Madeleine Albright, the first woman to be Secretary of State, died on Wednesday from cancer at age 84. The mother of three served under President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001 and was a longtime diplomat. Albright was born in 1937 in Prague, Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1948 as a refugee in the aftermath of World War II. Her family fled to Britain in 1939 to avoid the Nazis and then the United States nearly a decade later to escape the communists' grip on Czechoslovakia.

Comments:

Known for the stupid symbolism of her brooches.

The only thing that anyone needs to remember about her is her chase down the hall in pursuit of Yasser Arafat after he walked out of a meeting with her.

When "madeline albright greatest accomplishment" googled, you get this answer: "Albright orchestrated a campaign on her own behalf that proved successful. When Albright took office as the 64th U.S. Secretary of State on January 23, 1997, she became the first female U.S. Secretary of State and the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government at the time of her appointment."

Reminds me of how Hillary Clinton supporters would list her getting elected as Senator and appointed as Secretary of State as "achievements". No. Those were opportunities to achieve something. And when you'd ask for anything she achieved WHILE in those positions, you'd get the crickets. From the original article, I gather it was much the same for Albright. RIP, but let us not overdo it.

People die every day. It doesn’t matter whether they’re over-educated and self-important jet setters or RV loving humble spirited welders. For those with an emotional attachment who are left behind, it is sad. Madeleine Albright aimed for an elite position in Washington politics and international affairs and was probably far less important to international peace than comfortable shoe manufacturers or heating and air conditioning installers. There are truly extraordinary people but I never saw any evidence that Albright was any more so than the ordinary sort that we meet in our daily lives. Why her passing deserves more attention than a beloved coach/father/mother or mentor is beyond me.

My late husband and I were professional photographers. We had the "pleasure " of taking grip and grin photos of Albright with Jr. League members. In between shots I tried to engage her in small talk; complimented her brooch, etc. She wasn't having it. Never met a more elitist, rude snob in my life.

San Francisco has been waiting to be rocked by another massive earthquake since 1906. On Tuesday night this week, it finally came when the people of America’s most famously Left-wing city voted overwhelmingly to throw out their chief prosecutor — and with him a policy of ultra-woke tolerance of crime that has brought the city to its knees. Some 60 per cent of San Franciscans voted to ‘recall’ from office Chesa Boudin, a pin-up for the ‘progressive’ Left, midway through his term as the city’s District Attorney.

Last year, the United Methodist Church accepted Isaac Simmons, who regularly preaches dressed as a drag queen under the name Ms. Penny Cost, as a candidate for ordination. Since that time, Simmons, who serves as an associate pastor at Hope United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Illinois, has challenged basic theological concepts, projecting a worldview where divinity rests not in God but in queerness. In a church preparing to split over LGBTQ issues, the drag queen pastor, who embraces queer theology while barely attempting to plaster on the basic tenets of Christian theology, has become a lightning rod. Conservatives argue that Simmons’ role as a celebrated figure

Just days after President Joe Biden’s Centers for Disease Control ordered yet another extension of the federal mask mandate, a Florida judge ruled that the agency had no authority to impose it in the first place, saying that “our system does not permit agencies to act unlawfully even in pursuit of desirable ends.” To public cheers, the TSA, Amtrak, the Washington Metro system, and other public transportation systems immediately ditched their mask requirements, even though the Biden administration is appealing the ruling in hopes overturning it. No one, it seems, trusts the CDC anymore. But all of this comes as COVID cases appear to be on the upswing.
