Both Texas and Mississippi today announced today they would be discontinuing all mask mandates and allowing businesses and schools to open back up. This isn’t just out of the air or haphazardly but based on dropping numbers of cases.

For quite a few months now, my family has been living a normal life, unimpeded by covid hysteria. Sure, it’s not perfect: the restaurants are open again, but we do have to wear masks for a few seconds while walking to our table. Also during the few moments while we walk indoors to our offices, and in grocery stores, etc. Given that I think the science is clear, and masks do no, or virtually no, good, I eagerly await the day when we can burn them all. (Didn’t feminists do that with bras many years ago? Pretty good analogy.)

It says a lot that Andrew Cuomo became a media darling even as his policies caused thousands of deaths in New York nursing homes, but now, suddenly, is the subject of impeachment talk because three women have accused him of mild or borderline sexual harassment. What it suggests to me is that our priorities are skewed and that our culture is becoming frivolous.
The allegations of sexual harassment show Cuomo to be a boor, something many of us already suspected. Reasonable people can disagree as to whether the allegations are just cause for removing him as governor.

A new poll released last week revealed that 69 percent of French people — or nearly 7 out of 10 — believe “Islamo-Leftism” is a serious problem in France.
The Odoxa-Backbone survey revealed on Feb. 24 that participants view left-wing political parties as being “complacent with radical Islamism,” while refusing to take firm stances against the extremist beliefs out of fear of “stigmatizing” Muslims.

Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas announced this afternoon that his state will completely lift all COVID restrictions, including allowing 100% capacity in businesses while also nuking any mask mandates. Texas has already been largely open for months, and while one could argue that Abbott is late to the party on removing the remaining limits (especially in contrast to Gov. Ron DeSantis and Gov. Kristi Noem), it’s still good to see the Lone Star State doing the right thing. It’s well past time to make the jump, in my opinion, and it’s become a societal and economic necessity regardless.
Gov. Tate Reeves signed a new executive order Tuesday afternoon removing all mask mandates in Mississippi, deciding to instead encourage mask-wearing rather than mandating it. The order goes into effect at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The announcement comes on the heels of Tuesday's reported 301 new cases, and 44 COVID-19-related deaths. But Reeves said, while he looks at daily case data, "total number of daily cases in not the end all be all." Instead, it's the numbers of hospitalizations, filled ICU beds and people on ventilators that dictated his executive orders.
All three of those numbers decreased significantly last month, Reeves said, triggering his move to end county mask mandates.

The United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA), the largest local teachers’ union in California, rejected Governor Gavin Newsom’s school reopening plan on Monday, calling it “”a recipe for propagating structural racism.” The plan, which was announced by Newsom and Democratic leaders in the state legislature, provides $6.6 billion for schools to accelerate the reopening process as coronavirus cases drop. “$2 billion would fund safety measures to support in-person instruction, such as personal protective equipment, ventilation upgrades and COVID-19 testing. $4.6 billion would fund expanded learning opportunities, such as summer school, tutoring and mental health services,” the governor’s office said in a press release.

Republican lawmakers in Georgia have muscled legislation through the state House that would roll back voting access.
It was passed over the objection of Democrats and civil rights groups gathered at the Capitol to protest. The bill comes after record turnout led to Democratic wins in Georgia’s presidential election and two U.S. Senate runoffs.
House Bill 531 passed 97-72 and now goes to the state Senate for more debate. The far-reaching bill would require a photo ID for absentee voting, limit the amount of time voters have to request an absentee ballot and limit early voting hours on weekends.
Georgia's branch of the ACLU has decried the bill.
There's a disturbing problem facing Michigan National Guard troops guarding the U.S. Capitol – their food. A whistleblower said nearly 75 meals were thrown out Sunday after metal shavings were found, other meals showed up undercooked making soldiers sick. A staff sergeant with the Michigan National Guard, whose identity is being protected, says the problem is not isolated. “Yesterday, for instance, there were 74 different meals found with raw beef in them,” the sergeant said. "Just yesterday, the lunches were, soldiers had found metal shavings in their food.”
