More than half of young American adults are either overweight or obese, according to new Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine research. In a study published last month in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), a team analyzed a nationally representative sample of 8,015 nonpregnant people ages 18 to 25 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. (Snip) Fifty-six percent of those in that age group are considered to be either overweight or obese and the number of overweight young adults rose from approximately 18% in the late 1970s to nearly 24% in 2018.

Comments:

Various health organizations keep pointing out the problem but far too few are willing to listen, or change their behavior.

And teenagers and even older parents. Black, white, brown. All too much fat to be healthy. I don’t believe in the bony thin “social X-rays who used to grace Vogue’s pages, but this extreme is terribly unhealthy. Most of us feel much better in and about ourselves when we are in a midrange appropriate for our height.

What they fail to mention is the GMOs placed in nearly all of our food. Yes, a large portion of why obesity has soared is poor diet and lack of exercise but our food has been completely altered.

Look around.....yes, young people are FAT. How many women between 20 and 35 aren't at least 50 lbs overweight, just to look at them? My bet is that the young ladies that are near normal weight are about 1/3. This became extremely obvious when I started traveling in Russia, Ukraine and other former soviet states, where women were about 95% normal weight in the 20-40 age group. It's normal to gain weight as we age, but in young people....sad to see.

Obesity is a huge risk factor with the Wuhan virus. Some preliminary studies show that the virus is enhanced by several of the things that your body does when obese. One friend with much family in NJ near NYC had something like 15 family members get Wuhan flu in 2020. All recovered well except one who my friend tells me was quite obese.

What amazes me is how so many people without weight problems assume they know why someone is overweight. A simple 'diet and exercise' is their haughty response. That means you assume everyone is exactly the same, their health is exactly the same, their bodies are exactly alike and while regular activity keeps them perfect (and they think they are) regular activity and normal eating may not work for everyone. Most overweight people I've worked with, and yes I am too, are as busy as anyone. We work 40 hour weeks, we raise children, we do housework, we do yard work, we took kids where they needed to go. I never had time to sit around watching TV and eating cookies. I do, tho, have the cure for drug addicts and alcoholics - don't buy the stuff. There, cured you.

Back in the early '90s my supervisor used to rant about what "they" were doing to our food supply. She was convinced kids were getting fatter due to hormones used in the chickens that McDonald's used for their McNuggets. She had theories about other food additives making us fat and that the gov't and food industry were in cahoots to get us to eat more sugar. Back then her theories sounded crazy to me, they no longer seem too far-fetched.

Right on #23. Eating fat doesn't make you fat. Eating carbs, which are chains of sugar molecules, and then lounging around watching TV will convert all that unused quick energy to fat. Schools meals are all about low fat, but substitute carbs for consistency. Low fat milk is an example. It is far higher in carbs than whole milk. I'm not sure what the people in France and Germany are like now, but in the day, they would eat all natural foods such a sauces made with whole milk, real butter, etc. and were not fat. One would think we could figure that out in this country.

Sorry but that much fat is primarily on the lardbutts themselves. Genes make it tougher to lose but that’s no excuse for someone 200 lbs overweight. It’s mostly white trash and black women who are like this but it’s not a disease. You can cure it. Quit eating high calorie junk food. Apparently none of them know how to cook anymore so the evening decision is will it be pizza, fried chicken, McDonalds or loaded tacos. Sorry about the rant but a good friend’s daughter (350 lbs) just died at age 50.

I have long been of the mind that the obesity numbers began rising when they started putting soy in everything and switching from real sugar to high fructose corn syrup. Soy has pseudoestrogens that act on a person’s hormones…which regulate metabolism. I think when people switch to an all natural “organic” diet they bypass a lot of that and thats why you see them lose weight… otw it is near impossible to avoid it as its added to practically everything. ai particularly despise soy. It is a Cinese product and is not a good thing for the human diet.
