Canada Kicks Off Its Compensated Confiscation Campaign

Original Article

The Liberal government's compensated confiscation campaign aimed at removing the vast majority of semi-automatic firearms from the hands of legal gun owners has officially begun, with a pilot program in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia launching on Wednesday. The "buyback" effort is aimed at taking thousands of models of semi-automatic firearms away from their once-lawful owners, who risk criminal charges if they're caught in possession of their firearms once the government's amnesty period has expired. [snip] He said after the program ends and there are no more buybacks, police will know who still has banned guns, so he may as well comply now and get something for it.

They will not get much compliance in ALberta and Saskatchewan. The governments have said that there will be no confiscations there. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. They don't have any 2nd Amendment, but the western provinces are huge geographically, and produce a lot of the money flowing into Canada. Saskatchewan produces the wheat for food, and Alberta the oil and gas for power and transport. Together, about 15-17% of the total Canadian economy. It will be interesting to watch if they stop shipping food and fuel eastward.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is meeting in London to vote on new rules to cut “greenhouse gases” by imposing a first-ever global tax on shipping emissions. The meeting of the U.N. agency ends Friday and is expected to finalize a “Net-Zero Framework (NZF)” where commercial ships would pay for emissions over a set limit as defined by the IMO, while vessels that meet tougher standards could trade or bank so-called “surplus units.” The Trump administration unequivocally rejects the proposal and has threatened to retaliate if nations support it, setting the stage for a fight over the climate deal.
