Ann Dorn, the widow of retired Police Chief David Dorn, delivered tearful remarks about the death of her husband in the George Floyd riots in St. Louis. She spoke about fearing for David’s life every time he went out to help people, but on the night of June 2, he didn’t wake her up before leaving. She condemned the violent riots as the opposite of peaceful protest. “The alarm that went off the morning of June 2nd was for real. It was a violent night in St. Louis. President Trump on Thursday will deliver his speech officially accepting the Republican nomination for president from the White House lawn. That fact alone has Democrats and the Left losing their collective mind.
Trump’s speech is supposed to underscore America’s greatness, which is likely to trigger leftists from Portland to . . . er, Portland. But he could do so much more. Here are 25 ways the president could cause the Left to melt down even more—if that’s possible—on the final night of the Republican National Convention.

Kamala Harris promoted herself as “Kamala Harris for the People” during her failed presidential run. Now that she is Joe Biden’s vice presidential running mate, the meaning of “for the people” has become clear: elite Hollywood left-wingers, like J.J. Abrams and Ryan Murphy. Deadline reported that uber TV producer Ryan Murphy and his husband, David Miller, are chairing a September 3 fundraiser where Hollywood bigwigs will throw hundreds of thousands of dollars at the vice presidential candidate in the hopes of propelling her — and Joe Biden — to victory.

Yesterday Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old accused of shooting three rioters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, killing two and injuring one, was arrested. He was charged with first-degree intentional homicide. President Trump has since sent in the feds and the national guard after the useless governor of Wisconsin previously turned down offers of support. Hooligans are rioting because a black man with a criminal record of violence was shot by cops when he resisted arrest, marched to his car and appeared to reach into grab something. A knife was found in the car. Was Jacob Blake was trying to grab a gun? I wouldn’t want to wait and find out.

Back when we thought the way to end racism was to make people less conscious of race, social engineers proudly pronounced that there’s actually no such thing as race anyway.
From the outset, this was socially well-intentioned but scientifically silly. Society long ago classified people on the basis of their appearance or “phenotypes.” White (formerly called Caucasian) people generally look different than black (formerly called negroid) people who look different than Asians and so on. This difference in appearance is not a “social construct.” It’s real and it’s measurable and it relates to different geographic origins and ancestry.

PITHOLE CITY, Pennsylvania — “Pap, I think you had better come see Pithole.”
T.B. Whitacre penned those words to his grandfather on July 30, 1865. In January, just seven months earlier, an oil strike along Pithole Creek at Holmden Farm had drawn him and hundreds of people, mostly speculators, to the property where the oil was first discovered. By May, a town was laid out in the lush Venango County wilderness filled with hemlocks, pines, rattlesnakes, bears, deer and porcupines. By July, it was rapidly becoming overgrown with people and derricks, and clogged with buildings. By Christmas 1865, nearly 20,000 people lived there, including Whitacre.

The coins were found after two National Service members noticed a sparkling in the ground and uncovered the buried treasure. The youth were taking part in a dig being conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority ahead of the establishment of a new neighborhood in central Israel.

The Supreme Court dismissed tribal objections to a Navajo inmate's scheduled execution, declining to block the convicted murderer's punishment.
On Wednesday, the high court issued their decision declining to stop 38-year-old Lezmond Mitchell's execution without any noted objections from justices. Mitchell was found guilty of stabbing an elderly woman to death before killing her 9-year-old granddaughter by slitting her throat.
"The application for stay of execution of sentence of death presented to Justice Kagan and by her referred to the Court is denied. The petition for a writ of certiorari is denied," the document reads.

The third night of the convention belonged to Vice President Mike Pence. The former governor of Indiana has spent four years in the shadow of President Trump, and Wednesday evening's address was an opportunity for him to make the case for a second term directly to the viewing public. Out of all the talks this week, Pence's most closely resembled one you might have heard at a pre-coronavirus convention. He touted the administration's record from an outdoor stage at Fort McHenry, and before a live audience that was eager to applaud.

No sooner did President Trump air at the Republican convention Secretary of State Pompeo’s endorsement video recorded in Jerusalem than the Biden camp is unleashing a new objection — that the secretary is too religious to represent all of the American people. We kid you not. This has got to be the most desperate, offensive, and unconstitutional claim against a state secretary that the Democrats have ever aired.
It comes from one of Mr. Biden’s closest consiglieres, Susan Rice. She was President Obama’s National Security Adviser and, before that, envoy at the United Nations. Vice President Biden had her on his short list for his running mate.

Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala D. Harris returned to the virtual campaign trail Wednesday, but that might not be good enough for some in her party who say the ticket eventually must emerge from the cloistered confines of Delaware and do some in-person retail politicking.
Ms. Harris was supposed to pre-but President Trump’s Republican National Convention address in a speech from Washington, D.C. on Thursday, but it’s unclear when she or Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden will resume larger in-person events that have been put on hold indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“They need to start pretty soon,” Democratic strategist Brad Bannon.

The Republican convention yesterday evening featured a speech by Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director who today is a pro-life activist.
The substance of Johnson’s speech has received markedly little coverage, as most reports instead attacked the credibility of her conversion story or dredged up her controversial comments on other subjects. But what Johnson said about abortion is worth remembering.
“For most people who are pro-life, abortion is abstract. They can’t even conceive of the barbarity,” she said, after telling the story of assisting with an abortion procedure while working at Planned Parenthood. “They don’t know about the ‘products of conception’ room in abortion clinics,

On Wednesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) formally requested COVID-19 data from Democrat governors who required nursing homes to admit patients who had previously tested positive for the disease caused by the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.
“Protecting the rights of some of society’s most vulnerable members, including elderly nursing home residents, is one of our country’s most important obligations,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Division Eric Dreiband said in a statement. “We must ensure they are adequately cared for with dignity and respect and not unnecessarily put at risk.”

A previous entry in this space, written after an active-duty Army sergeant moonlighting as an Uber driver in Austin shot and killed a “mostly peaceful” anti-police protester who pointed his rifle at the driver at close range, talked about the make-believe revolution that has been taking place on the streets of America’s worst-run cities this summer:
Was this a sad occurrence? Sure. It’s never a happy thing that a 28-year-old is gunned down on a city street in America.
Yet what happened to Garrett Foster was bound to happen to someone, because too many Americans, particularly among the participants

The Examiner reports that in the latest Zogby poll, President Trump stands at 52% approval, with high ratings from blacks, Hispanics and Asians. I think a couple of things are going on here, one being the riots, which are deeply unpopular with almost everyone and are generally (and correctly) attributed to Democratic Party constituencies.
Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter seems determined to keep the violence going in Kenosha, where two men were killed last night in a chaotic scene:(Snip for tweets)Democrats are getting nervous. After encouraging rioting and arson for months, CNN’s Don Lemon is now worrying that Antifa- and BLM-led violence is hurting Joe Biden in the polls. Do tell!

An army of lawyers descended on the Wisconsin city of Kenosha on Tuesday to prey on the family of Jacob Blake and fan the flames of mob violence.
Sure enough, a few hours later, two people were shot dead in another night of rioting, arson and destruction, spurred on by politicians, lawyers and other faithless opportunists.
Another Democrat-run American city suffering at the hands of the violent BLM-Antifa wing of the Democratic Party, which has been deputized to influence the outcome of the November election.

In recent weeks, not only have we seen some very large holes punched in the narrative of what happened to George Floyd, but we’ve also seen the very thin veil come off, as the “peaceful protests” by Black Lives Matter and Antifa rapidly devolved into perhaps the worst string of violent riots the country has ever seen. (snip) We are finally starting to see a pushback by John Q. Public; and I believe we’ll see more as the weeks and months go by. The “woke” forces of Antifa and Black Lives Matter -- mostly overindulged, pampered, underparented, overeducated and spoiled children -- are on the verge of a rude awakening.

I can’t remember a wildcat strike ever happening by a pro sports team, let alone an entire league, let alone during the playoffs. My guess is that it’ll alienate more people than it’ll win over, but alienation never lasts very long in sports. A million fans will vow today that they’ll never watch the NBA again and most will be back next week, or at least for the Finals. And everyone who isn’t will be back next season. The Milwaukee Bucks violated the collective bargaining agreement with the league when they decided to protest by not playing today’s game against the Orlando Magic.

Despite the liberal media’s claims, the Republican National Convention has been a resounding success.
President Trump understands the broadcast news cycle better than most, so it is no surprise that the Trump campaign put together a compelling program that features a wide range of charismatic speakers. Vice President Mike Pence’s acceptance of his party's renomination was the prime example of patriotic conservatism that we have come to expect from the Trump administration.

Bursts of lightning appeared, dotting the storm clouds of Hurricane Laura, in satellite imagery posted to Twitter by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Wednesday morning.
The video was taken by NOAA’s GOES East weather satellite before sunrise Wednesday, according to the agency.
At the time, the storm’s winds were around 115 mph – but it was rapidly intensifying and has since grown into a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 150 mph. The hurricane was about 95 miles south of Lake Charles, La., moving north-northwest at 15 mph as of 9 p.m. ET Wednesday, according to the weather service. It was expected to make landfall on the Louisiana-Texas state line

This is a Christian school, which just goes to show that progressives have poisoned pretty much every campus in the country.(Snip)Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to speak at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Commencement on Saturday, but more than 200 students and alumni have denounced the decision.(Snip)The letter said, “the mere invitation of a Vice President of an incredibly divisive and controversial ticket to speak in a swing state months before an election is ignorant and deceptive.”(Snip)“Your commencement ceremony should not have been infected by toxic politics,” the letter read. “You didn’t ask for this, and you should not have needed to ask for this not to happen.”
