As the war in Ukraine grinds on, most Russians are unaware of what is really happening amid a new crackdown by President Vladimir Putin on the few remaining independent media outlets. On Friday morning, Russian lawmakers passed a law introducing jail terms for anyone who publishes so-called fake information about the country's armed forces.
The law carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison for journalists or other people who spread military information that the Kremlin deems to be untrue. At least two independent media outlets have been taken off the air this week after officials accused them of reporting false information, which means basically anything that is not being published by official Russian sources.
Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk called on the United States to increase its domestic oil output in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while also acknowledging that his electric car company would be negatively affected by that move.

Debra Lekanoff from Skagit County, would create an early alert system that would distribute information about the missing person, similar to a Silver Alert.

Under a Florida bill passed by the Senate, state agencies would be unable to start, continue, or renew contracts to work with companies that are found to transport undocumented workers to Florida. Senate Bill 1808 passed on partisan lines and heads to the Florida House for approval.

The governor touted his fight against a range of COVID-19 mitigation tactics used widely across the nation — namely lock-downs, mask mandates, and vaccine requirements.

Two members of security staff were injured when a projectile hit overnight after officials reported fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces at the plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, early on Friday morning.

The smoke rising over Kyiv reminds us that the international order is subject to nonconsensual revision, and that the revisionists most likely to mount a violent challenge are nationalist dictatorships with a sense of grievance. I am less concerned about Vladimir Putin, however, than I am about a despot equally unaccountable, who rules a stronger country, and whose opposition to the West is more fundamental. I am thinking of Xi Jinping.
Some say he holds more power than any Chinese ruler since Mao Zedong, though he’s arguably more powerful even than Mao. Though he hasn’t established as strong a personality cult, he is equally skilled at cowing or eliminating potential rivals,
I love my country. But I have a problem with the current occupants. Americans are fat, fatuous, failing and flailing.
Let’s look at some evidence. A serious people:
*Would not imagine for even a second that the way to reduce crime is to defund the police.
*Would not seriously contend that the way to reduce inflation – a natural effect of too much money in circulation chasing too few goods – is to increase even further the amount of money in circulation.
*Would not allow biological and even anatomical men to beat women in women’s athletics simply because those men say they feel womanly at the moment.

On Thursday, Pompeo publicly declared that the U.S. government should take the “long-overdue” step and recognize the freedom of Taiwan.
“It is my view that the U.S. government should immediately take necessary, and long-overdue, steps to do the right and obvious thing, that is to offer the Republic of China (Taiwan) America’s diplomatic recognition as a free and sovereign country,” Pompeo said in a statement.

Constitutional carry legislation passed the Ohio House on Tuesday, had an amendment approved by the state Senate on Wednesday, and is now headed to Gov. Mike DeWine’s (R) desk.

The amendment preserve’s the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association’s neutral stance on the move from a permit requirement to a no-permit requirement for carrying a gun for self-defense.
