And Lost Profits

As looting continues and lockdowns return, many retail companies have announced recently that they are shuttering some locations that have become simply too expensive to maintain.Major cities have been hit by a wave of “smash-and-grab” robberies, where organized groups of looters attack store employees and escape with thousands of dollars in merchandise. Organized retail theft now costs retailers across the country a grand total of about $65 billion per year.Meanwhile, some areas announced this month that they are again implementing stricter COVID restrictions, including mask and vaccine mandates,

I'm tired of the lame excuses of the progressives. These people are criminals with no moral bearing. They are thieves stealing what does not belong to them. They are not taking baby formula and bread. They are brazen, unafraid, and dare you to intervene in their robbery. And now it's time to talk about the elephant in the room. How many of these thieves are people of color? And when Kroger or CVS decides to close a store whom does it hurt? The people in their neighborhoods, mostly people of color, who can no longer pick up groceries or their medications. Will someone, somewhere, please address this issue of black on black crime? Not just the killing of each other over small infractions but the raping of their neighborhoods making it harder for them to get their basic necessities. Not only are they losing places to shop but also places of employment. Covid has nothing to do with this criminal behavior. These people no doubt were criminals before covid and will no doubt remain criminals after covid as long as they are allowed to continue this behavior. What the hell is wrong with the people who allow this?

Not good news. I have to take lots of prescription drugs. If the drug stores close I have to order online and hope the Post Office delivers the stuff to me. All of this could be stopped if these looters were gunned down during their crime.

There is a consequence to so much piling on all the leftist political offal, that society may collapse under all that weight. What comes next wouldn’t be pretty, but there can be a hope of new beginnings minus the leftism.

After the politicians make poor policy decision after poor policy decision, they appear surprised at the obvious results of their poor choices. But who do they blame? They blame the citizens and those "evil" corporations for trying to protect their best interests from the politicians poor judgement and policy choices.

I recall most of those stores being on the BLM donor list. Maybe when black adults run out of places to shop they will point to their own children who are doing all of the shoplifting.

A real Department of Justice under the direction of a competent and ethical Attorney General would by now have the smash and grab thugs under control and incarcerated without bail by use of RICO enforcement and full law enforcement at all levels of government. That would invclude prosecution of all Soros installed.district attorneys. But all we have is a Brandon regime puppet that has no honor or decency for the AG office that he occupies.

Do you ever feel like a purple unicorn in this world? I can’t imagine in my wildest dream going into a store and taking whatever I want. Who does this? It appears that a portion of the black community has had a cultural or moral breakdown. Even if I felt oppressed I would not resort to this kind of behavior because I know it is wrong. This is about having a moral compass and understanding the difference between right and wrong. When any group of people abandon this truth, chaos ensues and if not checked, society collapses. There is no justification for many of the adverse situations we witness today, but it all begins and ends with rejection of basic Judeo-Christian values. We are descending into a Mad Max world wherein there is no law and order and I do not wish to live in that world and shudder to think what may grandchildren will face. You have to want a better world for your children and that change must come within the black community. All we can do as a society is uphold law and order to ensure the safety of the rest of us. We cannot permit a portion of the country to descend into anarchy and believe it won’t affect our lives. It will, it always does eventually.

#2 response could be a scary outcome. If we have to rely on the Fed's to deliver our goods, what happens when they don't/won't deliver what we need? The Fed's could mandate to FedEx and UPS to quit delivering certain goods. What makes anyone think the Fed's won't try to control our consumption? FBJ

The opening paragraph left out one key word - “black”, as in organized groups of black looters. I have yet to see a video of a smash and grab which included any white looters and I have a feeling that if any whites tried to join in, they would get beaten to a pulp. I live in Charleston, SC - a bluish city (thanks to all of the New Yorkers moving here) in a red state. Blacks and whites get along just fine here and the only incident we had was about 2 hours of breaking windows downtown when the Floyd incident hit the news. Nothing since. I live off of a main thoroughfare which, along a 9 mile stretch, has 3 CVS pharmacies, all of which are doing just fine. Bottom line - you get what you vote for and what you are willing to put up with. And I completely agree with #2 - we need to get back to a time when looters were shot on sight.

The grocery stores had to close in arears where shoplifting was bad now commercial retail is getting looted by the same crowd in the black areas. When all these places become 'deserts' they won't be able to complain, it's all on them. What will start happening are robberies of FedEx and UPS trucks where all the goods are delivered. Like old stagecoach and Brink's truck robberies it will never end when there is no law or the blacks' fearing consequences for stealing or murdering. It's the new chosen special race just watch television commercials of woke products that are peddled. MAGA

After one cup of coffee I've had a revelation. The answer for San Fran lies right out there in the bay, Alcatraz Island. Ship the looters out there and they can steal all of the rocks they like. The city won't miss them a bit and the stores can remain open.

#25, the truck looting is already happening in NY metro. Amazon delivery drivers work for contracting companies and they are on their own for their safety. If they don't deliver, they lose their jobs even if in danger. (See the drivers caught in the recent tornado.) Same for FedX Ground. UPS is better.

#24 makes a good point. Sadly, it takes a VERY long time to recover. Detroit is doing better, very well indeed in some pockets of recovery. There have been tremendous efforts to improve life in the city, but suburbanites in general do not need to go there, nor are they interested in doing so. Some entertainment areas are great, with well-attended performances and sporting events. But otherwise? Nope. Since the riots in 1968 (some 53 years ago now), the city is not the same as it was before them. It may never recover, at least not fully. These cities allowing such widespread criminal behavior are committing a form of suicide, sadly.

President Joe Biden on Monday admitted that his administration has not done enough to ease the COVID testing demand, vowing to do better. 'That's not enough. Clearly not enough,' Biden said, adding: 'We have to do more. We have to do better. And we will.' Biden told the governors - a mix of Republicans and Democrats - that there was 'no federal solution' to the Omicron variant causing cases to spike around the country, saying the solution was solidly on 'state level.'

A CNN panelist claimed that a father of four, who tagged a phone call with President Joe Biden with the phrase “Let’s Go, Brandon,” was not only being impolite but also harboring feelings “about insurrection.” Ron Brownstein, a senior editor at The Atlantic, joined a CNN panel to discuss a phone call between Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, and an Oregon father Jared Schmeck who ended his live-streamed phone call with a less vulgar substitute for “f*** Joe Biden.” The CNN host dubbed the interaction between Schmeck and the Bidens “disrespectful,” “juvenile” and “reprehensible.” He also asked Brownstein for his opinion on the matter.

The criminal insanity in LA continues, this time at a Rite-Aid. There, a woman wielding a pickaxe yelled at customers and robbed the store, using the mining tool as a weapon. Watch her here: [video] As you can watch in the video, the deranged woman drags the basket full of goods she presumably intends to steal across the floor of the establishment, wielding the pickaxe as she does so. Also, some of her comments are audible. For example, at one point she says “I’m not f*****g around,” to an employee who attempts to get her to stop as she grabs at the beauty projects she’s stealing,

An energy company is pulling the plug on a controversial plan to install natural gas turbines at a power plant in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The proposal had come under criticism as a step backward while the state government attempts to phase out fossil fuels and switch to clean sources of energy. Eastern Generation said it was withdrawing its application to replace combustion turbines at the Gowanus site—considered to be among the dirtiest power plants in the city—with natural gas units.(Snip)“With the defeat of fossil-fuel power plant expansions in Gowanus and Astoria, New York City is on its way towards a more sustainable future,” he said.

A poll released Monday shows powerful Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell hemorrhaging GOP support, less than a year until the 2022 midterm elections. McConnell came in dead last in Gallup's new survey ranking 11 federal officials by their job approval ratings. His 34 percent public approval is lower than that of President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But while the three top Democrats in government found majority support among their own party's voters, the Kentucky Republican is trailing in the GOP sphere. Just 46 percent of McConnell's fellow Republicans approve of his job in the Senate, while a decisive 52-point majority disapprove.
The Texas vs. California Challenge 20 replies

Leaving California for Texas is such a conformist thing to do these days, but I did for a short vacation to America. In Houston, I went into an H.E.B. and was talking about California to someone who was giving away free samples of beef – having conversations with random people is a huge difference from LA – and I had to reassure the guy I was going home. He seemed relieved. I’ve been coming to Texas intermittently for about 30 years, and it’s never seemed more crowded. The place is packed – the roads, the stores, the airport. Back home in LA, it’s empty and depressing
What is "obscene" wealth? 19 replies

According to a friend at a Christmas party, “obscene” wealth is the kind that’s unneeded. His example was a 100-foot yacht. “Nobody needs a 100-foot yacht,” he intoned. I agreed that nobody needs a 100-foot yacht. But nobody needs a glass of expensive chardonnay either. I kindly offered to relieve him of the one he was holding. The only things that are truly needed by humans are food, shelter, simple clothing and occasional medical treatment. Everything beyond that is unneeded and, therefore, under my friend’s definition, obscene. So “obscene” wealth must mean something other than the unneeded kind. But what? For guidance in defining obscenity, let’s look at sex

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene denounced Kwanzaa as a “fake religion” just as millions of Black people start to celebrate the weeklong holiday. The far-right Georgia lawmaker berated the national College Republicans for “pandering and BS” after the GOP group tweeted a seemingly innocuous happy holiday message. “Stop. It’s a fake religion created by a psychopath,” Greene said. “People are tired of pandering and BS.” She was apparently deriding Kwanzaa founder Prof. Maulana Karenga, who was convicted of felony assault in the 1960s in what he says was a politically motivated prosecution spurred by his involvement in Black nationalist politics. Greene suggested that the College Republicans should avoid political correctness
