Two Colorado school districts will cancel classes this week because they don’t have the staff to stay open. Boulder Valley School District and Adams 12 Five-Star Schools both announced they won’t have class on Friday. It will give both students and staff a four-day weekend, since there also won’t be school Thursday in observance of Veteran’s Day. “With the Veteran’s Day holiday being on the Thursday, it created a large number of staffing shortages,” said David Lockley, president of the District 12 Educators Association, the union representing Adams 12 teachers. In a letter to parents about the decision, the district

So why are so many full time teachers allowed to take off if they are short staffed? And why are substitute teachers in such dire short supply?

That's two less days that the commie teachers union are indoctrinating the young skulls full of mush. The less exposure our kids have to public schoolteachers, the better they are.

Ya, that "sudden" staff shortage for a long weekend is about "Veterans", has NOTHING to do with Teachers that got paid NOT to work all last year already, and the strictly "Coincidental" opening of the ski resorts that have early snow. No worries though there IS a solution....MAJOR NEW SPENDING!(same as the solution for EVERYTHING) “Unless the state makes a major investment, we’re going to continue to see these kinds of shortages.”

There are NO substitutes anywhere. A lot of our substitutes are older and they simply do not want to deal with possible covid and the wearing of masks. And the pay is lousy. We have now put all teachers on a substitute list. They are having to give up their prep time to cover for absent teachers. We easily have 4 - 6 teachers a day that are not covered by an all day substitute. The school cannot tell a teacher they can't take a day off as long as they have the time off with pay or choose to not be there with no pay. That is the reason we now only go Mon. & Tues. Thanksgiving week because so many staff members would take that Wed. off for travel. As with many businesses schools are also being affected. The bus driver shortage is also dire.

I’m wondering if the real reason is the National Walkout that started today & goes through the 11th. Perhaps those teachers who are against the vaccine mandate have walked out? If so, good for them.

I was a substitute teacher 13 years ago when I lived in NJ. I would not go back to the schools where there were major student behavior problems. Not enough hazard pay.

President Joe Biden's climate envoy John Kerry said the United States won’t have coal plants by 2030. “By 2030 in the United States, we won’t have coal,” Kerry said Tuesday during an interview with Bloomberg at the United Nations's COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland. “We will not have coal plants.” The U.S., the world’s largest economy, generates nearly 25% of its electricity from coal despite the rapid retirements of coal plants in recent years that have struggled to compete with cheaper and cleaner natural gas and renewable energy. Kerry’s comment is among the most explicit to-date of a Biden

New York - Amid an array of discouraging election results for Democrats last week, there was one under-the-radar outcome that was especially perplexing. In New York, one of the country’s most progressive states, voters overwhelmingly rejected initiatives that would have expanded voting access in future elections. The vote, which came in a year when Republican-led states have passed dozens of laws to restrict voting access, left voting rights advocates stunned. (Snip) None of the measures came anywhere close to passing. Republicans waged a well-funded and aggressive campaign to oppose the amendments, a move that caught supporters of the proposal off

Poor countries, rocked by storms and flooding from climate change, have spent years trying to hold the big carbon-emitters accountable. While most rich nations have fiercely resisted this liability, attendees at COP26 will give it another try in Glasgow next week. The US is the $2 trillion elephant in the room. That figure is a rough estimate (most likely at the very low end) of how much the world’s largest economy could owe other nations if it accepted liability for the “loss and damage” caused by its historical emissions of carbon dioxide, according to Richard Tol, an economics professor at

A year before the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans hold a clear lead on the congressional ballot as President Joe Biden's approval rating sinks to a new low of 38%. A USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, taken Wednesday through Friday, found that Biden's support cratered among the independent voters who delivered his margin of victory over President Donald Trump one year ago. Biden and his party are poised for a rebound, advocates argue, after the House passed a $1.2 trillion "hard" infrastructure bill late Friday, sending the signature measure to Biden's desk for his signature. Congress is requiring in its $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that automakers install monitoring systems in their cars to stop drivers from operating their vehicles while intoxicated. The bipartisan package, which is on its way to the president's desk after passing the House on Friday, allocates around $17 billion for the road safety programs. Monitoring systems to stop drunk drivers would roll out in all new vehicles as early as 2026, according to the new legislation. First, however, the Transportation Department would have to assess what the best form of technology is and give automakers ample time to comply. DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Monday that the safety programs included
