Nearly 100 members of Congress bought or sold financial assets that intersected with the work of the committees they sit on, according to a New York Times report. Of the 435 House members, 183 traded stocks through themselves or their immediate family members from 2019 to 2021. At least 97 bought or sold stocks, bonds or other financial assets through themselves or their spouses that directly intersected with their congressional work. US lawmakers are not yet banned from making any stock trades, though insider trading is illegal for everyone. The trades that intersect with committee work are split evenly on partisan lines-49 Republicans and 48 Democrats.

This is why we need term limits. Politicians spend half their time fundraising and a third running for reelection. This leaves precious little time for them to actually serve we the people. This would allow them much more time to serve their constituents.

FTA: Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., has proposed her own legislation to ban trades, but was included in the list because her college-age son bought and sold stocks without her knowing. Craig, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said she found out her son was trading stocks in Uber and Lyft when she filed her transaction paperwork.
Uh huh.

#1, most of that left-over precious little time is spent NOT doing the nations' business, but investigating each other, and justifiably so. Not that there are any lasting consequences from that.

Slightly less than 20%. I would have guessed that we have more opportunistic crooks in Congress than that. Unless the rest just don't have access to good inside information.

The love of money is the root of all evil and that has never been more true than when we get a glimpse of the corruption in our own government. There is zero integrity and such arrogance and hypocrisy that runs deep in the hearts of these so called public servants. They enrich themselves because they make the laws and many do not apply to them and then pass specific ones that actually benefit them by design. This has to stop. Whatever law is passed by these thieves should apply to all of us or none of us. We have to demand more. Ask them the hard question and make them answer how they manage to become multimillionaires on their salary in a few short years. This is a racket and it is supposed to be illegal but these public servants have become self-serving opportunists who enrich themselves any way they can at the expense of Americans who pay their salaries, benefits and cushy pensions. It is disgusting. Americans suffer under the weight of their failed policies while they live high on the hog. They honestly are such a bunch of crooks, thieves and liars.

No wonder they fight like starving dogs to win a congressional seat. If I didn't have a real job & life, I'd give it serious consideration.

Will any Member of Congress who has NOT manipulated stocks please stand up. I don't think there will be many takers. It's like the Roman Emperor Augustus shouting from his palace balcony "Is there any man in Rome who has not slept with my daughter?"

It's why most of them get into politics. The happy ,easy road to self enrichment. It's also they hate and fear Trump, him not being one of the club,he put America , not himself first . More like him and the gravy train would be derailed and they can't risk that. Selling out your country has serious penalties.

MN Dem (and pro-baby killer) Angie Craig sounds like a very concerned mom. Maybe she and her "wife" need to discuss how to raise this son properly.

being a politician in the USofA today is like holding the honey pot or the magic lantern from whence a genie will grant your every wish, politicians enter the game some on a shoestring others with adequate of better than adequate funding but all end up having substantially more $$$ in their bank accounts when they leave than when they started - summation: there is too much $$$ in the political business and that has to stop

I'm sure it is higher #10. These here are just the ones not quite smart or careful enough to keep it truly under the table. Like roaches, you see 1 or 2 but that means there are dozens more you don't see.

How else do Congress critters and their family members get to be multi-millionaires on a $174K / annum salary? By using insider trading information, something that would get the rest of us a term in Leavenworth. But the Congress critters gave themselves immunity on insider trading. How nice. Rules for them, other rules for us. No Joke.
