“We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender....”- Winston Churchill
The Taiwanese, like the Ukrainians, pose no threat to their neighbors. But, like Putin, Xi Jinping denies that they have a right to co-exist as a free people. He is surely watching Putin’s efforts to measure China’s chances against Ukraine. China, though, will face unique challenges if it attacks Taiwan, in addition to meeting the same fierce local resistance Putin’s experiencing.
For two decades, Trump has been fully aware of the danger from China.

Taiwan was/is the largest investor in China. Does anyone think that the super wealthy in Taiwan would allow a war between Taiwan and China?
It was always an unwritten agreement that when China's economy was on a par with Taiwan, then Taiwan would find a way to join China, as long as they didn't lose face.

If Xi decides to invade, he'll have to contend with...Joe Biden. By the time his handlers wake the pResident up, China's bombardment will have pulverized Taiwan's defenses.

Does anyone remember the intel articles of the early 80's when Israel, apartheid South Africa and Taiwan were jointly building a stockpile of nukes? If true, and knowing how the Chicoms have brutalized politicians and freedom protesters in Hong Kong, are these weapons of last resort on a heinous tyranny?

I fear American deployment under any demorat control, and especially when the cancerous Wokeism has been injected so thoroughly into the military. My worst fear is a Wokeist officer corps, there because of political reliability alone, will throw away the best and brightest under them in ill advised, blissfully ignorant lost cause actions against their chicomm owners.

Now the big advantage Russia had with Ukraine is that common border.
If the Chicoms want to mount an amphibious invasion across the 105 miles of the Taiwan Strait that means Assault ships to carry troops, tanks & artillery. Right now, according to the latest info, they don't have enough to carry the 10,000s of troops needed.
Satellites would reveal any build up of naval forces along with troops & equipment loading on the China coasts.
Once they streamed out the surprise is gone.
If you want to defeat such an invasion your primary targets are the troop ships which will be easy to ID.
Sink them. Cripple them. Burn them.
Without the troops,in their sardine cans, the invasion is defeated before they land.
Same situation for airborne you target the troop planes.
Taiwan's military has been preparing for this one enemy for decades & are highly trained, armed & equipped.
Anyone of his military advisors that tells Xi what Putin's told him about Ukraine is either a liar or a fool.
Hopefully they are neither & Xi isn't stupid with an ego.

"Never underestimate your enemy" - Sun Tzu - they literally wrote the book.
Putin should have read it.

The straits of Taiwan are not China's biggest problem. Taiwan is simply too powerful economically and politically. I wouldn't be surprised if Taiwan and South Korea for that matter have secretly gone nuclear. And the Chinese know it. China's best chance is to cause a breakdown of will among the Taiwanese. That doesn't seem to be realistic.

Xi has managed to screw up the Chinese economy, even after taking back HK. So he is looking to steal another economy and still keep an iron grip on China's. He is also looking ahead by investing in several nations in Africa. Several have long term loans China knows won't be repaid so they can steal the valuable resources in return for repayment. China is all about stealing, and they have lost the art of building anything that will last.
All well and good regarding China letting their economy become like Taiwan's and the rest of the world. But because they have such a tight grip on their population, it is never going to happen. So they have to steal to survive. I think they are salivating just thinking about the riches just off shore. Plus it is going to hurt us as well with our own investments and other interests there.

Forewarned is forearmed!
The Taiwanese are smart enough to see what is going on as well. They know they will have to fight or end up like Hong Kong ... slowly swallowed by the python.
One big difference between them and the Ukraine is that the Taiwanese will hit back at the mainland with its strong and better manned air force --- up to and including bombing major cities in retaliation, including Beijing. Notice how that has not happened in the Ukraine situation. The Ukes have not counter-attacked.

What's China's rush to invade Taiwan? Anyone?
China will do what China does. It will wait until the times are right to negotiate an annexation, likely with special arrangement, such as in Macao and Hong Kong. The Taiwanese are China's largest investor and a major trade partner...logic dictates destroying the golden goose. Well, doesn't it?

My contacts in Taiwan are on their guard, but practical and not too fearful. They will fight, and they have strong allies with India, Japan, South Korea and Australia, and the PRC is in trouble.
This is another fight that the US should stay out of.
