CHICAGO — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker turned heads this week when his campaign disclosed he won $1.4 million gambling last year. Though the billionaire Democrat doesn’t frequent Las Vegas casinos as much as he once did, the windfall is a reminder of his high-stakes past. Pritzker has been a blackjack player for more than two decades, long before he entered public office. “He’s a whale in Vegas,” said a businessperson who’s known Pritzker for years and was granted anonymity to speak freely. “I was incredibly lucky,” Pritzker told reporters Thursday when asked about the big win. “You have to be

He has a gambling problem. You don’t just win consistently playing blackjack in Vegas, not any longer. So if he has a lucky night where he has to declare his winnings because they’re in the millions, I guarantee he’s lost 10s of millions in the process.

They went after Bill Bennett for this too. I'm no fan of Pritzie, I said then and I'll say it now, as long as its his money, he's entitled to spend it any way he likes, be it buying a fancy yacht, mountain home, a fancy car, a Bellagio diamond encrusted watch or gambling millions in Vegas..

Another dyed in the wool Democrat: During the 2018 campaign, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Pritzker had intentionally caused a mansion he had purchased next door to his home to become uninhabitable by removing its toilets. He then appealed his original property tax assessment[232] because the newly built property was uninhabitable; the Cook County assessor reduced the home's value from $6.25 million to about $1.1 million, which granted Pritzker an 83% property tax reduction, equal to about $230,000 per annum.[233] The Cook County inspector general accused Pritzker of a scheme to defraud the county.[234] Pritzker called the controversy a political attack and stressed that the county regulations had been followed, but paid the county treasurer $330,000 to reimburse the amount of the property tax reduction.[234] Federal authorities later opened an investigation into the matter.[235] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JB_Pritzker

Maybe the rules are different for "whales" (not the oceanic variety, but the Vegas variety, although in Pritzker's case, it's a tough call). but everytime I've set foot in a casino, there's usually a sign that says when you enter, you consent to having your picture/likeness/etc used at the casino's discretion for security, publicity, or advertising purposes. Plus every casino wants to highlight their winners. There's always a picture of Joe Paloozka from Podunk Farms, Kansas, who won $318,000 on the Wheel of Jeopardy Deal or No Deal slot machine. If I ran a casino, I'd call out the panoramic photographer to get that picture of Mr. J. B. Pritzker from Chicago, Ill. who won $1.4 million at the blackjack table so I could post it outside the card room. As someone once told me, those folks didn't build those big casinos for us to leave with more money than we came in. I know everytime I go to Vegas, I always go to see some friends that stayed behind. You know, the Lincolns, Hamiltons, Jacksons, Grants, and Franklins.

The National Education Association (NEA), which represents millions of U.S. educators, sent an email to its approximately 3 million members with a map omitting Israel and labeling the territory as “Palestine.” The email was described as a resource packet for teaching about indigenous peoples, but critics argue it was promoting not recognizing Israel.
