Democrats and Republicans in the Senate have begun 'serious' negotiations on finding a bipartisan solution to rising gun violence, Senator Chris Murphy confirmed on Sunday.
The Connecticut Democrat said he was 'in touch' with members of the GOP including Senators John Cornyn of Texas, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and others on both sides of the aisle in the wake of a horrific mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas where a gunman with an assault rifle killed 19 elementary school students and their two teachers.'We have continued to work throughout the weekend,' Murphy said on ABC News' This Week.

It's adding insult to grievous injury to use this unspeakably sad event as a way to forward their self-serving political agenda. I've come to basically despise most politicians.

If you are "in touch", then LISTEN. Gun control won't prevent things like this. Stop lying to people that this is a gun problem and realize that it is a people problem. Evil, rotten, drug smuggling criminal parents who are breeding a bunch of dysfunctional kids who have both hideous genetics from their criminal parents and are shown that crime is a way of life.

We all know these events will continue until the democrats get their gun control. Yes, I said it. But that's not the answer. There should be an armed teacher or school personnel in every school. That would be a good start. Most of the people doing the shooting seem to follow the exact pattern, almost like they've been trained by someone.

As someone else posted, this won't go away until they get their gun control. The criminals, who gun control does not effect, will be much safer then and can kill hundreds. Right now there are too many criminals getting shot in self-defense.

The changes in Florida were restricted gun sales to certain individuals under 21 years old and red flag law to remove weapons if person deemed a threat. There’s also the Guardian Program that allowed either volunteers or staff members or even teachers to become official guardians at the school, and they would be allowed to carry weapons or have access to a weapon locked up at school.
Florida residents value the second amendment and have not allowed these laws to impact law abiding gun owners. Murphy probably intends to pass federal national scope laws which won’t work as states would not be in control of implementing etc. it’s a state issue to resolve.

The MORE you take away our guns, the MORE you'll encourage mass shootings. All you have to do is look at Democrat cities like Chicago and their super-restrictive gun laws. These places are the most violent in America, because of this mis-guided policy,

Well, I’d suggest enforcing ALL the laws on the books as a start. Then after about 10 years see if the issue they are worried about still exists.

Pay attention patriots. Know the names of those who would disarm us.
If the age for buying guns is 21, when there is a 25 yr old shooter they will raise the age again. It never ends - like Fauci's virus.

Standard democrat playbook. Create a crisis, then provide the solution, which was the goal in creating the crisis in the first pace.
They dont want our guns to make us safer, they want them to make THEM safer.

There is gun confiscation chum in the water and the sharks are beginning to circle. Thank god for our forefathers for the #2A. It will take an amendment to the #2A to change "That shall not be infringed".

Remember by crossing the aisle to smooch with the Democrats, the wimpy Republicans and RINOS besides “doing something” are putting themselves and the Republican Party in a unique position to stumble and lose the November election. We will see what happens.

Let's not jump to conclusions - this may just be a tempest in a teapot. These "serious discussions" may just be a charade to make McConnell & Co. "look reasonable" and provide the Dems with a platform to appeal to their voter base. Republicans well know that any substantive concessions on gun rights would blow the midterms for them and never garner 60 votes in the Senate. We will see, but at this point we ought not be alarmed about the prospect of interparty "discussions", which were to be expected in the aftermath of such a horrible atrocity.

If it is a "serious" conversation, then Murphy will tell them to go to h3ll. He is not authorized to renegotiate the 2A.
I am not a gun nut and have rarely ever seen a gun up close. Understand something: this country will have a different relationship with its gvt officials, whom we USED to elect, if we do not have a robust 2A. Only fools and the ignorant do not understand this.
The left understands this too, that is why they detest the 2A. And that is why they make these pushes when the electorate is overcome with emotion.

Poster 22, I agree. The GOP risks being branded with “you don’t care about these children” if they were not “in touch” with democrats on gun reform. And I like the charade word you used —— democrats appeal to the “do something” cries of their anti-gun constituents, and Republicans play along with both sides aware there is no chance to pass a gun control bill between now and the midterms.
