Wealthy UT Donors Threaten to Pull Support Over Removal of “The Eyes of Texas” Fight Song

Wealthy University of Texas at Austin donors are threatening to pull their support of Longhorn athletics over the school’s ties to a song that takes its name from a quote from Confederate General Robert E. Lee which was first played at minstrel shows. Thing is, the donors aren’t calling on the school to scrap the song; they want to keep it.

I imagine it's more than just the wealthy donors. But in typical leftist fashion, the only complaints that are respected are the ones with money attached.

Did anybody notice perhaps that UT is not teaching anymore. Just trying to collect tuition. Hard to pay the football players when your cash flow sucks.

If my experience with two colleges is any guide, this will roll off UT like so much water off a duck's back. I got no response from one college, and got a letter from the college president after another hot letter (which I answered and told him "too late.") For the record, I was not just someone off the street, but an alumna of the first, and my family had a history of donations with the second.

The musicians who refuse to play the school's fight song should be kicked out of the band. The band members who are attending school on a music scholarship should have their scholarships revoked. Time for the warden to direct the inmates.

Typical liberal fake news narrative. “Rich white men” objected. No, successful, hard working, UT alum donors unwilling to surrender to the idiotic woke movement! They grabbed our statues in the middle of a Sunday night with no discussion. Now this. Conservatives had better reign in education or our country is lost forever. Orwellian!

You need to pull your support from all these schools. They have become nothing but leftist indoctrination centers. I don't think wealthy capitalists should be donating to them.

My school went far left when it changed from a private college to a public university. I suppose they had to do it to receive government money. The liberal arts college was already full of leftoids. Thank goodness that, after the freshman year, I didn't have to stray far from the science building.

Why are parents/grandparents still sending ANY kids/grandkids to these leftist indoctrination centers? Seriously. This problem would be fixed overnight if there was a mass boycott of every single college/university that anti-free speech, anti-conservative policies and practices. It's ridiculous that families are going into debt to pay these $50,000-$60,000 a year tuitions to these schools that continue to indoctrinate their young people and heap scorn on the values and culture of the parents and this country. STOP sending them your kids and your money!

Decades ago Dixie was the de facto song of many universities in The South. It was known as the National Anthem of The South. Nowadays if you whistle Dixie on a college campus you will be surrounded by the swat squad in 5 minutes. Face it. The War is over and we lost. At my Alma Mater we now have a Professor of Hip Hop Studies.

Miami’s North Beach is not exactly where the action is. Compared to the luxurious party hub of South Beach, it’s a fairly drab neighborhood with stucco housing, diners and condos lining the shore. But it has an overlooked gem tucked into its western edge, and that’s a .4-square-mile, 41-lot private island called Indian Creek. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump recently bought a 1.8-acre lot for $30m on Indian Creek Island, which is considered Miami’s most ultra-exclusive address (the plot was originally purchased by Latin singer Julio Iglesias, who lives on the island, through Jills Zeder real estate).

It was a terrible day in American history. And also a bad day to “stick to sports.” The horrifying images at the nation’s Capitol on Wednesday — during what should have been a peaceful counting of electoral votes — was well-covered by the news media, which had been expecting a raucous 24 hours (both inside and outside the government chambers). It also pulled in a lot of media that’s been carefully trying to toe the line between acknowledging the real world and reporting on non-“newsy” subjects. Which is pretty impossible when you have domestic terrorist cosplayers pushing aside security and invading the offices of elected officials without fear of arrest.

Under different circumstances, it’s not hard to see how the idea of Van Morrison and Eric Clapton teaming up for a new song might be appealing. One of them is among rock’s most acclaimed vocalists and songwriters; the other is a guitarist lauded for his skill and style for decades. That their collaboration would come on a song addressing the present moment opens up a world of possibilities: could they, perhaps, be working on a song in support of first responders or communities whose health is at risk from the pandemic?

Generational shifts almost always wreak havoc on accepted pop-culture wisdom. As one cohort ages out of a particular scene — be it music, movies, fashion or design — a new group rushes into to fill the gap, bringing with them their own ideas about what’s cool, what’s not and most importantly, where you should turn your attention next.

Election Week 2020 brought us an abundance of memes, viral videos and internet jokes, but amid all those John King fan cams and riffs on Nevada’s glacial-pace vote counting, the nation turned its attention, once again, to the city of Philadelphia. When it became apparent that Philly and its surrounding suburbs would help propel Joe Biden to the White House, the internet suddenly stopped ridiculing the City of Brotherly Love and instead began to appreciate the beauty buried somewhere within.

Now that the implications of the Harris/Biden administration are setting in, my Democrat friends (yes, I do have a few) are becoming very embarrassed. They bought into the propaganda that all the turmoil in Washington was created by the erratic and immoral behavior of Donald Trump. Their vote for Harris/Biden was a vote to return to normal. They didn’t realize that the Democrats weren’t offering a return to normal, they were offering the establishment of a “new normal.” (snip) My friends are belatedly realizing that the turmoil was not created by Donald Trump. On Thursday night, a masked Biden tottered down a long, empty hall to a podium. He then gave the most bizarre presidential address in American history. After a grim recital of “facts” about the last year, Biden emphasized multiple times that Americans had better take the vaccine – and be grateful to him for his amazing ability to get the vaccine to Americans. He also insisted that, vaccines or not, the government’s in control and can lock all of us up all over again. (snip) Biden kept saying that he was going to tell the truth. Eli Lilly & Co says its combination antibody therapy is effective at treating mild to moderate cases of COVID-19. The treatment, a mixture of drugs bamlanivimab and etesevimab, was developed by Indianapolis-based Lilly and the Canadian company AbCellera. It recognizes the virus once a person is infected and attaches to it, preventing the pathogen from entering human cells, and therefore neutralizing it. In trial data released on Wednesday, Eli Lilly said the combination reduced the risk of hospitalization and death by 87 percent compared to a placebo. The results are an improvement of an earlier study of the combination, which reduced the risk of hospitalization and death by 70 percent.
