Californians have voted to approve Proposition 50, a redistricting proposal that would add as many as five Democrat-held seats in Congress. Governor Gavin Newsom said the measure would allow the blue state to fight back against President Trump’s agenda and “efforts to undermine the democratic process.” Newsom proposed the redistricting plan in response to redistricting efforts in Texas that favor Republicans. Lone Star State Republicans revised their maps mid-decade, redrawing lines in such a way that Republicans could gain five seats during next year’s midterms.

The California Republican Party filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday challenging the state’s new congressional district maps, alleging Democrats illegally used race as the primary factor in redrawing boundaries to favor Latino voters.
The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, seeks to invalidate Proposition 50, which voters approved on Tuesday to implement legislature-drawn maps for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections. The lawsuit names both officials in their official capacities as defendants responsible for implementing the challenged maps.

Zohran Mamdani stunned the country with his win in the New York City mayoral race Tuesday night, defeating former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wasted no time mourning the election results. “Join me for a moment of silence for NYC,” Abbott wrote on X, just minutes after the race was called. He also offered “thoughts and prayers” with an emoji depicting hands in prayer. Mamdani is the city’s first Muslim and first South Asian to be elected mayor, and he will be the youngest mayor of New York City in more than a century when he takes office on Jan. 1.

A UPS plane crashed near Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport in a fiery wreck Tuesday evening, officials confirmed as a plume of smoke could be seen for miles.

The Wall Street Journal reports this morning on the aftermath of the Big Apple fight over socialism, where capital lost. Zohran Mamdani won easily last night, winning an outright majority of ballots cast by New York City voters, 50.6% as of this morning with 87% of precincts reporting. Andrew Cuomo got 41.7%, while Curtis Sliwa -- the only rational candidate still left on the ballot -- received 7.1% of the vote.
