AOC: $15 Minimum Wage
a ‘Deep, Deep Compromise,’
Should Be $24

Original Article

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Monday criticized certain Democrats for failing to support progressive demands for a $15 minimum wage, contending they are living in a “dystopian capitalist nightmare” and adding that the minimum wage should actually be $24 an hour. The New York lawmaker defended the progressive push for a $15 minimum wage during an appearance on The Mehdi Hasan Show.

Comments:

Actually - - the minimum wage shoud be $6,417 per hour. Thay way - - a person wotking 35 hours per week would earn $224,595. Just think of that - - $224,595 per week - - every week! We'll all be RICH!

I am not surprised that AOC is arithmetically challenged. $24 per hour works out to $48,480 per year which is only a bit less than the roughly $60,000 which is the AVERAGE salary in the US.

I am old enough to remember when minimum wage went from $1.65/hour to $2.00, and I thought of all the cool things I would be able to buy; unfortunately, all the cool things went up in price, and I was no better off than I had been before.

Somebody check AOC's stock portfolio. I am 100% confident you will find lots of stocks in companies that make robots (that do so many tasks that were previously done by minimum wage workers), self-serve kiosks (like you are seeing in more and more fast food restaurants in place of those former minimum wage employees), and self-checkout registers (that have taken the jobs of so many former minimum wage grocery store workers). A $24 minimum wage would probably put 3 - 4 times as many workers out of their jobs and on to the welfare plantation -- just the place the Demon-Rats like the peasants!!!

There should be no federal minimum wage. The States should each set their own minimum wage. Almost nobody but teenagers working part time and illegal aliens working “under the table” earn the current federal minimum wage anyway.

The Seattle City Council is ordering hazard pay of an extra $4 an hour to grocery store employees. Kroger has already closed two stores. They were paying the clerks $20 an hour plus full benefits. The employees are now making hazard pay of $0 an hour and no benefits. Frankly, I don't know how a city council can set what a company pays their employees. BTW...Poster #11, I've always thought AOC looks like Donkey from the movie Shrek, especially when her mouth is open. The resemblance is startling.

That creature graduated with an economics degree from a major university? She should know that there's an infinite supply of low-skilled laborers and a finite number of employers who would wish to pay them $24 per hour. If you have to pay someone $24 per hour plus benefits to clean the toilets and empty the trash in your office, you will save the money and do those tasks yourself. Kids who can get part-time jobs today will be able to sit at home and play video games because no one will employ a 16-year-old for the same money that the employer can get experienced help. Liberals ruin everything.

This has very little to do with those minimum wage workers, millions of whom will promptly be let go, when management determines that their wages vastly exceed their value to the company. No, I think it is mostly about the enrichment of workers (union particularly, but others) whose wage is a multiple of the Minimum Wage. I.E.---hey! if some entry level part-timer gets that, I must be worth WAY more. Plus, a high percent of these same higher wage earners can NOT be let go, without cause, if at all. BINGO! This hike is essential.

How did she get to be the House spokesperson ? Not one person sitting on Capitol Hill cares one iota that millions of disabled and elderly collect less than $1000 a month in benefits. So, what is in it for her ? A pimpled faced teen (living with their parents and doesn't need benefits) bagging groceries on their first job should not be able to earn $15 an hour. Someone who can't comprehend or speak English it shouldn't earn $15 an hour.
