Christianity has remained at the forefront of the nation's political and social conversations for centuries — but new research shows that could be changing.
A new report by Pew Research Center and the General Social Survey published on Tuesday found that the large numbers of people in the U.S who practice Christianity are declining. The religion's demographic has been dwindling since the 1990s, the report said, as many adults transition to an identity of atheist, agnostic or "nothing in particular." In the early '90s, about 90% of people in the U.S. identified as Christians, the report said. In 2020, Christians accounted for about 64%

I know my fmr church's attendance has dwindled after the new minister started preaching wokeness. Just because my butt is no longer in their pew doesn't mean I am no longer Christian. After a lot of searching, and finding non-Biblical wokeness being spewed from pulpit after pulpit, I found a small evangil8cal church which sticks to Scripture.

Sadly, a lot of Christian churches (I dare say most of them) really blew it in 2020 when the government told them to lock their doors and they did. When the faithful needed their churches to give them comfort and leadership in those trying times, and lead with strength and faith in the power of God, they cowered in fear and hid in the darkness.
And the group it has hit the hardest are young people (teens and 20's). After so many years of "woke" indoctrination from schools and popular culture, their faith was teetering anyway. Being locked away from church and seeing how weak their churches were was just the final nail in the coffin. Even though many churches are getting 70% or more attendance again of their pre-Covid numbers, the presence of younger people is definitely diminished.
At my small Southern Baptist church, we are at about 50% of our pre-Covid attendance. But it's mostly older people. I was talking to one of my Catholic friends who says they are back to about 85%, but it's older people and young families (at least that is hopeful). But their very active teen group from a couple of years ago is no longer there. And she says the teens and 20's just aren't in the pews.
Sadly, you know that Satan and his lie-beral followers are going to exploit that every way they can!!! Pray, pray, pray!!!!!!!!

The early Christians who were thrown to the lions kept the Faith alive within The Catacombs worshiping among the dead in secret. During their life behind the Iron Curtain, the people of Eastern Europe kept The Church alive in their homes. Icons carefully hidden. The Christians in Red China defied the atheist leaders despite the jailing and torture Church leaders. Many countries around the world have kept the Faith alive despite government opposition.
While I agree with many comments above, especially the disappointment in Church leaders for caving to completely to the government on Covid. I think those predicting the demise of the Christian Faith in America is wishful thinking on the part of the secularists. Our church is full every weekend. We have five Masses with two extra added during the Summer. Our Adoration Chapel has good attendance every single hour of every day and every night.
We have to remind ourselves sometimes. One of the most powerful passages in the New Testament is one that saw me through a few crises in my life.
Matthew 28:20
... Behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

I went into Saint Pauls' in London.
One of the money changers yelled at me to take my hat off.
I took my hat off and left the building.
That was a mistake.
But if I had done the right thing,
and turned his table over
I would undoubtedly been arrested.
They will worship the memory of a religion.
The corpse of a faith.
Until the money stops.
Then,
just cobwebs...

There is a revival going on right now and the left knows it. This is part of their psyop warfare to attack it and plant the notion that God is dead and Jesus was just another guy. You don't "practice" Christianity. If you are a follower of Jesus you live your life as a believer in Him. You practice the guitar. You don't practice Jesus. This article is all hogwash.

In my group of Pagans, most are former Christians and between 40 and 65 years old, with some younger. They became disenchanted with the hypocrisy, the big business, and the sexual predation of Christianity. Christianity got too big for its own good and began consuming itself. Now, if you check out three different churches you'll find three different messages and three different sets of practices. Only the name is the same. And they all say they are the only path to God.
In my local area, every small town has a church and most have been sold and converted into homes. Of the five that remain, there is just one preacher and he rotates churches. Attendance is still less than a dozen at most services. The median age for parishioners is about 60 and they are dying off. I suspect most go not because they feel spiritually fulfilled, but because they have always gone and it brings them a sense of normalcy and continuity.
The purpose of organized religion is to show you where you've been, where you are, where you're going and how to get there. It should have a sense of community and belonging, and be a source of comfort and direction. The ultimate goal should always be knowing and eventually meeting the divine. People are finding that other spiritual paths meet those needs better.

Because of Covid, there are many great Bible teachings on the internet.
It's wonderful to 'attend' worship services at several locations each week.

Covid presented a great opportunity to shut down churches while allowing liquor stores and tattoo parlors to remain open. Mass attendance in our parish looks to be about 40 percent off.

I have a problem accepting that there has been a 10% decline since 2007. I do believe that Christianity may indeed be on a decline, which has happened to other religions in the past. Our European religion of gods and goddesses is long gone so that may happen to Christianity in the long run.
Christianity is flourishing in Africa and in the area where I live the Hispanics seem to be quite ardent Christians. The left wants Christianity to disappear along with the family and common sense.

Pandemic was hard on my church. We have about 2/3s of our membership worshipping with the streaming service. They like worshipping when it is convenient and there is no commitment to helping out with the in-person service. The problem is for those of us that go in-person we feel lost in our sanctuary with so few there.
Many churches had to close for financial reasons just like many businesses did, especially restaurants.
Remember this from Matthew 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."

I guess it's on me but my Southern Baptist Church of 20 years was full of masked, vaxxed, scardy cats and I'm not bowing down for the wuflu. I wasn't welcome then and I'm not interested in that church now. Tom T Hall sums it up - "Me and Jesus got our own thing going"

My Christianity is still firm. If my church went woke, I will leave it but my faith remains. They will never change that. I am a Methodist and as most of you probably know, we are going to split and it’s not going to be nice. A minority of our bishops are silly, woke activists and they are the most petty, vindictive people I have ever had the misfortune to know. We will get through this but the UMC is going to lose millions of revenue when the dust settles. The remaining faithful will persevere on our own.

I read the article. I’m not clever enough to figure out how to research the poll taken, but I have some questions. Where did they do the sampling? I used to live in the SF Bay Area and I can tell you religion was becoming less and less important to the general population. What the poll discovers would certainly apply there. However, I have moved to a rural area of another state and almost every person I encounter eventually brings up their church, or their belief in God. Churches here in this town have very good attendance. And where my son lives in Texas? Oh my, it is so normal to see people bowing their heads in restaurants to bless their food. I think the viability of religion depends on which the region of the country you are in. I also bet it varies between political parties too.

RE #20 - Our UMC will split, as will my son's in another town. Some pastors are supportive and nothing will change but the name on the door, but other pastors are not allowing a process of discernment, nor a vote regarding leaving the UMC. We are tired of the warfare at General Conference and the hypocrisy of not following the Book of Discipline.
In contrast to this article, we are seeing a revival of Christianity in our area.

#11, “People are finding that other spiritual paths meet those needs better.”
“O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.” Jeremiah 10:23
“Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:5,6
None of us will get to heaven by “finding other spiritual paths”. The One and Only Redeemer has said that He is the only Way.
The Scriptures warn us of false teachers. The Lord answered every temptation of the devil & his twisting of Scripture by knowing the true meaning and answering his lies with “It is written”. He is our example. We must study. 2 Timothy 2:15. It is possible for all of us to know and understand the scriptures alike.
We can’t forsake the Lord, abandon His church, or neglect His holy word simply because false teachers have infiltrated, or taken over a place of worship, and expect to have salvation. We can’t blame God, Who gave the ultimate sacrifice to save us, and provided His inspired Book to guide our path.
Some teach error for malicious reasons. Others do it out of ignorance. The truth is being taught. If we know His word, we will recognize it when we hear it. There are no excuses, because we are assured of finding God, if we diligently seek Him.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6. Diligently seeking Him is our own responsibility.
It’s true that He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and His rain to fall on the just and the unjust, but If our country, our Constitution, our Republic is saved it will be because We The People turn to Him as our only means of salvation. He is God. He knows and does what is good and best.
There are battles that must be fought and won, but all of history reminds us that God is in ultimate control & He grants victories for obedience to His will, or as punishment for lack of it. We can’t continue to choose ungodliness, live for the devil, and expect for God to continue to bless America as a nation. We will either turn to Him and try to do right in His sight, or we will lose His blessings. True as a nation and true as individuals.

Thank you for making my point so eloquently #24. In my Book Of Shadows you would also find great truths, but because they are not from your preferred source you would dismiss them as heresy. People are finding that they can indeed find God without Christianity. She doesn't hide behind a stained glass window.

#25, many books contain great truths. But, only one Book holds the truths that will save souls from sin, and assures them of an eternity in heaven with the God Who created them in His image.
The word of Almighty God doesn’t hide behind stained glass windows, or in the shadows.
It is hidden in the hearts of the saved, but it shines in their lives for all to see.
