Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk called on the United States to increase its domestic oil output in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while also acknowledging that his electric car company would be negatively affected by that move.
"Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately," Musk tweeted Friday. "Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures." Musk added, "Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports." The Biden administration has faced increased criticism from both sides of the aisle in recent days for not doing more to focus on American energy production

Pelosi and McConnell make more money buying oil from Russia. Besides, they don't want to seem to be as smart as President Trump.

There is something about Mr Musk and the way he comports himself.
To me, he comes across as an eccentric genius who is comfortable in his world view and with who he is. He doesn’t make stuff up as he goes.
Contrast to Billy Bob Gates. Who, I’m thinking is STILL the insecure dweeb in first grade and now adopts “progressive” thought to be part of the In Crowd.
Give me Elon any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Mr. Musk is a thinker, a leader, not some rabid ideological idiot clinging to group think. Of course, he’s right about this and I hope he keeps speaking out.

Andrew Mark Miller isn't too very smart, methinks. FTA: "increase in US oil, gas production to combat Russia despite negative effect on Tesla". In the first place without an increase in production here, the American economy will continue to suffer and perhaps become much worse, then no-one will be able to afford a Tesla. So a boost in production of Gas and Oil would be very good for Tesla.

#3, as I understand it, Musk is on the autism spectrum. Some of the people who are on the spectrum are brilliant.
I think that Musk realizes that there is only a certain segment of society which is interested in electric cars and it’s a small segment. He also knows that, without oil, producing electric cars becomes much more difficult. He’s a realist, but he’s also keeping an eye on his own wallet.

I'm sure a Tesla has plastic content. So higher priced and scarcer oil would have some effect. Not to mention potential customers ability to earn enough money to buy one. Simplistic explanations seldom work.

Elon, please, please, please….set up a meeting with Little Red Lying Hood and explain the undeniable fact that it will be years before we can transition to cleaner fuels. Right now we need oil and lots of it!

How precious...the billionaire thinks domestic oil production can be turned on and off like a water faucet.
Meanwhile, Keystone remains cancelled (830,000 bopd), and Biden's choking limits on domestic O&G development remain unchanged.
As a sideline, Musk's recommendation also highlights the point that the enormous quantities of electricity needed for a nationwide fleet of electric vehicles will not come from renewable sources...but can only come from oil, natgas, and coal.

Even if people could afford electric cars, an electrical grid that failed in the winter of 2020, is not going to be up to the task of charging thousands of additional electric cars w/o natural gas and oil generated power.

Electricity is a form of energy not a "source" of energy. The energy needs to come from somewhere and no amount of solar or wind farms can ever provide more than a fraction of what is needed.

#7 is correct, Tesla will not be affected one way or the other. Tesla buyers are people like AOC, making too much money on too little intelligence and desperately wanting to fit in with the the hip and the cool. The customer saturation point may have already been reached. If we started today, the infrastructure to support EVs would take at least twenty years to build and by then other technology will have been developed and EVs will be obsolete.
