New Yorkers reject expanded voting access

New York - Amid an array of discouraging election results for Democrats last week, there was one under-the-radar outcome that was especially perplexing. In New York, one of the country’s most progressive states, voters overwhelmingly rejected initiatives that would have expanded voting access in future elections. The vote, which came in a year when Republican-led states have passed dozens of laws to restrict voting access, left voting rights advocates stunned. (Snip) None of the measures came anywhere close to passing. Republicans waged a well-funded and aggressive campaign to oppose the amendments, a move that caught supporters of the proposal off

Comments:

Media is befuddled that voters do not want Expanded Cheating Access.

This alleged article is written to convince the reader that efforts to make vote-cheating difficult are not OK. What is wrong with going to the poll to cast your vote?

The Guardian tried to shame New York by lumping it with conservative states. Did anyone else notice that? I don't understand why people think it is hard to vote. I have been doing so since I was legally allowed to cast a ballot, my first election being the Illinois Primary of 1988. I registered when I was supposed to. I've changed registration when I've needed to due to a move. I showed up when I was supposed to. I followed the rules when I was out of town on election day. Voting is not difficult -- if you care and take your rights seriously. Why should it be made super easy for folks who don't give a damn?

Ok...... so what was the count? The article claims that up to 13% of the ballots were blank, but that's the only number that I saw. I followed the link and I can see lots of blanks for every race.

FYI: Same Day voting registration was defeated with 58% No. No Excuse Absentee voting was 56% No. Another initiative that would have tampered with redistricting numbers (including counting incarcerated felons) lost with 56% No .

Wow some good news today. I would hope that will quiet Chuck Schumer's push for a Federal election takeover since HIS constituents aren't for it in HIS state. Now, wonder what would happen if they put an initiative on the NY ballot to ensure the voter registration rolls are clear of the dead, those in mental institutions and nursing care facilities who don't have the capacity to make decisions any longer, those who have moved and those who are incarcerated. Not hard with today's technology, and you could cut-off registration 30 days prior to an election (including any early voting time, so could end up being 45-60 days prior to the official election date). This would provide ample time for election officials to review and confirm the data being submitted. Might even prevent that "move" from one state to another simply to vote, then return scheme. And, what about being considered a citizen of a particular state? When does that begin? After all, it usually takes 1 year before someone can qualify for in-state tuition, right? This would seem a de-facto qualifier of when you become a citizen of a particular state.

FTA: "Republicans waged a well-funded and aggressive campaign" Yup - - the Pubbies who control 0.0001% of the NY State political power structure - - and who have been feckless fools for at least three generations - - suddenly found the will, the money, and the smarts to wage an "aggressive campaign" - - which no one has yet to notice. No - - it couldn't be that even the deluded leftist NY electorate found the proposals execrable. It had to be the fault of those "aggressive" Pubbies.

HELENA, Mont. — A new map dividing Montana into two congressional districts for the first time in decades was finalized Tuesday, triggering disappointment from Democrats who hoped to craft a different western district that would give them a better chance of winning in an increasingly Republican-dominated state. (Snip) In a bitterly disputed process that played out over several months, Democrats managed to keep liberal college towns Missoula and Bozeman in the western district, but lost the state capital of Helena to the solidly red eastern district. The final map was proposed by Republicans on the bipartisan redistricting commission and selected by

Monitoring systems to stop drunk drivers would roll out in all new vehicles as early as 2026, according to the new legislation.
