Longtime NJ Senate president concedes
to GOP truck driver Ed Durr

New Jersey state Senate President Steve Sweeney conceded Wednesday to Republican candidate and commercial truck driver Edward Durr, who spent only $153 on his primary campaign. "The results of Tuesday’s election are in, all votes have been fairly counted, and I, of course, accept the results," Sweeney said during a press conference at the statehouse. "I want to congratulate Mr. Durr and wish him the best of luck," added Sweeney, who has served as New Jersey state Senate president since 2010. When asked "what happened" to upend the race in the state's 3rd Legislative District, Sweeney replied, "It was a red wave."

Comments:

Finally, the Dem has conceded.

I finally saw a unicorn. Like Monica's boyfriend's wife, they weren't ready for the unexpected. This news will be the last mention of a tactical mistake they won't repeat. That guy who 'found' those 12,000 votes left town and no one has heard from him. Shouldn't the 'mystery' of 12,000 fake votes be fully investigated? Perhaps the mere mention of such an idea made someone sit Sweeney down and told him what to do.

#1 Bingo! Sweeney found 12,000 votes and we need to see them. And count them. And identify the inkjet printer and the kitchen where they were created. You at least have to ask Sweeney: What about the missing 12K?? Did ya lie about em? Or are they disenfranchised.

One interesting tidbit picked up on Mr. Durr. The primary reason he ran was because he was denied a NJ concealed carry permit. The really cool thing about that it that it is highly likely that the Supreme Court will overturn all state discretionary 'may issue' concealed carry permitting systems with the NY case and require simple, objective standards 'shall issue' concealed carry laws in all states. Mr. Durr may get to help write NJ's new concealed carry permit law next year. Big Grin.

In covering the motions hearing last week in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, I noted a surprising comment from Judge Bruce Schroeder that he had "spent hours" with the Wisconsin gun law and could not state with certainty what it means in this case. The statement could effectively knock out the misdemeanor gun possession count – the one count that could still be in play for the jury after the prosecution's case on the more serious offense appeared to collapse in court. A close examination of that provision reveals ample reason to question not just its meaning but its application to this case.

As we finish 18 months of COVID-19 pandemic, what will we see in the next six months? There will be a massive push to get everyone vaccinated with more battles and punishments for noncompliance. Government, public health authorities, the media, and big pharma will lead the charge. Experimental vaccination will be pushed because those in power can feel their narrative of fear slipping away and they don't have much time left to push the vaccines. People are beginning to realize that COVID-19 is not extremely dangerous to the healthy below age 70. Cases and deaths are going down in spite of attempts to inflate cases with faulty tests

There has been a great deal of discussion of the widespread Republican victories last week, many of them belaboring the obvious. Fundamentally, the United States is a political society based on personal freedom, a free market, and on democratically legislated and responsibly enforced laws. The current administration’s belief in virtually unrestricted immigration, higher taxes, authoritarian regulation—including COVID vaccine mandates, and a heavy redistribution of wealth from those who have earned it to those who have not—are all antagonistic to the ethos that the United States has had for all of its history. In the circumstances, some sort of reversal was almost inevitable and is the off-year American electoral custom.

Even as a full-grown adult with adult children, I still like cartoons. As I was raising my two sons, I made it a point to usually keep only one TV in the house. If video games were being played, or cartoons being watched, it was always a family affair — and intentionally designed as such. The idea was to compel negotiation, compromise, and good behavior all around. Any fighting over what to watch or play immediately resulted in no one watching or playing anything. Kids like to play and watch, so they naturally figured out how mostly not to fight about these things.

"It’s a tool that the governor is using to try to help slow down, curb this invasion, this invasion that we’re seeing at our southern border," said Nehls. Nehls described the border wall construction as a "defensive position" to "channel" migrants into areas with larger law enforcement and Border Patrol presences.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court will take up arguably the oldest and most controversial right in our history. New York State Rifle Association v. Bruen is the first major gun rights case in over 10 years to come before the Supreme Court and it has the makings of a major gun rights victory. The case concerns concealed-carry restrictions that require a showing of "proper cause." Lower courts have upheld the New York law, but there are ample constitutional concerns over its vague standard, such as showing that you are "of good moral character." New York wants to exercise discretion in deciding who needs to carry guns in public

During a signing ceremony for the infrastructure bill on Monday, President Biden praised the governors across America he worked with as vice president in the Obama administration—“save one.” He then took a potshot at former Gov. Sarah Palin without naming her, explaining, the one who "can see Alaska from her porch.” Biden got the “Saturday Night Live” joke completely wrong, given that he should’ve said Russia, not Alaska. Palin lives in Alaska so obviously she can see Alaska from her porch.

Vice President Kamala Harris is being increasingly alienated in the White House as her approval ratings plummet — as the first female veep feels she’s not getting the same support President Biden gives to white male politicians, according to a detailed new report. Despite their public show of unity, Biden and his right-hand woman have a dysfunctional relationship that has reached an “exhausted stalemate,” CNN said based on interviews with nearly three dozen insiders. At a time when the president would usually be expected to promote his vice president as a future replacement in the White House, Biden has instead been sidelining Harris as a potential liability, the report said.
