Realtor.com has removed crime data from its website, and Redfin has decided not to add it out of concerns that it could perpetuate racial inequity.
David Doctorow, the CEO of Realtor.com, said in a company update this week that the crime map layer has been removed from all search results on the website “to rethink the safety information we share on Realtor.com and how we can best integrate it as part of a consumer’s home search experience.” (Snip) what safety means to buyers and renters so that it can “reimagine how we integrate safety data” on the platform. Realtor.com has been collaborating with fair housing advocates as part of the initiative.

I just want to make sure my new house has a Master Bed and Bath. A Butler's pantry. AND not be in any town/city with a MLK Blvd.

# 1 You're not allowed to say " master " bedroom . According to the left it connotes slavery.

As if buyers won't know this already? Buying next to a used tire or a 'checks cashed' store might be a clue. Or a neighborhood where men are hanging around street corners NOT waiting for a bus could be a sign of risk potential - just my opinion.

The facts are too obvious for them to put up with any longer. The facts show that one racial group is responsible for 65% of murders, and if you don't want to live next door or just down the street from a violent felon.....you may want to avoid certain 'ethnic' neighborhoods.
And....GEE, perhaps this is the REAL reason that property values in certain areas are far lower than in other areas. One ethnic group doing most of the crime, and that makes people not want to live near them. And if that HAPPENS to coincide with race, it turns out the choices to live elsewhere aren't directly choices about race, but about crime. And the REAL problem that that ethnic group has isn't "racists won't live near us", it's actually "I don't want to live in a high crime neighborhood where my kids or I might be robbed or murdered on any given day".
Surprise. "Redlining" isn't about race, it's about crime......but, unfortunately, one group is doing most of the violent crime, so there is an indirect correlation.
People aren't much racists, but they sure are pretty much all "crime-ists"....in wanting to avoid it.

Well, if we can no longer access data on crime rates in neighborhoods, I guess all we can do is fall back on community demographics like percent of population that is each of the various races. It turns out that is a pretty good surrogate for crime statistics.

If you are relocating don't worry about what the Realtor knows about crime just research the state and city. Blue state, bad, then if the city has MLK Blvd. George Floyd statues, murals, all black governments like mayors, chief of police, firechief, city council you can bet there's crime there. MAGA

So Realtor.com is discriminating against minorities that want to move out of high crime areas.

Upon seeing a sign that says Exit 70 MLK Blvd, take exit 85 or speed up and keep driving.. Apparently this "crime" thing is working its way into the good neighborhoods.

So it is OK to deliberately hold back information about criminal activity in the area of interest. Here is an opportunity for someone to put up a database with this information from FLETC if it has the right ststistics.

#2 I looked at new floor plan brochures for a new tract of homes being built, and Master Bedroom has been replaced with Owners Bedroom. The term Master Bedroom goes back to the days of buying a new home kit from the Sears catalog. It had nothing at all to do with slavery.

Sure, just let people pay 1/2 million bucks for a house in some crime ridden area...then they need to spend more for bullet proof windows, steel entry doors, and security systems...stupid...r

You cannot always tell if crime is a problem by driving through an area. Since 'wokeism' took hold, many of those carefully maintained, well-shaded neighborhoods could be a fresh target for criminals. It may look like Georgetown but have crime stats more on par with Ft Apache The Bronx.

I don't understand. What "race" benefits when real estate companies choose to withhold government crime statistics from potential buyers?
What "race" are they trying to reach with this patronizing message? ALL buyers are entitled to information about contaminated wells, asbestos in floors, roofing and insulation, lead based paint, and other indoor/outdoor/environmental threats to the buyer. Information about crime is also in the best interest of the buyer.

Sounds like Realtor.com just became worthless and a new, honest, website can step in the vacuum.

Isn't it pretty racist to associate crime with race? Sounds like Redfin and Realtor.com assume a specific race is tied to crime.
