The Brittney Griner story has been one which tears at us from two sides. When we hear about an American being detained in a foreign country for offenses which are considered minor here in the U.S., we often become sympathetic, depending on the infraction, of course. And when we learn that the country holding that prisoner is an archrival or enemy such as China, Iran, North Korea, or Russia, our sympathies become that much stronger.
In the case of Brittney Griner, however, things aren’t that simple. Griner, who has been detained in a Russian prison since her arrest at a Moscow airport for possession of cannabis oil

The arrogance of a rich fool who believes that the elite status that has been given to her by society for whatever reason is “her right.” In the states she could bust up a restaurant for shorting her a fry and she thinks that is “her right” or “her righteousness” that allows her to hulk away without consequence.
She is the tourist who wants a selfie with a bison at yellowstone. “Doesn’t the bison know how wonderful i am?” She thinks.
No it doesn’t because you aren’t. You’ve just been accommodated by your fellow man. The accommodation ended for you. Now you have new accommodations.

It would only be appropriate to honor Brittney's deeply held beliefs. The US has oppressed her, persecuted her and limited her opportunities. The racism and Lesbophobia are also major faults of the US. Brittney has made it clear she has no desire to support such an oppressive country. Therefore, the US should honor her beliefs and not do a Darn thing to help her. She would feel it a life's insult for such a nation to aid her. Imagine the depression and ruination of her life if the US, a hated oppressor, helped her. Besides, she definitely is in a country that doesn't have racism against blacks since the only blacks are tourist. And Lesbians aren't persecuted like the Middle East. So she should be very comfortable in Russia for the rest of her life or at least 10 more years.

It just reminds me of the US teen who vandalized vehicles and was caned in Singapore back in th 90s. Griner is a tattooed black gay privileged in the West but is just another doper freak in Russia. Do the crime, do the time. No sympathy from me.

I'm less concerned about the justice argument. The aspect that I find interesting is the potential for an awakening (or not). She was fed a collection of lies from the media, politicians, schools, and probably everyone else she was interacted with in the US. She bought into those lies and became a useful idiot for those who controlled her (and yes, she was controlled, knowingly or not). My hope is that she will see that someday (if not already). She had some degree of fame, some money, freedom. Yet with all that, she acted like she was discriminated against. That she or others were treated unfairly. That it was all part of some white supremacy or systemic racism. Blind to the reality that she had opportunities that others around the world could only dream about. In fact, blind to the reality that many white men, whom she clearly despised, live their lives happily with much less opportunity than her. So know that that opportunity has been taken away, although likely only temporarily, will she see how good she actually had it? Will she stand for the flag? Will she apologize to her country? Somehow I doubt it.

I travel internationally a fair bit. I have zero sympathy, and that has nothing to do with Greiner's privileged stupidity. Once you leave the US our Constitution is null and void. One minds their Ps and Qs, or faces the consequences, from a stern talking to to a wood shampoo and time in the pokey. The world is not as liberal-minded as some would like to believe. Hauling cannabis in any form is an invitation to trouble. She got it. Good luck, girlfriend.

Griner will learn nothing her hatred and indoctrination racism runs too deep. It's time she takes ten years off to enjoy some systemic communism. It's takes more than ugly hair with tattoos to scare those 'rooskies'. Enjoy your stay even Al Sharpton can't help you now and forget about clueless Joe he's too far gone mentally to care. Maybe the WNBA should show the 1978 movie Midnight Express at their annual rookie orientation camp. If you don't remember the movie, here is a link. https://www.google.com/search?q=midnight+express+movie&sxsrf=ALiCzsb5-Yrqfhe89IqvPWr_VrFDhaNtNQ%3A1657637059828&source=hp&ei=w4jNYs7CL7y-0PEPsfCAoAg&iflsig=AJiK0e8AAAAAYs2W09KLeYCFq8JCFTddpRyuqmCSVxPP&gs_ssp=eJzj4tDP1TcoiC9ONmD0EsvNTMnLTM8oUUitKChKLS5WyM0vy0wFAMQpDAI&oq=midnight+express+movie&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYADILCC4QgAQQsQMQgwEyCggAEIAEEIcCEBQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDoECC4QJzoECCMQJzoRCC4QgAQQsQMQgwEQxwEQ0QM6CwguEIAEEMcBENEDOgsIABCABBCxAxCDAToOCC4QgAQQsQMQxwEQ0QM6CwguELEDEIMBENQCOgsILhCABBDHARCvAToICC4QgAQQsQM6EQguEIAEELEDEIMBEMcBEK8BOg4ILhCABBCxAxCDARDUAjoLCC4QgAQQsQMQ1AI6CAguEIAEENQCOggIABCABBDJA1AAWKVfYLV-aABwAHgAgAHECYgB9XqSAQg1LTUuMTEuM5gBAKABAQ&sclient=gws-wiz

Hey Brittney, just think of the exotic 'tats' you can acquire while in Russian prison! And I almost forgot to mention those book deals you can sign while in there! Maybe you can buy your way out of jail if you find a corrupt judge, who knows?
To publicly and repeatedly denounce the USA then demand our nation 'drop everything' and come to your rescue is a bit... 'brattish', don't you think? It's sort of like the punk teenager who denounces his family, while simultaneously demanding food, clothing, and a 'private spa' experience.
Note 1: When you denounce your family, you denounce not only parents and siblings, but also the complete environment, such as room and board..
Note 2: When you denounce your country, you denounce not just the nation and its history, but all that it provides, such as rights and privileges.

Political issues and behavior aside, one thing that is pretty common knowledge is that some countries have pretty severe penalties for illegal drug use. There have been numerous stories about travelers getting rolled up in drug charges and facing stiff jail time in bad conditions.
How stupid and arrogant is Griner to spit in the Russian's faces and use drugs in their country?
The US usually tries, over time, to get our citizen's freed. However, the process is slow and uncertain. They should try to get Griner freed just like any other citizen. Maybe they will succeed in a year or two. Maybe Griner will go through an attitude adjustment. Maybe not. Frankly, I don't care too much. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

I posted elsewhere that Brittney Griner is entering a new stage in her life. She will soon be struck by the awesome beauty of Siberia, will learn a new language, Russian, and be given an introduction to geology. She will be able to study geologic formations big and small and using specialized tools reduced large rock specimens into usable sizes. In off hours, sampling Russian cuisine will be an experience denied her in the USA with cabbage and beets heated in spring water a new delight. Gradually her hatred of America will be tempered be acclimatizing conditions in areas still under developement by the Russian government. Brittney Griner will be an active participant in this ongoing endeavor,

So much virtue signaling over Griner, a WNBA player. It’s good to know so few have made mistakes in early adulthood but I’m not among the pure. As a young man in the mid-70s, voluntarily serving my country as a Navy Corpsman with Marines, I cast my first presidential vote for James Earl Carter, based on him being a former Naval Officer, dirt farmer, and unapologetic Christian. That was the result of my political ignorance. Even Reagan forgave me in 1980.

Someone should send her a copy of Edward Everett Hale's short story, "The Man without a Country" (and any here who have not read it should do so). If anything can cut through the fog of her indoctrination, privilege, and outright stupidity (the latter of which I think is impermeable), that would be it.

What strikes me most is the utter irony of Griner acting entitled about her drug use, then being caught, captured, and prosecuted at the very moment in history when the most ineffectual White House resident ever--Joe Biden--is supplying armaments to Russia's enemies/victims in Ukraine, has imposed sanctions on Russia, and has bad-mouthed Putin by saying, "This guy Putin has got to go." Not since the Reagan days has the USA wielded less leverage to obtain prisoner releases of Americans in Russia. Even in the Reagan days, Russia's president was Gorbachev, who was comparatively polite and friendly, contrasted with this Putin creature Russia has now. Griner's timing is beyond horrendous.
