Confederate statue during protests in Virginia

A Virginia man who was struck by a falling Confederate statue during a protest flatlined twice on the way to the hospital and was placed in a coma, according to his wife. Chris Green, 45, of Portsmouth, was one of the hundreds of Virginians who descended onto the streets Wednesday to protest police brutality and the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who died while in police custody. Protesters rallied at the Confederate monument in Olde Towne Portsmouth after the City Council earlier that night put off decisions on potentially removing the statue. Confederate monuments and statues have become targets for protesters

Comments:

An update on the man hit in the head with a torn-down statue. I can't work up much sympathy. People who attend potentially violent demonstrations are taking a big risk.

It seems like EMTs as part of first respondors are of a quasi police nature and for sure they would help an injured policeman or woman. The guy should have refused to take services from part of a system that supports police. I guess he just a traitor to the cause.

The video showed insanity. What appeared to be a rabid lesbian woman up on the monument wielding a sledgehammer. It obviously didn’t occur to any of the hysterical rioters that that very heavy statue would fall at some point, and where was it to go? These people are not too bright… I had just said to my husband “what if that thing goes over and hits someone”…. about ten minutes later, we heard about this poor guy.

Always remember that the Daily Mail is a foreign anti-Trump rag, so anything they “report” should be considered from being merely suspect up to completely fake news. If the victim of that Confederate statue survives, he can rightly say, up to the moment, that he was the last African-American wounded by a Confederate soldier. If not, he can be remembered as being the last African-American killed by a Confederate soldier. No doubt the liberal fake news oriented media talking heads will be pleased as punch to propagandize whatever course that will take.

#20 is part right - DM is a British tabloid, reporting scandals both real and fake, and taking whichever side seems most opportune and self-serving in any given situation. Part of the reason they are posted here so much is how many times they were the only place that important articles debunking global warming hysteria got reported. Then we watched them bat both sides of the game during Obama's dictatorship. Why do we keep turning to them after they kick our side in the gut? Possibly because they regularly have great photo sets, comprising content both historical and current. But I'm with #16 -- I tried disabling my ad-block there once after they started requiring it to view their page, and it was so full of ads that the pages never finished one page load before the auto-refresh timeout triggered the next page-reload. Since they now block their content from view with their demand that we disable our ad blocker, I treat the "Original Article" link here as if it were an ad, never clicking on it for any reason.

The Panic Pandemic 3 replies
Posted by zephyrgirl 7/19/2021 5:30:37 PM Post Reply
The United States suffered through two lethal waves of contagion in the past year and a half. The first was a viral pandemic that killed about one in 500 Americans—typically, a person over 75 suffering from other serious conditions. The second, and far more catastrophic, was a moral panic that swept the nation’s guiding institutions. Instead of keeping calm and carrying on, the American elite flouted the norms of governance, journalism, academic freedom—and, worst of all, science. They misled the public about the origins of the virus and the true risk that it posed.

DENVER  — As the delta variant continues to spread throughout the country, the World Health Organization is asking vaccinated people to still wear masks to stop the spread of COVID-19. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, however have not changed, allowing fully vaccinated people to go without a mask. In Denver-area hospitals, doctors tell FOX31 at least half of the unvaccinated COVID-19 patients are sick with the delta variant. The variant is significantly more contagious, and the symptoms patients feel are worse than from the original COVID-19 virus. Doctors continue to stress the message, that it’s the vaccines that will ultimately stop the spread. CORRECTION*

When women’s professional soccer was deemed good enough for our TV screens a couple of years ago, I was watching with a friend and her four-year-old son. He was enthralled by the game, and asked his mother, ‘Are boys allowed to play football as well as girls, mummy?’ This little boy’s comment clearly highlighted the insidious sexism prevalent in all aspects of competitive sport. When it comes to soccer, rugby, weightlifting, darts, you name it, commentating, sports writing, sports photography and so many other operational aspects of competitive sports are dominated by men.

DENVER — He is a Colorado Rockies fan, so here is a baseball analogy. Gov. Jared Polis (D) is 4-for-4. All four of the winners of the $1 million vaccination incentive contest received their vaccines prior to the contest, which was meant to encourage unvaccinated Coloradans to get vaccinated. "The vast majority got vaccinated because they wanted to be protected, they wanted to be safe. I wouldn't be shocked if all of the winners aren't from that broader category. This is designed to get a few percent more," said Polis. "You know to be at 70 [percent] on July 4 instead of 67 percent."

The Democratic Party has had a problem. It’s a small, incoherent, and privileged clique funded by billionaire oligarchs to push policies that even mainstream Democratic voters oppose. How to bridge the gap? The solution they chose, which party officials made clear this week, was simple: the way third-world elites always do—by using street violence to keep their clients in line. This week, pro-Palestinian demonstrators auditioned for the chance to join already established Democratic Party militias antifa and Black Lives Matter by attacking Jews in New York and Los Angeles.

Every human organization has social trust. The belief in the honesty, integrity, and reliability of others is what makes human organization possible. There is the vertical trust between layers within the social hierarchy and there is horizontal trust between members within a segment of society. Social trust is the mortar that holds the blocks of a human society together, but also the grease that keeps the wheels turning. In large-scale human societies, social trust is embodied in the institutions, which are the superstructure of society.

House Democrats are trying to use a massive climate and infrastructure bill to change how Americans get around — by breaking states’ decades-old fondness for building highways. Legislation the House passed this month is the biggest advance yet in Democrats' efforts to bake climate policies into transportation, addressing the largest single contributor to the United States’ greenhouse gas output. It would also represent an historic shift away from the roads-first approach to federal transportation spending that has reigned since Dwight Eisenhower created the Interstate Highway System. But the bill is riling up opposition from two potential allies of the Democrats'
