The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has warned power consumers in Texas to conserve energy on Monday afternoon and evening because there will not be enough wind power to operate the power grid reliably in peak demand. (Tweet) Though Texas is known for its role in the oil industry, it is also the nation’s number-one producer of wind energy. During a cold snap in the winter of 2021, however, wind turbines froze and many Texans found themselves without electricity.
Now that scenario is likely to repeat itself, albeit due to high temperatures that are accompanied by calm conditions.

They didn't learn from the freezing disaster?
I would think that there would be redundant backup surplus capacity by now.

We were without electricity for a week in the winter of 2021, when temperatures were in the single digits, which was the same temperature on the inside of our homes. The Texas grid is wholly within the State of Texas. We were shocked to learn the President of ERCOT lived in Michigan, and many of the members of the Board lived out of state, including Germany. Our Governor, Greg Abbott, has done absolutely nothing to ensure this does not happen again. All that with Texas being one of the leading energy producers in the world, and these shirtless wonders won't allow it to be produced. They say we need to address climate change. Well, population increases energy uses, and they are allowing 100,000 invaders into Texas Every Month, that has to have electricity. We are governed by buffoons, and we don't seem to be able to get rid of them, by ballot or otherwise.

I thoroughly despise solar and windmills for one single reason. They are misused by Greenies and Lefty politicians to promote the delusion that hydrocarbon and nuclear are not necessary any more. That is disastrous. Wipes out whatever little contribution they are making.

Brownouts and blackouts are eventually coming to your neighborhood. Demands are increasing while supply is decreasing. Shortages of electricity are going to get much worse. The proposed Green New Deal did not receive a single vote in the U.S. Senate, but the Bidan administration is silently doing all it can to implement its policies. It's no laughing matter.

Abbott has his hands full with all the illegals crossing the border. Weening Texas off of the green energy farce while the state swims in fossil fuels is another issue that will take time. In the meantime, if you can afford to buy a whole house generator powered by Nat Gas, do that.

This country has regressed to the point of being pathetic. And not only will you freeze your a** off how about that electric car you just bought. Where are you going to charge that little puppy. The insanity of what we are witnessing is appalling. The facts about green energy are staring them in the face and they still don't get it. IT DOESN'T WORK, DO YOU GET IT YET DUMMY. Obama's new oceanfront mansion has a 2000 gallon natural gas tank under ground. He doesn't have a freakin windmill he has fossil fuel. Wake up...

The left despises AC almost as much as gas cars. If they can't shut your power off they will jack up the price so you can't afford to use it.

The solution is so simple - - - -
Build a giant fan - - and have it blow on the windmills - - whenever the wind dies down
Voila! A steady stream of electricity. If I can think of such a simple solution - - why can't the "experts"?

Why is it that the leadership of ERCOT isn't all FIRED and replaced by people who can actually provide a reliable source of electricity?
There needs to be folks getting unemployed by the dozens in that outfit.

Redundant power backup means keeping the fossil fuel generators spinning, because they can't be re-started and synced at a moment's notice. So what's the point of expensive, and failure prone windmills?

Sounds like Texas needs to plant about 100 new fourth gen nukes (and prohibit any delaying lawsuits due to a state emergency so it takes 2-3 years to put one online instead of 10-never years), spin all their coal-fired base gen back up and tell the leftards in DC to sit on it and spin. 10th amendment, Baby!

Sorry for second remark but got actual info from friend in the business. ERCOT is putting this information on their website to threaten people with blackout out so they reduce use but apparently what happens is when things run a little short, maybe enough to barely run, small fuses and breakers start getting blown and thrown making the small problem into a huge one. Exaggerating a little on the website keeps the issue from blacking out on us. I know I am shutting down for a couple of hours to do my part. Too durn hot to work right now anyway.

#4 - much like the Ted Cruz situation last winter, there is very little that Abbot can personally do. He can issue paper recommending actions to take but he has to rely on minions to execute those orders. Right now much state attention is on the invasion from the south of human detritus.
The biggest problem I have is when I write letters to my state and local reps demanding that Texas get started on a project to add 3-5 nukes to the energy grid, I get crickets for answers. Texas could build 4 nukes out in West Texas where they would bother no one.
Then you have situations like in San Antonio where they already get a large portion of it's energy from a nuke and had a contract for a portion of a second nuke already being constructed. The nuclear Luddites convinced the city leader to pay more to get out of the contract than it would have cost to stay in the project.
So it's not just the state level idiots that cannot deal with big problems. The locals are worse.

#32 is correct. Texas energy generation, or lack thereof, is the direct result of the State Legislature. They are the fools that bought into, got paid off for, installing all of the "green" initiatives (scat). Can't blane ERCOT as they have to work with/around what the legislature gave them. I had my home A/C, meter and base and water heater replaced and renegotiated my electric rate in 2017. In the process my research ERCOT was predicting these shortages as the "green" initiatives (scat) were "stealing" ( my term) money needed for maintenance and fuel for traditional generation. ERCOT saw it coming and the State Legislture fiddked as we froze and may now burn.

No 23's idea of fans could be expanded on by putting windmills on top of electric cars and trucks. As you ride around, you create your own energy. Only problem is some bridges and overpasses may be too low.
Also, you could have solar panels on the outside of cars ... like fish scales or something. Park in the sun. Call them AOC's for automatic outside currant.
