Are you sure about that?
Are you sure about that?
The Wall Street Journal reports this morning on the aftermath of the Big Apple fight over socialism, where capital lost. Zohran Mamdani won easily last night, winning an outright majority of ballots cast by New York City voters, 50.6% as of this morning with 87% of precincts reporting. Andrew Cuomo got 41.7%, while Curtis Sliwa -- the only rational candidate still left on the ballot -- received 7.1% of the vote.
New York City has chosen socialism, and the WSJ suggests that capitalists will just have to suck it up. But is that their only option?
Wall Street heavyweights failed to stop

Huh. The NYCers took a bloody nose and lost 3,000 people on 9/11 by a bunch of muslims and now reward another one as mayor who comes from the dim party of murder and who expects Wall Street to now kiss his ring. How does this work, NYCers.

New York City is going to collapse -totally. All tye money will move to Dallas.
Someone should start spreading the word to everyone who leaves New York because “things just got so TERRIBLE!”: you’re not missionaries, folks - you’re REFUGEES….

With the exception of its mostly pro-business editorial page, the WSJ is as left-wing as the NYT, and always has been. I have over fifty years' experience with the Journal. Their reporters come from the same basic source. No difference.

Sure, one of the primary engines of capitalism will work with a socialist, completely ignoring the fact that socialism has never succeeded. Must be something in the water in NY.

I remember when Republicans were encouraged to work with Obama. How did that work out???? Ditto for Biden. Why is it always Republicans who must "work with" Democrats?

The labeling has changed, but at least they’re admitting to be socialists now. However the process hasn’t changed. Democrats propose leftist/socialist policies, Establishment Republicans “work with them”, start negotiations from the midpoint, and the compromise is always left of center, thereby resetting the midpoint further left for the next round. Jews, any other reasonably sane productive person and profitable businesses (this likely excludes WSJ) should leave now. But if you’re a democrat who is leaving, please move to another blue state. Those of us living in red states don’t want your politics here (despite my screen name thankfully I no longer live in CA).

Dallas? Texas? No!!!
The migration of Rust Belt yankees began the destruction of my beloved State in the late 70s and has steadily worsened. The politicians love the growth of the tax base without regard to the average citizens' standard of living. The only time I venture into Dallas is for jury duty or to decorrate family graves. The friendly Texas atmosphere is being destroyed by angry ountsiders.
NO MORE furiners!!!

I wonder what the WSJ will do when so much of Wall Street leaves for Dallas or even some other city. A physical presence for a lot corporations will no longer be needed. Ask Sears about Amazon. Oh, wait. Sears is no longer with us. We will still need local jobs for now, hands on businesses. Plumbers, electricians, certain local shops and mechanics to fix our cars and other careers that require human work and intervention.
There will be some good things along with the bad. Mining will be automated and other dangerous human jobs will be done remotely but some simply can't be done without humans.
This is, of course, will be well into the future and none of us will be around to see it.

Is the WSJ in effect telling Trump and the wimpy congressional Republicans to “cave” to the leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrats again?

I feel bad for #10 and all the residents of good states who are being ruined by refugees from communist states but who maintain the same voting patterns. My beloved New Mexico got ruined in the same way by escaped Californians from the 1990s on. Problem is, they didnt see themselves as refugees, they saw themselves as missionaries.
Now I have moved to the back woods of Appalachia where it is relatively safe for now. Still, panic sets in when I see New York plates and I wonder who is going to get mugged. Hopefully they're just lost and will soon be aggressive and rude somewhere else.

I wish someone would ask Mamdani: How could Lenin be SO wrong when he said "The goal of socialism is communism". Is that really true? And as a declared socialist, is that your goal too?

I got a new theme song for New York. You can retire Sinatra's classic and bring back Billy Joel's hit, Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway). He just missed the mark by 48 years or so.

Wall Street long ago changed from embracing Capitalism and economic growth to embracing 'Crony Crapitalism', where making friends with Big Government Leftists who are willing to give you taxpayer money and printing Fiat Money to give to you is easier and more profitable than actually building or expanding productive businesses.
But get this straight, Wall Street: Mamdani HATES you and intends to destroy you, even if you do kowtow to him.

By the way, Texas voters passed several state constitutional propositions yesterday which make the state more attractive to investors.
#2 - No capital gains tax
#6 - No occupations or security taxes (ie, a tax on a transfer of stock, etc.)
#7 - No estate tax
#13 - School district property tax relief on a homestead (your home) up to $140,000
#11 - School district property tax relief for seniors or disabled for an additonal amount (another $60,000; so if you're over 65 or disabled the first $200,000 of your homestead is free from property taxes).
Oh yeah, and we don't have a state income tax. Yeah, the sales tax (lots of exemptions; food and OTC meds, services) i is as high as 8.75% and some folks moan about property taxes, but unless you're pulling oil out of the ground, that's about it.

Mamdani is wealthy, but his assets are probably outside the USA. Too bad, he could share some of that wealth with the oppressed. But, he's really the oppressor, isn't he?

Confirming that the oligarchs are socialists. They can hire squadrons of attorneys, accountants and advisors to navigate the labyrinthine channels of the US Tax Code. The WSJ is their newspaper - it's not for the middle class who pay for socialism.

It would be very easy for all those stick companies and banks to relocate. All the work now is done on computers that can be anywhere. NYC just committed suicide.

A big NO. Most people in the country survived and lived quite well by refusing to work with Barack Obama, who is an older version of Mamdani. His signature Obamacare is a huge failure as was Climate Change and everything else he tried to impose on all Americans yet here we are and he has been reduced to a little squeaky voice in the corner. Mamdani will bury himself in his own nonsense before his first year is up.

Whether Mamdani won or lost, the WSJ was probably going nowhere. Why should it? It's just a collection of self-proclaimed intellectuals posing as journalists. Those are everywhere, and are a dime a dozen. The people who actually *run* Wall Street moved all of the transaction processing data centers to NJ and CT over a decade ago. These days, the NYSE and NASDAQ presence in Manhattan is simply for marketing and publicity; it's nothing more than an on-going homage to tradition. It's really a thin veneer of the entire exchange operations. And what's there can be easily relocated *anywhere* in the country.
