish February with its smallest monthly audience among the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults age 25-54 since June 2014. "Anderson Cooper 360," "The Lead with Jake Tapper" and Wolf Blitzer’s "Situation Room" are on pace to their smallest audiences since that same month among the critical demo, while "Inside Politics" is on pace for its least-viewed month among the category since August 2005. The Club for Growth, a leading conservative campaign group, will host a donor retreat in Palm Beach, Florida this weekend. Most of the 2024 potential or declared Republican candidates are invited and will be there, all except for one noticeable exception – Donald Trump. Though the retreat will be held near Mar-a-Lago, Trump is not invited. He and the group had a falling out during the 2022 midterm cycle and apparently that has not been repaired. Trump has worked with the Club for Growth in the past. However, the two found themselves at odds during the 2022 midterm elections on candidate endorsements. And, Trump was angry about the group’s publishing

On Sunday night, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appeared on “Life, Liberty, and Levin” on Fox News, purportedly to promote his new book, The Courage to Be Free, which comes out this week. While DeSantis has not yet declared that he’s running for president, he certainly sounded like a man who’s making the case for his candidacy. Or, if not, he’s making a case for conservatism as the path to American success and prosperity— the subtitle of the book is “Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival.” As my colleague Stephen Green pointed out earlier today: DeSantis isn’t traveling to early presidential primary states like Iowa or New Hamphire, at least not yet. Florida governor Ron DeSantis derides the “swamp” in Washington, D.C., and takes shots at the GOP establishment in his new book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival. DeSantis writes of deciding to make his third term in Congress his last: “I was especially frustrated with all the missed opportunities of the Republican Congress after Donald Trump became president.” National Review obtained a copy of the book ahead of its February 28 release. “Here we had a unified Republican government for the first time in more than a decade, and yet so much of the time was frittered away on matters like the conspiracy theory that Donald Trump’s campaign

The Biden administration remains supportive of gain-of-function research despite the potential risks as long as that research is pursued in a safe and transparent manner, national security council communications coordinator John Kirby explained on Monday. The controversial practice involves making pathogens more deadly or transmissible in order to better understand current or future pandemics, and thus be able to respond faster. Funding for the research was halted in 2014 during the Obama administration due to concerns about the risks: If modified pathogens escape the laboratory setting, they can cause pandemics.

Instead, Stellantis announced in June the vehicles will be built in Windsor, Ontario, dashing the hopes of Belvidere boosters and dealing a major blow to the state’s EV manufacturing ambitions. Stellantis is also building a $5 billion battery plant in Windsor.

Exclusive— As the showdown between Florida's legislature and The Walt Disney Company heated up over an education bill that liberal activists incorrectly labeled the "Don't say gay bill," Disney's then-CEO called Gov. WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden's $400 billion student loan forgiveness plan will finally get its day at the Supreme Court on Tuesday. But some experts predict that by the time arguments end, the administration may wish it had been somewhere else. Biden's proposal, which would forgive up to $20,000 for some borrowers, is almost certain to be in for a rough ride before a court with a 6-3 conservative majority and an increasingly skeptical view of agencies acting without clear approval from Congress. "The case against him on the merits is very strong," said Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University. Asked if the administration is certain to lose,
