President Joe Biden spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping by phone on Friday and laid down the law, vowing that there will be “consequences” for the communist regime if it acts to assist Russia which is facing international condemnation after it invaded neighboring Ukraine. In the high-stakes call between the two global leaders that reportedly lasted nearly two hours, Biden put Xi on notice that making any moves to bail out Russian leader Vladimir Putin won’t be well received by the United States which along with other NATO members and major corporations that are an integral component of the “public-private partnership” have acted with unity to level harsh economic

After pressure from Maryland parents, Democrat Delegate Sheila Ruth (Baltimore) has announced that she will not longer push the bill she initially sponsored to collect information on households homeschooling their children. • Why the bill is dead: Ruth’s office has been inundated for weeks by irate parent’s calling and emailing to voice their opposition to the proposed legislation. • What she’s saying: “There’s no technical reason that I can’t withdraw the bill, but right now, given the toxic environment around this situation, the best possible outcome for everyone is for this bill to die a quiet death … Introducing the bill may have been a mistake

“He affects unselfishness, but is in reality fanatically, even maniacally, self-centered.... He is childlike in his pursuit of pleasure, but shrewd and willful in his studied neglect of responsibility. His sensibilities are exquisitely tender, and yet he has a talent for causing pain...He professes universal tolerance and sweetness to all, though is willing to put his friends through shame, fear, and harm rather than see his own comfort threatened.” No, this quote does not refer to Alec Baldwin, apt though it may seem. It is drawn from an essay about Harold Skimpole, a character in Charles Dickens’ Bleak House.

Bear with me because I may just be exhibiting exceptional stupidity that can be cured by getting good information. Thus, I’m asking a question here, not stating any answers. My question is this: How can Biden get on his high horse to order China away from helping Russia in the current Russia-Ukraine conflict when we’re going all out to help Ukraine in the same conflict? The big news from yesterday was that Biden spent two hours on a conference call with China. During the call, he warned China that things would go badly if it helped Russia.

Stelter did include a plug for Meghan Markle's new podcast on Spotify, however. Brian Stelter's newsletter ignored The NY Times Hunter Biden laptop story, which is odd as he ran segments about it being right wing disinformation," podcaster Stephen L. Miller said. (Tweet) Miller included a screenshot from one of Stelter's previous segments calling the story "disinformation."

The NY Times editorial board published a lengthy piece today titled “America Has a Free Speech Problem.” There’s a lot of both-sidesing of the issue here as you might expect but we’ll come back to that in a moment. First here’s how the piece opens. For all the tolerance and enlightenment that modern society claims, Americans are losing hold of a fundamental right as citizens of a free country: the right to speak their minds and voice their opinions in public without fear of being shamed or shunned. This social silencing, this depluralizing of America, has been evident for years, but dealing with it stirs yet more fear.
