Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves won the race for Mississippi governor Tuesday night, defeating Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood. Republicans were on track Tuesday to control all statewide elected offices in Mississippi and are expected to maintain super-majority control of the Legislature. In incomplete and unofficial results, Reeves led Hood on Tuesday night 53% to 45%. Hood conceded the race at about 10:30 p.m., telling supporters, "We've run a good race. I appreciate your support, and we've had fun."
Hood reiterated a campaign theme, that he ran to try to help "the least among us." Reeves outspent Hood two-to-one
Republicans are keeping their hold on the governorship in Mississippi, despite facing the best-funded Democrat in more than a decade.

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday in connection with the murders of a New Hampshire couple whose bodies turned up in a shallow grave on a Texas beach last week. Anthony Curtis Williams, 33, was being sought for the theft of the murdered couple’s pickup and RV, Kleberg County Sheriff Richard Kirkpatrick said. The bodies of James and Michelle Butler were unearthed on Padre Island, near Corpus Christi. Their pickup and RV were stolen and driven to Mexico, investigators said. Kirkpatrick also said a woman was being sought as a person of interest. He identified her as Amanda Noverr, 32.
Sixty-two percent of people who approve of the job President Trump is doing say that there would be nothing the commander in chief could do to shake their support, according to a Monmouth University poll out Tuesday. On the other hand, 70 percent of those who don’t approve of his job performance say there is nothing he could do that would win them over. A county spokesman confirmed to the local news outlet on Nov. 1 that correctional officers have been ordered to give ICE agents clearance to “identified areas” of the jail to “ensure that transfers are conducted in a safe environment.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is considering changing the lineup of the House Intelligence Committee to include some of President Trump's most vocal defenders in Congress.

Fourteen of the 17 law enforcement dads, their wives and their babies gathered Monday at Sandy Creek Covered Bridge in Jefferson County for photos, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The babies were dressed in matching white onesies with deputy badges printed on them and brown pants and accessories. The two newest babies were just 10 days old.

When Sen. Elizabeth Warren released details on how she’d pay for the $34 trillion Medicare for All plan, she said that it would “make plain the choice facing the American people.”
She’s right about that. The choice she’s offering would not only destroy two industries and cause an economic catastrophe, it would give the federal government unprecedented control over the decisions of private industry.
Warren was forced into releasing payment details because she kept refusing to say whether her Medicare for All plan would require tax hikes on the middle class. In order to continue that fiction, Warren produced a document that even the left says is wildly unrealistic.
OKLAHOMA CITY — More than 450 inmates walked out the doors of prisons across Oklahoma on Monday as part of what state officials say is the largest single-day mass commutation in U.S. history.
The release of inmates, all with convictions for low-level drug and property crimes, resulted from a bill signed by new Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt. The bill retroactively applied misdemeanor sentences for simple drug possession and low-level property crimes that state voters approved in 2016.
Stitt has made reducing Oklahoma's highest-in-the-nation incarceration rate one of his top priorities and has appointed reform-minded members to the state's Pardon and Parole Board.
New battleground state polls sent tremors through Democratic circles Monday, underlining that President Trump is in with a fighting chance of reelection despite his mediocre national standing.
The polls, from the New York Times and Siena College, tested the three leading Democratic 2020 candidates — former Vice President Joe Biden, and Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — against Trump in the six states that Trump carried by the narrowest margins in 2016.
