The federal food stamp program will pay out partial benefits to millions of Americans despite running out of regular funding at the start of this month due to the ongoing government shutdown, the Trump administration confirmed in court documents Monday. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive about 50% of its normal benefit level throughout November, using a contingency fund set aside for natural disasters and other emergencies. The announcement by the White House follows a pair of Friday rulings by federal judges in Boston and Providence, RI

We were told it is illegal to use the contingency funds, without an underlying appropriation. Does the Trump administration intend to ignore that law, and follow a lower court judge's order?

To me this is BS. Everything I have read says that the contingency funds cannot be used for this. Just because leftist judges says the government has to use it doesn't make it legal nor right. Appears we have government by judicial fiat -- why have two other branches.

Since benefits are reduced, wouldn't now be a great time to introduce "only nutricious" food can be purchased with SNAP benefits? If people are so worried that SNAP beneficiaries are going to starve to death without food stamps or reduced benefits, shouldn't we make sure that what they do purchase with government suplied money (my/your money) is used to purchase healthy foods? A cart full of Doritos, potato chips, and Mountain Dew shouldn't be purchased by someone "starving".

It’s time for everyone to start telling the truth about “SNAP” (aka food stamps). It’s a gigantic scam. Most of the recipients are liars, criminals and thieves. I see them every time I go to Wal-Mart. They all have new clothes, lots of tattoos and $1000 cellphones. They drag their fat asses to the checkout line with carts full of soda pop (which they resell for cash) and prepackaged junk food full of sugar and carbs - no fresh vegetables or fruit - and candy and ice cream. They pass their EBT cards through the machine and waddle out to their late-model SUV’s and drive away. 59% of illegal aliens are on SNAP. 42% of Somalis in the U.S. are on SNAP. It’s time to defund and end this whole program.

First they purchase fatty foods and drinks with taxpayer money. Next they will demand Ozempic or other GLP 1s to be free on medicaid in response to their poor eating habits that the government (taxpayers) have allowed them to buy with our money and become obese by not restricting what foods they can buy. Win/Win for the grifting class.

It's not that I don't care about people; I don't have to prove I do by supporting efforts that take money out of my pocket by force. Since the government forces me to "do good," if I help the poor or anybody else, I should be able to request a tax refund for each act of kindness.

How come the poorest state in the union, Louisiana with a Republican governor and a republican legislature can fund food stamps out of state funds and wealthy blue states like Illinois can’t? It’s simple, the blue states want to make Trump look bad and that’s more important than feeding their own people. That being said the Republican governor and legislature is only funding it for the elderly, the disabled and children which is who the program was designed for.

They should announce that all SNAP customers should re-apply for their food program. This would be a good way to cut out the dead recipients, and hold SNAP card distributors accountable for everyone they sign up. Since it isn’t intended to feed dead or illegals, it would be a good way to whittle down the program and ensure that the program benefits those who actually deserve it. The judge puts the program into the hands of the executive department, the president becomes responsible for how it runs, no?

Will Democrats choose tonight to cave on the Schumer Shutdown? Have they already chosen to cave? Earlier today, Senate Democrats again blocked the clean continuing resolution from coming to the floor for the 14th time in the last five weeks, with no movement toward ending the filibuster that has kept the government mainly shuttered since funding ran out on October 1st. However, something is afoot this afternoon among Chuck Schumer's caucus, even after Trump's refusal to budge on SNAP: Whatever could that mean? Schumer has spent the last five weeks insisting that there were no other options. So, for that matter, have John Thune and Donald Trump.

Far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani has won New York City’s mayoral race — winning a mandate to move to enact his budget-busting, socialist agenda, according to preliminary projections. The Associated Press called the race for Mamdani, 34, about 40 minutes after polls closed, and with at least a few hundred thousand votes still to be counted. Mamdani carried 50.4% of votes to Andrew Cuomo’s 41.3% at around 9:40 p.m. The projection — which came with 75% of votes counted — also found GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa with rock-bottom 7.5%. The Uganda-born Mamdani will be the Big Apple’s first Muslim and first socialist mayor, as well as one of the youngest.
