Football players at the University of Texas at Austin have released a lengthy list of demands, urging the university to change the name of buildings on campus — including the stadium — and eliminate “The Eyes of Texas” as the school’s song in the name of inclusivity, claiming the racism that “has historically plagued” the campus.“The recent events across the country regarding racial injustice have brought to light the systemic racism that has always been prevalent in our country as well as the racism that has historically plagued our campus,” Texas Longhorns players said in a statement released on Friday.

Where is it stated in the Bible anything regarding "racism?"
The Bible makes clear there are only TWO races on this earth - Gentile and Jew, period.
Get over your stupidity and play football, else lose your blasted scholarships.

Those precious little snowflakes. All those years of people telling them how special they are, lifting them to idol worship status ... that they can do no wrong. Newsflash boys, 90 % of you won't amount to much after you leave UT. Less than half of you graduate, maybe 10 % might get a try out for the NFL ...maybe. Some of those names you are trying to eliminate contributed a lot of money, endowments, etc in order for you to have a place to play ball. Your self inflated ego...can't get you through life. Ask Ricky Williams.....

I was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan for 50 years until the entire team (including owner and coaches) marched to the 50 yard line and knelt together in "solidarity" with the racist thug players disrespecting our flag, country, and first responders. I haven't watched a second of the NFL since then.
But I still had college football. And, of course, was a die-hard UT Longhorn fan for over 50 years. But the lie-berals have now destroyed that.
These players are spoiled brats who get a free ride to attend school at a premier university, and who get to play on a team that very few players get the opportunity to even dream of. For them to be making "demands" is obscene and pure evil!!!! I would hope the university would pull their scholarships and expel them, even if it meant wasting this football season.
But, sadly, this is uber-lie-beral UT, so they will probably do exactly what they are demanding. But I won't know, because I am officially done with football on all levels, I guess I will have a lot of extra time on Saturdays to get actual important stuff done. Works for me!!!!!

Last i checked the largest univ athletic program in US (UT) hasn't won a fb title since 2005 and other sports haven't done well either. Maybe its the athletes and the coaches and their UT entitlement philosophy and not the fight song or the stadium name.

DEMANDS! So many headlines with so many demands. America does votes and rule of law, not demands (unless you are holding a hostage or planted a bomb). Dictators, monarchs, extortionists... The Great American Experiment is the alternative to all those who demand.
OH!, and people stealing flatscreens and burning down businesses brings a lot to light and none of it is systemic racism. Statistics would bring systemic racism to light, and they all do the exact opposite.

Easy solution. Defund sports for a couple of years; then re-sign everyone with a contract requiring respect for ALL people, because ALL lives matter! Add a clause about respecting the flag of our nation, too.

Time to tell these players no names are changing and the inmates are not running the asylum. Time to give the players the schools demands. If you don't like our school or our programs, leave. Go find another university hat you can run. If these morons want to destroy the gifts that keep giving then go to another country. Time to end this insanity. This is not about Texas University, this is about our country. Time to tell these anarchists to leave the university and they will be replaced with kids who want to play. This whole insurrection has to end now. Got it.

Administrators need to administer. They need to take control of these multimillions dollar enterprises. Lay down the rules, stand by them. DO this a few times, and the children will become less stompy-footed and clenched-fist whiners.
Add to this, if you're going to attend a guest speake's event, they are to be respected and listened to, or don't go. Respect others who do attend. Learn to develop intellect and reasoning ability, shouting down and screaming and sticking fingers in ears are indications of laziness and ignorance.

The agitators hate things names after white people who achieved enough in life to merit great recognition, and instead demand statues made by People of Color and buildings named after people who achieved being BLACK. They can't begin to grasp the hypocrisy. FTA: "More notably, the players requested Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to be renamed after Julius Whittier, the first black football payer at UT."

I remember Bill Walton talking to John Wooten after UCLA's first national championship. Walton had grown long hair and beard. Wooten told him to get a haircut and shave before practice. Walton said "What are you going to do if I dont coach". Wooten told Walton that he wished him success with whatever team he played for this upcoming season. Needless to say, Walton shaved and got a haircut.

From what I've read it is not the lyrics to "The Eyes of Texas" but that the song was originally sung by minstrels in black face.
The only people who would remember this song being sung by minstrels are among the very very elderly. I'm 67 years old and I don't remember it. I remember learning the song in 2nd grade along with Texas Our Texas. We would sing BOTH with wild abandon.
Revoke their scholarships.

Even though the SEC network is pretty successful, Texas A&M only gets a share of its revenue. The University of Texas has the Longhorn Network that brings in $30 million a year or more and they don't share it with anyone (which is partly why the Big 12 has only 10 teams and is the 5 in the Big 5 conferences. Used to be UT and Ohio State were the most profitable college athletic programs; probably Alabama and a few others have joined that group. That's why UT athletics thinks their stuff don't stink and they don't have to work hard. And then folks beat them.

It seems that their beef with “The Eyes of Texas” is - now get this….slowly….: In about 1903, a song called “I’ve Been Working On the Railroad” was performed by minstrel group. It is now on the Cancel Culture list.
Its music was used for “The Eyes of Texas”, which makes that a song to be cancelled as well.
There are no words. Well there are, but not here.
This Brennan Eagles is aiming to be Kaepernick. He has a long way to go. Into the same blind alley.

Back around 1970, outside agitators convinced the black players for Syracuse University football that the SU coach, Ben Schwartzwalder, was racist. He was not, having recruited Jimmy Brown, Ernie Davis (the first black to receive the Heisman trophy,) and Floyd Little.
Coach S. as he was known, was a tough former paratrooper in WWII, and treated all of his players equally. He was tough. Period.
Several of the black players quit the team, and disappeared forever.
no other college team went through the black outside agitator stuff in 1970.
I suspect that a whole lot of teams, this year, will be invaded by those modern day black agitators.
jimmy Brown and Floyd Little returned to campus to support Coach S. ernie Davis didn't make it - he died of leukemia in 1962, after being picked up by the Cleveland Browns. He and Jimmy Brown would have been the greatest two running backs ever to play together.

#6 is right, and it's done from an early age. To wit, schools in Texas for grades 6-12 don't like to hire teachers. They prefer to hire coaches first, then let the coach teach one class to make it legit. A retired teacher put it this way: You need to be certified to teach PE, but any damn fool is allowed to coach.

AD Chris Del Conte, and a few of the big cigars who support athletics in Austin.....need to have a come to Jesus meeting with these social justice warriors.
Might wanna' sit 'em down......'splain how ECO 101 works. They enjoy the privilege's of playing football for the 'Horns.....because of the generosity of the folks they now despise. I think it would be appropriate to tell each player ( and his/her parent(s) ).....individually....what the value of room, board, tuition, books, fee's, etc......is at their institution. As well as the value of a diploma.
If their consciences won't let them toil and struggle under the oppressive conditions in Austin? Release 'em from their schollies. They can check out the opportunities at Prairie View, or TSU. Places where they might be more "aligned" with the political culture of the campus.
