HELENA, Mont. — A new map dividing Montana into two congressional districts for the first time in decades was finalized Tuesday, triggering disappointment from Democrats who hoped to craft a different western district that would give them a better chance of winning in an increasingly Republican-dominated state. (Snip) In a bitterly disputed process that played out over several months, Democrats managed to keep liberal college towns Missoula and Bozeman in the western district, but lost the state capital of Helena to the solidly red eastern district. This is how redistricting works: every 10 years the Dim controlled states redistrict to their advantage and Pubs, we hope, would redistrict to their advantage. It's expected ... and then come the lawsuits.

Notice a key issue, the democrats pushed to ensure they would maintain the college towns in the district. They have been "mining" the colleges, and ensure many have ballot drop boxes available there too, for years. Many are very gullible, and persuadable, so ripe for influencing their decisions.

Gee, I've never heard of Democrats "gerrymandering" districts for their benefit. Well, at least not this morning. (Sarcasm key off). I remember a political cartoon (you know, when editorialists and editorial cartoonists would skewer both sides). The local county districts were coming up for redistricting and one well-entrenched Democrat was going to save his seat, but he had to live in the district. The district was drawn that his house was in the extreme eastern edge of the district. In fact, the final map looked eeriely like his profile, which gave the editorial cartoonist a great way to lampoon the result.

I have a "Bit" of disdain for people that use their political power to make the "Temporary" students presence a basis for their demands of Permanent control. There was a scene in "Yellowstone" where ranchers are asking Casey if he would be willing to run for Governor. He says...The "State is changing", they say "It may be, but we aren't... WE still decide, election day is in November, and all of those college students are too busy on the ski slopes to bother standing in line to vote, if they ever change election day to May? We are all screwed"

Montana is a right leaning state and has been for a long time. However, our Supreme Court is left leaning, and the Democrats have been able to control the redistricting for a long time because the Court names the chairman of the re-districting body. What they wanted, as always, was a guaranteed Democrat district. When it was announced that Montana would gain a Congressional seat, they began referring to the western district as 'our' district. They proposed a gerrymandered map that would do that. By some miracle, they didn't get it.

As Vermont reports higher than ever COVID-19 case rates, state health officials have been trying to understand why. How can a state that did so well during the first part of the pandemic — even garnering national recognition — be doing so much worse now? "There is not one simple answer," said Vermont Health Commissioner Dr. Mark Levine during a news conference Tuesday. "But, there are clearly factors that have come together to create the situation that we're in now." Slowing the spread is critical right now to prevent Vermont's hospitals from being overwhelmed with people sick with the virus, Levine said.

The number of container ships stuck off the coast of Southern California reached new records on Tuesday. According to data from the Marine Exchange, a total of 111 container ships are bobbing at sea around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, waiting to dock and unload. That breaks the previous record of 108 vessels reported on October 21. The two ports remain clogged despite efforts to speed up the processing of containers amid a surge in consumer demand for goods. The White House announced a shift to an around-the-clock schedule in October and a new looming threat of

President Joe Biden's climate envoy John Kerry said the United States won’t have coal plants by 2030. “By 2030 in the United States, we won’t have coal,” Kerry said Tuesday during an interview with Bloomberg at the United Nations's COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland. “We will not have coal plants.” The U.S., the world’s largest economy, generates nearly 25% of its electricity from coal despite the rapid retirements of coal plants in recent years that have struggled to compete with cheaper and cleaner natural gas and renewable energy. Kerry’s comment is among the most explicit to-date of a Biden

New York - Amid an array of discouraging election results for Democrats last week, there was one under-the-radar outcome that was especially perplexing. In New York, one of the country’s most progressive states, voters overwhelmingly rejected initiatives that would have expanded voting access in future elections. The vote, which came in a year when Republican-led states have passed dozens of laws to restrict voting access, left voting rights advocates stunned. (Snip) None of the measures came anywhere close to passing. Republicans waged a well-funded and aggressive campaign to oppose the amendments, a move that caught supporters of the proposal off
