Trump White House snubs ex-VP Dick Cheney,
offers no condolences on his death

The White House offered no public condolences Tuesday on the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney — saying flags were lowered to half-staff at the executive mansion because the law requires it. President Trump has repeatedly attacked Cheney, who died Monday at age 84, as a “warmonger” and sparred with his daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) who served as the top Republican on the House select committee that investigated Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Both Dick and Liz Cheney endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris in last year’s election, with the former VP saying Trump was the greatest threat to the country since its founding.

Trump is not the kind to forget past slights or what he considers attacks on himself or his family. It isn't politics it's personal Cheney and his daughter made it that way. I like that a lot more than some mealy mouthed hail great fellow just because he died and it's expected. Trump isn't some two faced clown who says good things about an enemy when one dies.

Slightly OT but there was a discussion this am on local talk radio about the latest interview of Michelle Obama and her whining about how she and Barack as the first black couple in the White House could not screw up, etc ad nauseum - more of the woe is me. And I was reminded how during the 2008 campaign for President when there was some nitpicking on Michelle (her college theses maybe, the New Yorker cover?) and good ol Laura Bush issued a statement telling the media to back off - leave Michelle alone. Hmmm And then I recall when the Trumps greeted the Obamas at the White House in January 2017, and Melania, as is tradition, brought a gift (Tiffany) to present to the soon-to-be ex First Lady Michelle and Michelle stood there like an idiot. And then later went on to say - what the heck was that? As if she forgot how she was welcomed by Laura Bush in 2008? And of course, not one comment from the Obamas or Bushes on the raid of Mar A Lago and the marching of Melania's personal items and Barron's room. So good riddance anyone associated with the Bushes,Cheneys, etc.

I had no idea that Dick Cheney had passed away yesterday. There was no mention of it in the "Notable Deaths" section of my local rag. The only notable death they reported was the passing of Diane Ladd. I would have thought they'd mention it since my paper has newly found love for Republicans who hate PDJT and would use Cheney's death as another opportunity to slam the President. Appears that Dick's not considered as notable...

Cheney, McCain, Romney and GW to a lesser extent. All were great disappointments. Trump made this clear to everyone. That's why I appreciate Trump. It's sad that he has offered no condolences but this is where we are and I can't blame him. He has still proven to be a better man than any of these guys.

#11 - No matter how gracious a Trump statement would be, he would probably be accused of gloating at Cheney's death, so he might as well say nothing. Why should he go through the motions of acknowledging the death of a man who called him a threat to the republic and wished him nothing but ill? Trump's silence speaks volumes. I doubt the Cheney family will or would be gracious towards Trump were the situations reversed. I fullly expect Liz and possibly GWB to spit out some vitriol about Trump during the service.

I loathe the Cheneys. They are vicious warmongering enemies who collaborated with the Bolsheviks against Trump. Dick Cheney halted the entire US military construction to divert funds to Gulf War I. Terminating in-progress construction projects cost the government almost the entire bid price, resulting in worthless partially completed projects, and the move garnered almost nothing to fund the endless Middle East meddling, which continued under Bush #2 and the calamitous waste of the Iraq war and the interminable Afghan debacle. In contrast, President Trump made quick work of destroying ISIS. Cheneys are loathsome, vile creatures. He bamboozled the Bushes, but he couldn't fool Trump. When Trump failed to deliver them another war, the Cheneys sought revenge with impeachments and Jan6 lies. Go to hell, Cheney.

A convicted killer who was sentenced to a decade behind bars for suffocating a Canadian tourist with sand was elected to the city council of a Maine city that inspired Stephen King’s “It.” Angela Walker was elected as a Bangor councilmember on Tuesday, over two decades after she pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges alongside her brother, Benjamin Humphrey, in the 2002 death of Derek Rogers, the Bangor Daily News reported. Walker, who’s not affiliated with a political party, was one of three councilmembers elected to serve a three-year term. Wang’s conviction marks another victory in federal efforts to combat intellectual property theft linked to China’s state-sponsored recruitment programs. Wang stole hundreds of files containing trade secrets from a $11.4 million military project on or around July 1, 2016. The stolen data included manufacturing technology for specialty optical fibers used in high-powered laser weapons. Democrats dominated the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. And while a debate about the future of the Democratic Party may have only just begun, there are signs that the economy — specifically, Trump’s inability to deliver the economic turnaround he promised last fall — may be a real problem for Trump’s GOP heading into next year’s higher-stakes midterm elections. Democrats on Tuesday won governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey, the only states electing new chief executives this year. They also swept a trio of state Supreme Court contests in swing-state Pennsylvania and ballots measures from Colorado to Maine.
