Hey, guess what? The COVID emergency is over — three months from now! God made the universe in six days. It will take President Joe Biden about 240, all in all, to bring an end to an “emergency” that ought to have been over the very moment he said it was over in September 2022.
I know Joe Biden isn’t God, to put it mildly, but this is setting the bar a little low even for a president who has redefined the meaning of the phrase “setting the bar low.” To recap: The president declared the crisis moment had passed Sept. 18, 2022, when he appeared on “60 Minutes”

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday released a video message, vowing to bring an end to the “chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of our youth on day one” in office.
Trump lamented the woke left’s attempts to push what he described as “gender insanity” on the nation’s youth, deeming it an “act of child abuse.” In the video, Trump presented his plan to “stop the chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation of our youth on day one.”
That begins with ending President Joe Biden’s push for “gender-affirming care,” as the 80-year-old has condoned the use of puberty blockers and surgeries to “affirm” a child’s chosen gender, Trump said.

President Joe Biden answered a question on ending the three-year COVID emergencies by grabbing a reporter's hand and squeezing himself underneath her umbrella on Tuesday.
Before boarding a flight to New York, the 80-year-old walked over to NBC News' Chief White House Correspondent Kristen Welker when she asked: 'What's behind your decision to end the COVID emergency?'
She was referring to the move announced Monday night to draw down two COVID national emergencies by May 11, more than three years after they were first announced under Donald Trump.

In a “Twitter Files” style thread, one independent journalist made the case for Elon Musk to further expose the unseen machinations of his social media company based on 2019 leaks that demonstrated Google’s influence over elections.
Going by the name KanekoaTheGreat, the previously banned account that was restored by the billionaire entrepreneur, took to Twitter Monday with a link to a September substack he posted that declared “Google Rigged The 2020 Election.” The piece called back to the 2019 report by Project Veritas which spoke with Google insider Zachary Vorhies who leaked nearly a thousand pages of internal documents that detailed alleged censorship and suppression of conservative content.

More than 50,000 pounds of deli meat is being recalled nationwide over potential listeria contamination.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a recall of eight products on Sunday, including popular brands such as Boar's Head and Meijer.
The goods were sold in stores across the US between December 23, 2022 and January 17, 2023.
No adverse events have yet been linked to the contaminated meats, but customers who bought the products with a USDA EST.54 inspection label are being advised to return them or throw them away.

President Joe Biden, who is now sending tanks to Ukraine, warned in March that doing so would result in World War III.
Biden announced last week that the United States would send 31 Abrams M1 main battle tanks to Ukraine in what amounts to an escalation of American support for Ukraine’s conflict with Russia. Biden said:
With spring approaching, Ukrainian forces are working to defend the territory they hold and preparing for additional counter offenses to liberate their land. They need to be able to counter Russia’s evolving tactics and strategy on the battlefield in the very near term. They need to improve their ability to maneuver

The FBI in November reportedly searched President Joe Biden's former office, looking for classified documents.
Agents searched an office previously used by the president at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C., CBS News first reported and NBC News confirmed.
The previously undisclosed search was conducted with the cooperation of Biden's lawyers, according to a report by the New York Times that cited a person familiar with the investigation.
The mid-November search apparently took place after two of Biden's lawyers discovered classified documents in the office on Nov. 2.

For some reason, Tuesday, January 31 is Ron DeSantis news day. Jazz had a post on the governor, then I, and now I again.
The prior two were purely political, though. This one is more substantive.
The press conference where DeSantis was asked about Trump’s criticism of him actually was about a policy announcement, and it’s a policy that should warm the cockles of any conservative’s heart: banning the use of DEI principles in Florida higher educational institutions. It’s a big deal because DEI and its associated ideological offshoots are a big problem.
The proposal is sweeping and sure to inspire a lot of whinging from the Left. Likely more than whinging;

The charges against Baldwin and the set's armorer, Hannah Guiterrez Reed, include two counts of involuntary manslaughter, the DA's office said. Attorneys for both defendants previously insisted their respective clients are innocent. District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told CNN earlier this month she would charge Baldwin and the film's armorer with involuntary manslaughter, accusing them of failing to perform safety procedures that could have prevented the accident that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Important and laudable as it was at the time (1975), we must conclude that the Senate’s vaunted “Church Committee,” under Sen. Frank Church (D-Idaho), ultimately failed in its mission to reform the CIA, FBI, IRS, and the National Security Agency (NSA) anywhere near permanently.
Now, 48 years later, we’re in a similar, and arguably worse, situation with the same—and more—three-letter agencies, the only serious difference being that this time Democrats are trying to cover things up while back then it was largely the Republicans.
I hesitate to use Wikipedia, given its reflexive bias, but its summary of what the Church group found seems accurate:

But the party has never been able to push North Carolina into true tossup-state status like it has with Arizona or Georgia.
Democrats haven’t won the state’s electoral votes since Barack Obama’s heralded 2008 victory. They haven’t won a Senate race since then, either. And while North Carolina has delivered just enough mixed results to make clear it is, in fact, winnable for the party,

Last spring, the American system of government suffered a grievous blow when someone leaked the draft Supreme Court opinion that would ultimately prevail in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, overturning the infamous Roe v. Wade abortion precedent. The brazen act threatened the internal deliberative process on which the Court relies for its day-to-day functioning and spurred illegal protests outside the homes of justices. Those protests attempted to cow the justices into deciding Dobbs the way the pro-abortion mob wanted, culminating in an assassination plot against Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The damage done to the Court as an institution was incalculable, and perhaps irrevocable.

The president has told this fabricated story since at least his 2020 presidential campaign.

In the Department of Homeland Security alone, nearly 2,000 ineligible or potentially ineligible employees

It's not news, necessarily, that CNN is not keeping up with the post-Trump administration times we live in — despite a change in course directed by new boss Chris Licht following a merger between CNN's parent company and Discovery. But when tanking ratings continue to sink to levels not seen in nearly a decade, there's bound to be some talk of whether the network is salvageable at all.
Enter a new dispatch from TheWrap noting CNN "notched its lowest ratings in nine years across all its day parts for the week of Jan. 16 through Jan. 22, 2023," per ratings data from Nielsen: "just 444,000 viewers in primetime,

A mysterious spiral formation was spotted in the night sky above Hawaii earlier this month, sparking curiosity among observers.
The spectacle, initially spotted by an observatory in Mauna Kea on Jan. 18, first looked like a traveling bright star before it morphed shapes.
It grew into a larger blob before it transformed into a dot with a spinning spiral around it, footage from the Subaru-Asahi STAR Camera shows. (Photo) The night sky whirlpool, however, is not a UFO or spaceship — but reportedly the work of billionaire Elon Musk.

Just when you think the City Council couldn’t go lower, along comes Councilmember Kristin Jordan-Richardson looking to rename a Harlem street after Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad, who promoted an odd mixture of black nationalism, “black capitalism” and black separatism.
And in the most pernicious of ironies, KJR proposes “The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad Way” for the corner of West 127th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.
Speculation continues to this day about Mohammad’s involvement in the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X, who’d broken fully and public with the NOI not long before

House Republican plan to vote on resolutions this week that would end COVID-19 emergency declarations immediately.. Biden told Congress on Monday that his administration will end twin emergencies related to the COVID-19 pandemic on May 11, 2023, more than three years after they were enacted.

Although President Biden keeps insisting his economic programs are working great, there are plenty of troublesome signs indicating otherwise, including the all-important rate of consumer spending. Simple rule: if people are buying more things, it generally means they feel good about the state of their finances and the economy. When folks tighten their belts, however, it’s because they either simply don’t have enough money to purchase more than the essentials, or they’re holding on to their wallets because they fear for the future.
Consumer spending is often known as the “engine of the economy”—and it’s out of gas. The Wall Street Journal reports

The Justice Department made it official — the two recent special counsel appointments are among their top justifications for stonewalling congressional investigations into the classified documents sagas surrounding former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden .
The White House , the National Archives, and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines have all pointed to the appointment of special counsels in the Trump and Biden sagas as reasons for missing deadlines or deflecting questions , and the DOJ has now confirmed the special counsel justification for delays in info sharing.

There aren’t many things that Democrats and Republicans agree about these days but one of the few on which there seems to be general accord is that Kamala Harris is not a credible presidential candidate. Today the Washington Post published a story for which they spoke to more than a dozen Democrats who are worried about VP Harris’ role in the party’s future. The piece opens with an on-the-record comment from former Cobb County Democratic leader Jacquelyn Bettadapur:
Many Democrats, Bettadapur said, “don’t know enough about what she’s doing” — and, she added, “it doesn’t help that she’s not [that] adept as a communicator.”
Such concerns about Harris’s political strength were repeated

President Joe Biden on Monday shrugged off a question about whether he would testify in his classified documents investigation if the special counsel asked him to with a dismissive wave.
'Oh I don't even know about the special counsel,' he told reporters at the White House.
Special counsel Robert Hur is starting at the Justice Department this week to begin his probe into how and why Biden had classified documents in his possession.
The scandal has engulfed Biden's White House at a time the president trying to tout his economic and legislative accomplishments ahead of his expected 2024 presidential bid.
