It’s a slow news day about Ukraine. The US and the world wait for Poland to make a controversial peacekeeping proposal to NATO at the upcoming summit in Brussels on March 24th. The mainstream media focuses on the Ukrainian humanitarian situation in Mariupol, where the Russian army is now engaging in street fighting inside the city. The telegram chat book “Ukrainian freedom news” shows a clip of the fighting. But the internet buzz emerging today is near the capital city of Kyiv, where Ukrainian forces look to have been on the move since around March 19 against the Russian Army. I trust red state and they do say "reports" so this information is not confirmed but Ukarinian army defeating the Russian army in street type battles would not surprise me. Ukrainians have been given arms and many citizens are shooting at russian troops. this is not going well for russia. putin probably believed the war would be over by now. I have no love for either side. putin is crazy, Ukraine is corrupt.

It will be interesting to see if this turns out to be true. It appears as if the Russian army is not nearly as skilled and effective as was expected. We will eventually know the truth. Hard to sort it all out now, as in most wars.

NBC: The Kyiv counteroffensive has begun

We’ve actually heard about the Ukrainian counteroffensive around Kyiv for almost a week now. Volodymyr Zelensky and his military have pressed the argument that momentum had shifted on the battlefield, hoping to engage the West further in his national defense by demonstrating that Ukraine can not just resist the Russians but actually defeat them on the battlefield. Those efforts do appear to be paying some dividends in the last 48 hours, however. NBC’s Richard Engel reports from the government’s war room in Kyiv, noting that Ukrainian forces appear to have started to attack the bulge in the Russian line north of Kyiv with success:

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida — House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Breitbart News exclusively in an interview that House Republicans have sent dozens of “preservation notices” across the federal government to agencies and departments throughout Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration ordering them to preserve documents in anticipation of eventual subpoenas from House Republicans after the 2022 midterm elections. What’s more, McCarthy said he is tasking every House committee with fully engaging in oversight matters — rather than just running everything through the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform — broadening the use of the levers of congressional authority to engage in a massive and unprecedented effort
NATO Warns China About 'Blatant Lies,'

NATO went after both Russia and China on Wednesday, first demanding that China stop the spread of “blatant lies and misinformation,” then warning Russia to stop its “nuclear saber-rattling.” Historically, such warnings from NATO have been little more than words that have changed less than zero, and given the unpredictability of Vladimir Putin–particularly now that he’s backed into a corner of his own making and Beijing’s increasing belligerent posture during the Biden presidency–it’s hard to see, to paraphrase Hillary, what difference any of it will now make. As reported by Fox News, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters such talk of nuclear war is “dangerous” and “irresponsible.”

Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked US President Joe Biden to leave Russian-Israeli billionaire Roman Abramovich off Washington’s sanctions list in the hopes that the oligarch would be able to help mediate between Kyiv and Moscow, according to a Wednesday report. The request was made during a call between the two leaders, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The Journal said the White House had been slated to announce sanctions against Abramovich shortly thereafter, in tandem with similar penalties introduced by the EU and UK, as the West punished oligarchs

Fort Worth, Texas- A former Boeing Co. test pilot was acquitted Wednesday on felony charges of deceiving federal regulators about a key flight-control system that played a role in two deadly crashes involving 737 Max jets. A jury in federal district court in Fort Worth found Mark Forkner not guilty on four counts of wire fraud. Prosecutors accused Forkner of misleading Federal Aviation Administration regulators about the amount of training pilots would need to fly the Max. The FAA required only brief computer-based training for pilots instead of more extensive practice in simulators that could have cost Boeing penalties of up to $1 million per plane.

The Biden administration should lift its mask mandate and Covid-testing requirements for air travelers, ten CEOs of U.S. passenger and cargo airlines said in a letter released on Wednesday. The administration currently requires travelers flying into the U.S. from abroad to present a negative Covid test prior to takeoff. Additionally, the Transportation Security Administration extended a mask mandate for all public transportation, including air travel, on March 18. The mask mandate is set to expire on April 18. Signatories of the letter include American Airlines CEO W. Douglas Parker, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian, Southwest Airlines CEO Gary C. Kelly,

The depression-era comedian Will Rogers once famously said he did not belong to an organised political party because he was a Democrat. Yet today the traditional factiousness of the Democratic coalition has been engulfed by an almost Stalinist attitude that brooks no dissent on its most treasured policies – even though these do not resonate well with the bulk of the electorate. To recover, Democrats need to find a way back to their historic base of working-class and minority voters, who now seem to be heading to the GOP. Franklin D Roosevelt’s alliance between big cities, small towns, labour unions and farmers was often awkward, but it still achieved

Washington - The Supreme Court on Wednesday threw out Wisconsin state legislative maps that were preferred by the state’s Democratic governor and selected by Wisconsin’s top court. But while the justices in an unsigned opinion threw out voting maps the Wisconsin Supreme Court had selected for the State Assembly and Senate, they left in place state congressional maps. The state’s highest court selected the maps from a range of options after lawmakers couldn’t agree. Republicans had complained that Gov. Tony Evers’ maps moved too many people to increase the number of Assembly districts with a majority of Black and Hispanic voters from six to seven in violation

Moderna will seek emergency authorization for its Covid-19 vaccine in children under six, the company announced Wednesday, meaning that this age demographic will likely soon be eligible for the shot. The pharmaceutical company’s U.S. and Canadian clinical trial produced promising results, namely that two low doses provided a “robust” immune response in young kids and are safe to be administered, the company said. There were about 4,200 children subjects in the study between two and six years old and around 2,500 children between six months and two years old.

Who do voters blame for inflation, especially at the gas pumps? It’s not Vladimir Putin, and they don’t chalk it up to “corporate greed” either. A pair of new polls identify who gets the blame for inflation and how much it will occupy voters in eight months — and again two years later, Fed chair Jerome Powell suggested yesterday. We’ll get back to that projection at the end. The more significant of the polls comes from Emerson, whose polling has been a bit kinder to Joe Biden on job approval. He gets a 43/49 overall from Emerson, a slight improvement over last month’s 42/50. Among independents,

A district judge, appointed by former President Donald Trump, has blocked President Joe Biden’s so-called “sanctuary country” orders that have successfully protected millions of illegal aliens from arrest and deportation over the last year. On Tuesday, District Judge Michael J. Newman issued a preliminary injunction against Biden’s orders that prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from arresting and deporting most of the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens across the United States. The orders were imposed in September 2021 after the Biden administration was successfully sued by Texas and Louisiana for implementing similar orders at the start of last year.

Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson refused to define the word 'woman' during the fiery second day of her confirmation hearing conducted by the Senate's Judiciary Committee. Quoting late Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Blackburn said: 'Physical differences between men and women are enduring. The two sexes are not fungible. As Tuesday's Supreme Court confirmation hearing dragged into the evening hours, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) raised a simple question about when constitutional protections for life — or even just life itself — begins. When does life begin, in your opinion," Senator Kennedy asked Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for starters. "Senator... um... I don't... know," Judge Jackson replied, followed by an uneasy, awkward laugh. "Do you have a belief?" Kennedy pressed. "I have, um, personal religious and otherwise beliefs that have nothing to do with the law in terms of when life begins," Jackson responded. "Do you have a personal belief though about when life begins?" Kennedy probed.

About a third of people around the world are not now covered by early warning systems, but in Africa the problem is greater, with about six in 10 people lacking such warnings. As climate breakdown takes hold, more people are likely to be affected by extreme weather, including flash floods, heatwaves, more violent storms and coastal storm surges, made worse by sea level rises. António Guterres said it was unacceptable that so many people were still not covered by early warning systems,

Moreover, a significant number of people in the study who used marijuana for medical purposes developed cannabis use disorder, also known as marijuana addiction, the study found. The study was conducted by the Massachusetts General Hospital. “People with pain, anxiety or depression symptoms failed to report any improvements, though those with insomnia experienced improved sleep,” said the study’s lead author, Jodi Gilman, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Depression and anxiety are some of the conditions most commonly treated with marijuana.
