The American people's trust in news outlets has hit a historic low, according to Gallup’s annual survey on confidence in major U.S. institutions. It's like they've discovered that "straight news" isn't their primary goal. Both newspapers and television news have seen another drop in confidence over the past year, with each losing an average five percent of people who said they had a “great deal” of trust in such institutions. Twitter filed suit against Elon Musk in the Delaware Court of Chancery on Tuesday after the billionaire said he was terminating his $44 billion deal to buy the company.
Twitter said Musk, after entering a binding merger agreement, now "refuses to honor his obligations to Twitter and its stockholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests."

New York Chief Judge Janet DiFiore had been facing a state ethics probe when she made her Monday announcement that she was leaving her post at the end of August, according to a report.
The investigation, conducted by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct, is examining whether DiFiore wrongly interfered in the disciplinarily hearing of the president of the state’s court officers association, Law 360 reported, citing documents and a person familiar with the matter. First Lady Jill Biden told a group of progressive Texas Hispanic voters they were as “unique” as “breakfast tacos” during a speech Monday in San Antonio.

Literally decades in the making, the first image from NASA's $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope was released Monday evening by President Joe Biden at a White House briefing.
The first image shows thousands of galaxies – including the faintest objects ever observed – which have appeared in Webb’s view for the first time. This is the deepest view of the cosmos ever captured.

Steve Bannon, the onetime strategist to Donald Trump who was involved in the former president’s efforts to invalidate his defeat in the 2020 election, has opened discussions with the House January 6 select committee about testifying to the inquiry into the Capitol attack.
