J ust when we thought things couldn’t get much worse for Harvey Weinstein, the news came of yet another lawsuit targeting the disgraced producer — this time for an alleged incident way back in 1994. Weinstein already stands convicted on charges of criminal sexual act and rape and is unlikely to be a free man again, and there can be little doubt that more powerful figures will face ruin, disgrace, and imprisonment as the #MeToo juggernaut rolls onward. But the stated aim of some proponents of #MeToo is greater in scope than the shaming and jailing of individuals who have abused their power and committed sexual harassment or assault.

"We promised to keep things peaceful … but if you want bullets, you shall have them.” That was the wording of a message issued to Bashar Assad by the Druze community in Syria’s southern Suwayda province on Tuesday after three days of intensifying protests. Since then, its opposition to the Assad regime has only heated up, despite a pro-regime counterprotest on Wednesday, in which local state employees were threatened by secret police should they not participate. Demonstrators took to the streets against Assad again on Wednesday and Thursday, some bearing flags of the Syrian revolution. Until recently, the Druze, a minority sect, had largely stayed out

Over a career spanning 30+ years, photographer Mark Seliger has crafted more indelible portraits of iconic figures than perhaps any photographer alive. Recently he partnered with venerable auction house Christie’s and advocacy organization RAD on RADArt4Aid, a dedicated global auction to benefitting COVID-19 relief organizations around the world.

This story is actually being urged upon me, and I find myself a bit conflicted. At first, I tried to find a reason to sympathize with whatever predicament the FBI Agents found themselves that caused them to kneel down. There is conflicting reporting about whether the Agents kneeled in order to minimize the potential for confrontation with a much larger group of protesters who were calling for them to do so, or whether the Agents were, in fact, demonstrating sympathy for the views being expressed by the protesters.

A woman in Atlanta reportedly died after getting trapped in a clothing donations box. Local police believe the 26-year-old victim was attempting to retrieve clothes in the metal container located behind a tavern in the Midtown area late Wednesday night, according to the local Fox affiliate. The owner of the establishment called the police after he found the woman, unconscious, with her arm and head stuck inside, police said. “The victim used a chair to climb inside the clothing dispensary to retrieve clothing, somehow lost her footing and was entrapped inside of the metal box,” Atlanta Police Capt. F. Turner told Fox5 Atlanta.

Joe Biden on Thursday rolled out a wide-ranging plan to reopen the US economy as states lift restrictions to limit the spread of coronavirus — and also knocked President Trump for purportedly not having a detailed plan of his own. “Trump has basically had a one-point plan: Open businesses,” Biden said Thursday at an economic roundtable in Philadelphia. “It does nothing to keep workers safe, to keep businesses able to stay open, and secondly it does very little to increase consumer confidence.” Biden vowed to guarantee testing and protective equipment for people called back to work, while banning discrimination against elderly Americans and others at high risk of contracting the virus.

A City Council vote in favor of the move was first reported by The Coaster, a local outlet. Under Murphy’s order, outdoor dining can resume on Monday, but indoor dining remains a no-go. President Trump will resume campaign rallies starting next Friday as he confronts the twin crises of a pandemic and widespread protests over racial bias in policing. It's a busy time, but still, he should not allow himself to get distracted from North Korea's rising escalation. This week, Kim Jong Un's regime unilaterally suspended communication with its South Korean neighbor. Referring to Seoul as "the enemy," North Korean state media declared its "conclusion that there is no need to sit face-to-face with the South Korean authorities and there is no issue to discuss with them, as they have only aroused our dismay." South Korean media reports that Seoul attempted communication

As dozens of cities crawl from the wreckage of social media-generated rioting against supposedly pervasive white racism and police brutality, self-styled advocates for social justice are retooling a familiar campaign. They’re demanding financial reparations for slavery and its after-effects, payable from whites to blacks, in the trillions of dollars. This would promote equality, atonement and “healing.” Don’t believe them. Calls for reparations go back many decades. The core assumption has been the same from the start: Living whites must make amends to living blacks by emptying their pockets, preferably with the federal government overseeing the transfers.

Whenever Democrats push race to the forefront of the news, reparations pop up. The theory is that, because their forebearers were kidnapped from Africa and enslaved in America, blacks will never catch up economically to whites. It doesn’t matter that there are no slaves or slaveowners today; that most whites are not descended from slaveowners; or that racism impoverished, rather than enriched the South. Scott Adams’ brilliant insight cuts through all this: The comparison isn’t between black wealth and white wealth in America. Instead, the comparison must be the difference between black’s average net worth in America versus black’s average net worth in Africa.

Below is an edited and translated conversation that Loury had with Peter Winkler, U.S. correspondent for the Swiss daily newspaper Neue Zuercher Zeitung (NZZ). Former Vice President Joe Biden appears to be in a better position to win the November presidential election than ever before, with a number of recently released polls showing him with a significant lead over President Trump. But despite a clear polling advantage for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, there are two key factors that have resulted in many public polls obtaining results that overstate Biden’s actual lead. The first factor is that some polls use disproportionately Democratic samples.
