Big Brother II: VPNs on the Chopping Block

In my 2:00 piece, I wrote about Australia's soon-to-be-implemented requirement to upload a Digital ID in order to conduct an internet search. Every search query you make will be tied to your ID, ready for the government to conveniently track you as you move around the internet. The UK is still pushing its propaganda regarding Digital ID, and hasn't quite gotten the policy over the finish line. But fear not, until they do, they have other ways to go all Chinese Communist Party social credit system on you. Britons are assured that there are no specific plans to ban VPNs, but that "everything is on the table."

Youtube and multiple other sites are slowly killing access with VPN addresses... Their excuses range from "age verification" to "combating bots".... but the reality is they just want to fingerprint everyone they can. Big Liberal Google want you stamped with a number and now. I refuse, and I'm glad the few conservative places I frequent have not followed suit.

Here is an idea. Instead of making privacy illegal, make pornography illegal. Western governments now protect unrighteousness and the demonic and persecute the honorable and upright.

I used to look at GAB every day. For a couple weeks they were telling about England trying to force them to censor in England, and how they weren't going to buckle to foreign pressure. Then out of the blue they blocked all VPNs unless you register with them and pay, which pretty well defeats the purpose of a VPN. They are cowards and they buckled. I dont look at their lily livered web site anymore. There are others that still believe in freedom.

I doubt that will work here. At least for the immediate future. The Brits have been committing national suicide for years. That country has been developing a welfare state ever since we kicked them out. Another "dark web" will siphon off the ones who want to remain anonymous for political commentary. I can't foresee how it will form but we have bots now that look for certain words and phrases that indicate who the bad actors are who are planning violence. That could be expanded to include even criticism of the all-powerful state. After all these years, maybe the South was right in trying to leave. The Union could not allow that and the result was 600,000 dead, an assassinated President, and a devastated, burned out South that took years to recover.

Ross Douthat: Mamdani Is at the Top of
the Cyclone But It's All Downhill From Here

The Cyclone is the name of the iconic wooden roller coaster in Coney Island that has been there for almost 100 years. Like all roller-coasters, it lifts riders to a steep point and then lets them drop just as steeply and race around the track for a few moments of excitement. Today, Ross Douthat argues that Zohran Mamdani has probably peaked, like a rider of the Cyclone it's probably all downhill from here. It’s official: Zohran Mamdani has been elected mayor of New York City, raising the flag of the far left over Gotham. And if you believe the hype or the fears of his critics, then the 34-year-old Ugandan-born Muslim
CA GOP sues Newsom over Prop. 50, claims

The California Republican Party filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday challenging the state’s new congressional district maps, alleging Democrats illegally used race as the primary factor in redrawing boundaries to favor Latino voters. The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, seeks to invalidate Proposition 50, which voters approved on Tuesday to implement legislature-drawn maps for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections. The lawsuit names both officials in their official capacities as defendants responsible for implementing the challenged maps.
Supreme Court justices appear skeptical

Supreme Court justices on Wednesday morning expressed skepticism about the legality of aggressive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump against most of the world's nations. Conservative and liberal justices sharply questioned Solicitor General D. John Sauer on the Trump administration's method for enacting the tariffs, which critics say infringes on the power of Congress to tax. Lower federal courts have ruled that Trump lacked the legal authority he cited under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose the so-called reciprocal tariffs on imports from many U.S. trading partners, and fentanyl tariffs on products from Canada, China and Mexico.

Pedestrians and a cyclist were deliberately run down by a motorist said by police to have cried well-worn war cry “Allahu Akhbar”, with a sovereigntist political activist of the National Rally among those now in critical condition. What observers have called an “Islamist” or “Jihadist” attack, the kind long known in French cities, has struck ‘La France Profonde’, or deep France, with at least ten injured by a man driving a car into members of the public on a picturesque island best known for its fishing community and slow pace of life. 10 people were injured on Wednesday morning on the Île d’Oléron

Voters in Texas seemed poised on Tuesday night to approve a series of tax exemptions and bans as well as new investments in state infrastructure and research. All 17 constitutional amendments on the ballot held majority support Tuesday night, most of which restrict the creation of certain taxes or allow for new tax exemptions. Other amendments would create state investments in water infrastructure, dementia research and technical college funds. Proposition 10 received the largest share of voter support Tuesday night. The amendment would temporarily lower homeowners’ property taxes if their homes are destroyed by fires.
Schumer Shutdown: Dems Readying the Towel? 5 replies

Will Democrats choose tonight to cave on the Schumer Shutdown? Have they already chosen to cave? Earlier today, Senate Democrats again blocked the clean continuing resolution from coming to the floor for the 14th time in the last five weeks, with no movement toward ending the filibuster that has kept the government mainly shuttered since funding ran out on October 1st. However, something is afoot this afternoon among Chuck Schumer's caucus, even after Trump's refusal to budge on SNAP: Whatever could that mean? Schumer has spent the last five weeks insisting that there were no other options. So, for that matter, have John Thune and Donald Trump.

Embattled Democrat Jay Jones, who spent recent weeks embroiled in a scandal surrounding violent text messages he sent in 2022, won Virginia’s off-year attorney general contest on Tuesday evening against GOP incumbent Jason Miyares. Jones’s victory was a major defeat for Republicans, who spent millions in advertising in the final stretch of the campaign to boost Miyares. Jones was leading 53 percent to Miyares’s 47 percent with 90 percent of ballots cast when the Associated Press called the race. Jones was helped across the finish line by Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger, who soundly defeated Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears

Californians have voted to approve Proposition 50, a redistricting proposal that would add as many as five Democrat-held seats in Congress. Governor Gavin Newsom said the measure would allow the blue state to fight back against President Trump’s agenda and “efforts to undermine the democratic process.” Newsom proposed the redistricting plan in response to redistricting efforts in Texas that favor Republicans. Lone Star State Republicans revised their maps mid-decade, redrawing lines in such a way that Republicans could gain five seats during next year’s midterms.

Zohran Mamdani stunned the country with his win in the New York City mayoral race Tuesday night, defeating former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wasted no time mourning the election results. “Join me for a moment of silence for NYC,” Abbott wrote on X, just minutes after the race was called. He also offered “thoughts and prayers” with an emoji depicting hands in prayer. Mamdani is the city’s first Muslim and first South Asian to be elected mayor, and he will be the youngest mayor of New York City in more than a century when he takes office on Jan. 1.

Far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani has won New York City’s mayoral race — winning a mandate to move to enact his budget-busting, socialist agenda, according to preliminary projections. The Associated Press called the race for Mamdani, 34, about 40 minutes after polls closed, and with at least a few hundred thousand votes still to be counted. Mamdani carried 50.4% of votes to Andrew Cuomo’s 41.3% at around 9:40 p.m. The projection — which came with 75% of votes counted — also found GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa with rock-bottom 7.5%. The Uganda-born Mamdani will be the Big Apple’s first Muslim and first socialist mayor, as well as one of the youngest.

Former first lady Michelle Obama joined Stephen Colbert Tuesday night and delivered a depressing diatribe about the President Donald Trump-led White House ballroom construction, calling herself “confused” and “lost” as “standards and norms” are being broken. “The West Wing was work. It was sometimes sadness, problems, it was the guts of the White House and the East Wing was where you felt light. That’s where children came. We had puppies,” Obama began. “It makes me confused. I am confused by what are our norms, what are our standards, what are our traditions. I just feel like, what is important to us as a nation anymore? Because I’m lost.”

Lefty luminary Van Jones was among those raising alarm at Democratic socialist mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s rage-filled victory speech, noting his instant “character switch” at winning power. A roaring Mamdani wasted no time in claiming a mandate for his potentially budget-busting progressive agenda and taunting President Trump as he rallied his fired-up supporters soon after winning Tuesday night. Jones was quick to note live on CNN that the 34-year-old’s triumphant demeanor was a far cry from the cool, calm and collected candidate seen on the campaign trail. “I think he missed an opportunity.

New Yorkers elected their first socialist mayor Tuesday, handing far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani an historic victory — as he claimed a mandate for his potentially budget-busting progressive agenda and all but declared war on President Trump. The Associated Press and NY1 called the race for the 34-year-old Mamdani about 40 minutes after polls closed at 9 p.m., inspiring cheers from his supporters at his campaign’s Brooklyn watch party. “New York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change, a mandate for a new kind of politics, a mandate for a city that we can afford and a mandate for a government that delivers exactly that,”

Are you sure about that? Are you sure about that? The Wall Street Journal reports this morning on the aftermath of the Big Apple fight over socialism, where capital lost. Zohran Mamdani won easily last night, winning an outright majority of ballots cast by New York City voters, 50.6% as of this morning with 87% of precincts reporting. Andrew Cuomo got 41.7%, while Curtis Sliwa -- the only rational candidate still left on the ballot -- received 7.1% of the vote. New York City elected a communist to be its next mayor on Tuesday. Uganda-born Zohran Mamdani is projected to win more than 50 percent of the Big Apple. Over the next few days, professional Republicans will shake their heads and lament the outcome of the race. But few, if any, will acknowledge the truth: Mamdani’s victory is the direct result of mass immigration. New York City wasn’t lost to a communist because the radical left out-organized the Democrat establishment. New York City was lost to a communist because we lost control of our borders — not just our southern border, but every single border separating the United States from the rest

Lower federal courts have ruled that Trump lacked the legal authority he cited under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose the so-called reciprocal tariffs on imports from many U.S. trading partners, and fentanyl tariffs on products from Canada, China and Mexico.

Democrats dominated the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. And while a debate about the future of the Democratic Party may have only just begun, there are signs that the economy — specifically, Trump’s inability to deliver the economic turnaround he promised last fall — may be a real problem for Trump’s GOP heading into next year’s higher-stakes midterm elections. Democrats on Tuesday won governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey, the only states electing new chief executives this year. They also swept a trio of state Supreme Court contests in swing-state Pennsylvania and ballots measures from Colorado to Maine.
