The number of container ships stuck off the coast of Southern California reached new records on Tuesday. According to data from the Marine Exchange, a total of 111 container ships are bobbing at sea around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, waiting to dock and unload. That breaks the previous record of 108 vessels reported on October 21. The two ports remain clogged despite efforts to speed up the processing of containers amid a surge in consumer demand for goods. The White House announced a shift to an around-the-clock schedule in October and a new looming threat of

Government IS the problem here. Due to overregulation and protections for the Unions, not enough trucks are available to move product. Democrats Ruin they don't rule.

All that Chinese junk....just floating around out there...was in my local supermarket the other day and their 'misc' aisle was overflowing with Christmas items...all made in China...
Is anything still Made in America?

Simple solution: let Uber run trucks to the ports.
Oops, that won't work: Uber and all gig economy employment is banned in California -- unless we undo the ban . . .

Biden and his corrupt, inept administration clearly have no interest or capability to begin to resolve this issue, primarily because it would require them to face down the unions and Leftist California politicians. I would hope that the financial costs and penalties are beginning to get so severe that it will be economically advantageous for shipping companies to move traffic and cargo to alternate ports on the East Coast. #shipsandshipping #ports #shipping #administration #containershipping #transportation #cargoshipping

As I understand from several reports on the situation, California ports are so inefficient that they are like third world ports. Also, California will not let trucks that do not meet very ridged pollution standards to enter the ports nor drivers who have not had the Covid vaccine. This was estimated to reduce the trucks and drives by 50%. Even then, truck drivers are having to wait hours to get a container loaded on their trailers. Truck drivers say that the crews moving the containers from the ships to the trucks. Some say that these crews are under staffed. And, warehouses are closed third shift preventing the truck drivers from delivering their loads.
So far, none of these problems have been resolved.

Lots of issues here, and one is lack of land to put all of the containers.
Few are moving to inland destinations despite the port trying to increase that number from 25% to 35%, which is part of their "green" program.
The carriers would prefer their equipment remain closer to the port.
If a trucker is unable to return the empty container to the terminal, or some off-site location, then they pile up in their truck yards or neighborhoods.
Most of the large box-store supply chain programs were designed to include the extensive "free" time they negotiate with the carriers for both on-dock and off-dock.
Empty containers are being stacked everywhere they can find a vacant lot or location.
Not sure the Port of Los Angeles has actually opened 24/7 yet either.
The longshoreman contract expires next year, and they believe they are in a prime position for massive increase in pay(already highest in the country) and new hires.
Yet, the case for automation may become the solution which won't sit well with the ILWU.

It's only 8 sailing days from California to Florida, via the Panama canal. Florida's ports are open for business, and could take the pressure off of vendors waiting for the goods to be delivered. If we can't beat these tyrants head-on, go around them.

Those fines will "simply get passed onto beneficial cargo owners who will begrudgingly accept that their rates have gone up,"
And who pays?
The consumer.

Traitor Joe, making everything worse the more he tries to "fix it".
And it appears that the root cause are California work and environmental laws which put serious restrictions on trucks and truck drivers.
California's fault, from what has been available online. And likely the unions are not helping things. Most of the time union rules pour sand in the gears of efficient work.

This seems just another demorat screw up, but although I wouldn't cry if every container ship from China were to go back there still loaded, I expect chief CCP tool Winnie the PooPoo to get on the phone to Resident Eeyore any day now and crack the whip because this is costing the ChiComms Billion$.
